RX300 Engine Sludge - Anyone Know anything???

Recommended Posts

There have been some posts in alt.autos.lexus about engine/oil sludge in the 3.0 V6 VVti engine in the RX300. All posters have been US based, where (apparently) Lexus have suggested oil changes every 5k miles!! I have no problems with my RX, and have followed the 10K service intervals. Anyone know anything about this, or is the US engine a different spec?

In the Us cars are serviced more regularly due to the adverse weather conditions they have over there. When i goto Florida I help my friend with his car hire company and have to take cars in for their 3k Oil change... so I would stick to the 10k oil changes as directed .. personally for the sake of £20 for oil and £10 for the garage to change it i think it is worth every penny and keeps the engine in good condition if done every 6k - 9k

I would take the sludging with a pinch of salt.. apparently this is supposed to happen on the ES300 but mine is clean as a whistle on 100k miles.
