Isf Gearbox

Recommended Posts

I have just purchased a new IS-F.

The gearbox appears to have a delay in moving up the gears. I have checked that the sport mode is NOT selected, however considering the amount of torque, the vehicle is very slow in reaching 8th gear unless I drive the car hard. Is this a characteristic of the box, or does the vehicle require attention ?

I find mine is keen to move quickly through the gears and into 8th, keeping the revs low. This actually makes the car in auto very much a luxury saloon (rather than a v8 animal!), and keeps the mpg high.

Driven gently in traffic in ordinary auto, mine reaches 8th gear at about 43 mph. In a flat car park will shift up to 3rd gear at tickover. The harder you drive it, the later the gear change. This seems to be how the good economy is achieved for the engine size. In sport, gear changes seem more optimised for performance as well as having slicker throttle response & taughtened suspension. As you describe it, yours doesn't seem quite right?

I would say it certainly does require attention!

One of the characteristics that took me a while to get used to is how quickly it whips through the changes under light throttle so unless they've made some dramatic changes to the 2010 model your new beast is mis-behaving (and using a load of fuel to boot!)

Mine seems to hold on to 3rd longer than 1st and 2nd for some reson (2,100 rpm-ish vs. 1,600 rpm-ish), then just skips through the rest of the box smoothly. 8th comes into play around 43mph as per previous member contribution. This seems to be similar in normal and sport, unless you're giving it a poke then it holds on to the gears nicely as expected :winky:
