Dashboard Warning Lights Flashing

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I got a problem with my car, just now, I started my car and after about 3 mins of driving, the “engine light”, the “door open” light and the “snow” flash on my dash board, occasionally the TRC and ABS flash too, but the car seems to be fine, I drove the car for 15 miles, at the end of the journey I turn the car off, gave it about 20 secs turn the key to start the car and I still got the flashing lights, but if I leave the car of for about 20 mins or more the re are no flashing lights intill about 3 mins into the drive.

Apart from the flashing warning lights mentioned, the car seemed fine.

Any ideas what this could be?

I have not done anything to the car at all, service, new screen etc recently , the car has had a replacement screen (done by the pervious owner, was serviced last year in june, 5000 miles ago).

i have a 2001 (xreag) lexus is200, when i first bought the car, last year, the indicators sometime don't work, all i do i fiddle around the fuse box (drivers side footwell), move the wires/connectors and then they work from a few hours to a few months. Few months ago when it last rained heavy , i turned the car off and went inside...a few hours later i went to the car and hazards lights were flashing, everything was switch off, pressing the hazards button made no difference, unless i put the key in the ignition.

To get around this I have been taking out the indicator fuse every time I turn the car off.

but yesterday due to heavy rain, the indicators where flashing with and with out the ignition on. I then but the heaters on, and tried to dry the fuse box out, which it did after 30 min

also the sunroof has never worked when i press the button, i hear a click but no movement.

I need to replace/reseal the windscreen but I have not got windscreen cover on my insurance policy. My insurance is up for renewal next month so I am waiting for that and make sure I get windscreen cover.

My headlights don’t stay on when the car is parked and locked only my indicators do. My autolights did not work from the day I bought it, and i now know why, the pervious owner bypassed the autolight sensor by wire that has been added to the indicator stalk, and it leads to the replay box under the bonnet and is soldered to the headlight relay

Hmm. It sounds like you've definitely got the classic electrical problems caused by water getting in through a leaky replacement windscreen. The lights on your dash may well be something to do with that.

Best bet it to connect up an OBDII reader as Asi suggested, and see if you've got any codes. If not then it's almost certainly an electrical glitch caused by water ingress. OBDII readers are cheap on eBay. Whereabuts in London/Berkshire are you ? There might be a member near you with a reader who can read the codes for you.

Just for everyone's info (e.g. someone finding this thread in the future because they've got similar problems), I plugged in my OBDII reader into faizy's car and indeed there were no codes.

There was water around the fuse box in the passenger's footwell, so this looks like a problem of water coming through a leaky windscreen. The windscreen looks extremely badly sealed at the bottom corner on the driver's side and I'm sure water's coming in through there.

Further to add to this, as faizy said, the previous owner seems to have bypassed the auto lights sensor (something else that often goes wrong with water ingress) with a wire into the engine bay fuse box, adding to the suspicion of electrical problems !

So as faizy said, he really needs to get the windscreen replaced/sealed properly, and then see if there are ongoing electrical problems then sort them out.

Thanks steviewevie, I really appreciate you coming over and checking my codes and I hope to return the favour one day.

The First thing I need to do is temporary seal my windscreen until I renew my insurance next month and get a replacement screen through them.
