Is300 Bonnet Latch

Recommended Posts

Hi all, On sunday I opened up the bonnet to check the oil. Since I've owned the car I must have opened it maybe 4 times or so over the year.

As I went to clip the bonnet stay back into the clip it broke off :tsktsk:

Not smart ! So before I go and ring my local dealer for one does anyone know how much they are and does anyone have a second hand one to hand ?

Seems like one nut and it comes ayway from the underside of the bonnet so shouldn't be too taxing to replace !

Thanks in advance.

I had the same trouble on my 300SC and solved it by slackening the bolt, and fitting a short piece of wire coathanger under it (about 3" long) bent to a U shape to support the stay. It worked fine, as the wire is quite pliable. It's even galvanized so it didn't rust. Worked fine on my car for 6 months, till I sold it.

Don't know what a new one would have cost, but I couldn't be bothered looking for one!

Cheers,

IanB :D
