Hi Guys, Im new to the forum, so first and foremost hello to all!

Im hoping someone can point me in the right direction in to solving my problem...

I have a 1991 LS400. It has an erratic idling issue. When in drive the car idles at a little over 1k, which I know is too high, secondly when in Park or Neutral the revs move up and down constantly (to no more than 1600).

Any ideas on how I can cure this, or whats causing it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Could be

1. dirty throttle body

2. dirty MAF

3. plugs or leads

4. clogged injectors

5. faulty coil (s)

6. etc etc etc

It’s very difficult to diagnose problems like this on a forum... if the car has done a few miles and not had the servicing kept up it could be almost anything, first thing I would do is clean the throttle body and MAF, try this site for how-to's

Thanks for the advise Pete, much appreciated.

I fully understand its hard to diagnose problems without seeing the car!

The car is a 91 LS400, 180k with no history apart from cambelt!

Not a good start I know, but I paid £300 for her, came with 12 months MOT and brand new 17" alloys and tyres. Figured the wheels and tyres were worth that if all went wrong!

Saying that the car drives without fault, smooth comfortable and powerful with no knocks or bangs!

Just want to fix the idling issue and she should be good for a runaround.
