Hi !

New Lexus GS430 owner. Model is the 2001 GS430 LS with Nav.

I have recently bought a Gs430 - enjoying the car hugely. I switched from a Mazda Mx3 and was active on the forums over there for the past 5 years ( although I rarely had to use them as the car was so reliable.=-)

I need to order some parts, and was wondering about the best places to source. I am new to this forum, so if this breaks any advertising rules feel free to PM me, or moderate the topic as you see fit.

1. I am showing a check engine light - I ran my OBDII reader on it, code P0135 which tells me the O2 sensor 1 bank 1 is faulty. Through forum posts I found the pre-cat O2 part on densoaftermarket for 70 pounds. Is this definately the one to go for or, or is there a preferred uk supplier ?. http://www.densoproducts.com/resultsSearch...Number=234-4138

I have been looking at the online workshop manual at http://bahamutcars.free.fr/workshop/GS_97-...ents/index.html but it still leaves me a little fuzzy about which one it is. Is it accessible without dissassembly of anything... or is there a photo of it anywhere ?

2. The spark plugs are due for renewal at 60k, I understand there are 8 iridum plugs to change, any good suppliers ? I understand lexus want an arm and a leg.

3. Aux Drive belt - its due replacement at 60k, looks like an easy job

I prefer OE spec independantly sourced parts, as oppposed to universal or pattern parts....but if they are "known good" I will compromise my standards.=-) .

Welcome to LOC :) Glad you're enjoying the car there!

Not sure if it's the same sort of the 430 by on mine I just picked up a universal Bosch o2 sensor which are supposed to be very good and then soldered it up to the existing wires.

The genuine details are here:

http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_2001_LEXU...2.html?hl=89465

Just had a look in the EPC for the spark plugs (good website at www.toyodiy.com/parts) and it shows the following:

19100P PLUG, SPARK

90919‑01210 3UZFE..UZS161; SK20R11 8 € 11.70

90919‑01211 3UZFE..UZS161; IFR6A11 8 € 12.51

I buy mine from http://www.sparkplugs.co.uk/ although sometimes you may see them cheaper on eBay. That site is great though as you always get them really quickly.

They only sell the SK20R11 though which is £8.35 + VAT

As for the aux drive belt, I just bought mine recently from Toyota and then got a different garage to fit it - the details for yours are here:

http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_2001_LEXU....html?hl=16361A

Oh actually did you mean the aux belt or the cambelt?

All the timing belt details are here:

Welcome to LOC. I'm not sure which belt you are referring to really.

Just had my main belt changed as it was worn but then found there was a tech bulletin of some sort on the tensioning bit. Cambelts are 100k/10yrs on GS 430, although if not under warranty I would be changing earlier. I'm sure you will enjoy owning & driving it.

Thanks for the detailed responses guys. Aido you have the Aristo twin turbo car ? I had looked at some of those but could not find one in a condtion that satisfied me over 4 months of looking =-( Yours looks loovely though. I suppose you have seen all the vertex videos of an Aristo chasing various things around a track.

I saw a forum post that complained that a universal one gave an error code on the 430 as the heater had a 4ohm not a 12 ohm resistance....don't know if anyone else has tried it, but it would save me a lot of money using a bosh filter, the Denso one from the US is 100 quid once you add shipping..... !

I am refering to the visible drive belt at the front of the engine, that runs ( I think ) the steering and aircon etc.

I know what you mean, it's a lot easier to get a nice GS than a nice Aristo, problem is these things need the turbos replacing and stuff like that over time so costwise they start to shoot up, mine's cost a fortune this last couple of months as I bought loads of bits for a major service, get it back tomorrow actually!

I'd nearly bought a 430 before this, took one for a test drive in the really dark green colour, it was lovely!

When this one came up I couldn't resist, I absolutely love it!

That drive belt is just the aux one on that list then here:

http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_2001_LEXU....html?hl=16361A

The problem is that site doesn't tll you which bits are superceded so if you call Lexus or Toyota and ask for parts, give them your chassis number they'll get you the right one :)

As for the o2 sensor, I'm not sure if this would work:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=200137656589

It seems much cheaper and is a Denso one? I honestly don't know how they differ on the UK cars though, mine is easy as it only has the one, the Japanese imports have some advantages :D

Yeah I've seen a few vids, I love them, I actually got a DVD with it in, it's quite funny actually as they're racing around a track in the wet and it's keeping up with the M5, but some of the smaller cars just disappear into the distance as the M5 and Aristo both have the stability controls going mental and at that point they'd not figured out how to turn it off!

It's a strange car though as in stock form I guess it's very similar to the 430, it's not until they actually modify it that it shows it's real colours, these things are insane at times - I've got to be careful when I get mine back as it's not run at full boost for a while as it had a dodgy coilpack and so I'm going to have to relearn it all again!

..:: Edit ::..

Oh actually that eBay one there is no good as it says it's for the rear :(

the best place to get the correct parts for your car if from a dealer

Well....there is some merit to that statement....but a good owners club can save you a packet on getting the right parts at the right prices. And Lexus, well they seem to put a "Lexus owner Tax" on parts that is unresonable in my eyes.

Same part from Lexus was 196 pounds. Toyota wanted 176 pounds. Denso US is 100 pounds ( 70 pounds + shipping )

I have sourced a facet OE Replacement for £ 53 from camberly auto factors today.
