Exhaust Problem

Th exhaust on my Rx300 Series 1 is blowing. The exhaust system itself ie the pipes and the silencers all looks to be in reasonably good condition even though it is 6 years old now. The blow is occurring at a joint between the system and the catalytic convertor.

The joint consists of the to pipes with bracketted ends and there are bolts with springs that clamp the two parts together (sorry for lack of technical terms for some of these things!). The blowing is coming from between these two flat ends which are about 1/4 inch apart.

I presume that the point iof the springs are to allow this part of the system to flex.

Can anyone advise whether I need a need a new system or just a bit that perhaps fits between the two parts. I am told the system will be more than £1000 (less Gold discount).

If I can avoid £1k I would be very happy!

Exhaust sealer doesnt look to be a solution with the amount of movement at the joint (or am I wrong)

Don't know for sure but would have thought there'd be a gasket in the joint. If there is, and it's the gasket that's gone, then it shouldn't be too painful. Someone like Kwik Fit should be able to advise of you don't want to ask a main dealer...
