I guess you mean the gasket between "after the CAT" and flange for the start of the "Y section" part of the exhaust.

Get inderneath and have a good look. I suspect that the nuts for this joint are seized and rusted beyond use.

Mine were, so I sealed the gap with some exhaust paste and with 2 jubilee clips together, I put them around the joint to squeeze in and hold all the paste in place. This lasted for over a year, fo2 2 MOTs and was a quick cheap fix.

I know that others have has this joint welded up with success too.

im looking for th fiber gasket /washer things that fit in the front joint on my 96 LS400 as my exhaust flange is blowing on that joint

Three years ago, I had one of these fail on my '96. It costs £4.50 if I remember. If you are doing the job yourself, why not get one from the Main Agent? The whole job cost me about £50 - less than a tank of fuel, even then.

Hi,

That's a long way away to source a couple of exhaust gaskets - I have just bought a pair from Lexuspartsdirect.co.uk (Lexus Swindon) at £ 3.33 each, including postage.

They are easy to fit once you get the old bolts out. Mine were so corroded that I had to drill all of them out.

Regards

Alan

Lexus main dealer quoted over £1600 for this job so I looked around before I let them on it. Then whilst I was having my tracking adjusted (darned potholes) and it was on the ramp the local exhaust centre asked me if I knew I had a leak (it was obvious considering the baubling noise) and did I want them to fix it. I had both sides fixed and they charged £20.00.

It is now quieter than I ever remember it being. :o)

Good result. My main dealer quoted me over £900 for suspension work, but the car has passed three MOTs since without any mention of such work. Hmmm...
