New Flywheel?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I hope somebody with a bit more knowledge than me can recommend what action I should take. Recently the clutch went completely on my 2001 IS200 Sport. Up until the point of the clutch going completely, I was getting slipping and also a juddery pull away. As I understand it, the slipping was the clutch but the juddering was the flywheel. I use a local garage and he's fitted a new clutch, not an original Lexus one but apparently a reputable one from Japan. Since this has been done however, the juddering has continued but also, a continuous high pitch sound that sounds in time with the running of the engine occurs when the clutch is NOT engaged. Is this the flywheel causing this? And if so, where is the best place to get a replacement, apparently Lexus were quoting somewhere near a thousand pound.

If I didn't get the flywheel replaced and just used the stereo to drown out the sound, is it likely to fail completely at some point? The car has done just over 100,000 miles.

The sooner anyone can get back to me the better, the car's currently in the garage and the mechanic's waiting to hear what I want to do.

Thanks and appreciated,

Duncan

Having spoken to TDI and Co-Ord Sport, it seems the lightened flywheel is recommended and would work best. The only problem is that neither had one in stock so whereas the garage had my car in pieces ready to fit one, I'm now going to have to ask them to put it back together and wait.
