Has anyone here tried to convert there car to run on ethanol or methanol? There seems to be lots of kits around but I don't know anyone who has tried one.

I don't think anyone here has. However, ethanol is the fundamental component in 'biofuel', such as E85 which is available in a few places.

Have you got a cheap source of it, though? I don't think it's any cheaper, unlike LPG. Methanol is a deeply unpleasant chemical, extremely poisonous, and as anyone who's been to the drag races will testify, the exhaust fumes are pretty unpleasant too!!

If i had a station near me, I would have gone for it, upto 20% power increases, its basically race fuel (106Ron). theres a company near me that sells the kits quite reasonable for power increase £600ish i think. Just need to keep the fuel lines, filter and injectors clean.

I thought this would be the future (since 1993) being green, infinite and fast (opposite of lpg), however heard somewhere a tankful on a Range rover can feed a family in for a whole year, which the current food shortages, I wouldnt feel happy driving my baby.
