Hi

I've a few very minor electrical niggles on my car that don't bother me very much but should more occur I wondered how big a job it is to rectify such problems.

One of the height adjust switches on my seat appears inoperative and

the seat memory appears not to be working.

Are these likely to be relatively simple to fix or should I just forget it( ie. is it a huge expensive job?)

Sorry, was that like asking how long is a piece of string?

Ed

Oh, and the heated seats don't seem to work. I still love it though. :D

Hi Ed

Maybe others missed your original post as did I.

What year/MK is your car? Mileage.

The front seat heating elements are most likely the cause of the lack of heat. They are a bit like an electric blanket and break with being constantly sat upon. They can be replaced. Its a bit of a faff as you have to remove the squab cover and refit it. I havent bothered with mine. Do the warning lights on the switches work? If not it could be the fuse.

Im less sure about the memory aspect. You certainly have to follow the procedure in the handbook exactly. From memory (pun intended) open the car and sit in the seat. Turn on the ignition but dont start the car. Adjust the seat, steering and door mirrors as required. Press the memory (1 or 2) and the Set buttons at the same time until you hear the beep. Turn off the ignition, remove the key and exit, closing the door. To test, open up and move everything out of postion. Exit the car and close the door. Open up and press the relevant memory button. It should now return everything to the memorized positions. If the mirrors return but the seat settings do not, the fault lies in the seat.

I hope these thoughts are of help.

Hi Steve

Thank you very much for your response. I don't think I followed the seat memory proceedure exactly as you described so I'll try that.

The lights do come on, on the heated seat buttons

and it's a 87,000mile '96 model (a Mk 3 I think).

Thanks once again

ED

Hi again

Mine's a 96 MKIII so identical. I feel sure you can assume that the elements are broken.
