2005 Gs300 Se-l - Huge Estimate For Repairs....

Recommended Posts

My wife wrote to Lexus UK. A telephone message from Lexus was left today, expressing regrets but no offer.

She will write again and if no joy then I will encourage her to take it up with Watchdog or Honest John or both.

Personally I think it stinks that Lexus issued a TSIB for cars with the same engine, having the exact same fault, in other countries but don't do the same here.

From TSIB EG007-07 noted in previous posts, it says they have to replace 2 oxygen sensors with ones of a different design, making a modified EMU necessary.

This is exactly the remedy suggested by her dealer, so it is obviously a known design fault. Goodness knows how many people have spent money on new sensors only to have the same fault reappear later.

Also note the following Quote from TSIB EG007-07:-

Applicable Warranty**:

This repair is covered under the Lexus Emissions Warranty. This warranty is in effect

for 96 months or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.

** Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer’s specific complaint

I honestly don't know why Lexus GB didn't offer you any help. I rang them and the same day they rang my dealer with an offer of 50% towards the cost. This is not good of Lexus GB, how can one person with exactly the same problem be offered help and another not.

I would ring them and implore that they offer help as further action maybe taken. I feel sorry for you as I know how I felt with being faced with a 3K bill.

The TSIB starts with 'under certain driving conditions'.

Anyone know what those driving conditions are and how to prevent this happening ?

Has anyone heard what the causes are, and more importantly how to avoid the failure ?

Could it be fuel type, hard driving, (gentle driving !) ?

I'm running scared now ! :crying:

It seems to be a random electronic fault. It doesn't seem to make a difference as to how you drive or mileage just the age of car, Mk3 GS 2006 and below. Lexus knows of the fragile ECU's and replaced them from 2006 so these should be replaced on all cars affected free of charge.

Don't be scared, buy a warranty to cover all components, ECU, O2 sensors etc. Try Warranty Direct for a quote.

It's some time since my last post, holidays etc got in the way.

I'm happy to say that Lexus UK finally came through and paid the full cost of the work!

This is brilliant news! Now you've set a precedent hopefully those cars affected with this problem 'should' get the same help. ( Hopefully Tony!)
