Engine Fault

hey guys

engine started running real bad. luckliy i have a scanner so plugged it in and it reads

PO 300 random cyc misfire

PO 301 cyclinder misfire

PO 302 cyclinder misfire

PO 304 cyclinder misfire

i just swapped the coils about put 2 to 3 and 4 to 5 and the same error codes came up whats the story

your help will be much appreciated

hi yes reset the codes and had the plugs replacded too.........

now i have the coils changed it did 60 miles with no probs even cleariin the i/m

then started to spluter again

i have cleared them a couple times over ten miles po300 was the most that came up complaining but 301/ 302/304

also po174 came up

really annoyed now cause i did what it asked me to do and still is broke

could the plugs be faulty????

what spacing is supposed to be on the plugs????

hiya mate - just looked up P0174 HERE and it says system too lean !!! not sure what would cause that fault code but i would not put too many miles on it until you get it sorted as too lean a mixture can do serious damage i think

im not sure tbh as i thought they mostly come "gapped" these days - what make and type plug did you fit ?

im not a mechanic but i would guess that the "lean" fault could trigger the misfire codes ie trace and fix the PO174 code and the others may clear up when the fuelling issues are resolved - as i say its only a guess though

hmm - i cant see three coil packs failing again - those codes indicate a misfire on those cylinders but im not sure they indicate a coilpack failure nessacarily - sorry mate id only be guessing so ill shut up or i will probably get you more confused-hopefully ormi or stav or one of the knowledgeable ones will chip in soon with some usable advice - id defo be looking at the po174 issue on the left bank though as the left bank would be three cylinders which im guessing are the three fault codes you keep getting -sorry i cant be more help,good luck

you never know - over here there seems to be good and bad main dealers,some charge some dont - ask the service manager on the phone what code po174 suggests could be wrong - he might be able to tell you

did you check the plugs??if you've replaced them what ones did you use??they need to be irridium..
