Self Levelling Headlamps

Headlamps have been pointing about 3 cars length in front when dipped (far too low) which means no more than about 30mph on a dark country lane.

The self levelling light is not lit and the lights move up and down when started so assumed the headlamps need manual adjustment for the correct height as there are quite a few posts on the US forums about this...

Dealer is telling me that there is a sensor on the back axle which has failed luckily still covered under warranty. Quite surprised really as I've only covered 18,000 miles. So... first component failure to date

Cheers

Paul

Update...

The sensor was changed under warranty about 14 months ago and just failed again, but out of warranty now.

Sometimes the lights just move up and down fast, but most of the time they just point down.

Going to see what Lexus have to say about this.

unfortunately the part in question is a small potentionometer that moves up and down with the vehicles n/s suspension on the front and rear. these can be easily checked by placing the car in front of a wall. turn the headlights on and open the boot, then apply some weight to the boot - this can be done by kneeling on the boot opening. by doing this the headlights should move down and back up as the weight is removed. in itself its very simple but it is open to the elements in its position thus water ingress is a common fault for these to fail.
