Key Locked In Ignition

when my wife got home last night she could not get the key out of the ignition. it is stuck on acc. it will not go to lock or go to start it. the radio come s on still. i unplugged the Battery. i barely could get the key out . what do i have to do to get the cylinder out. is it possible to do it at home and replace it with another one?

without sounding patronising, have u given it a jiggle or tried pushing it in a bit before turning?

Hi and welcome to the LOC albeit under dire circumstances.

As Rory suggests try gently rocking the steering wheel side to side whilst jiggling the key.

Another possibility is if the car is automatic, is it in park as my LS won't allow the key to come out unless it is.

Last resort is a mobile auto locksmith.

surprised if the cylinder is broken. I would guess something more to do with the electronic lock as when the auto box is not in P.

I also would guess that changing the barrel would mean at least re-programming keys if not ECU.

As said try pushed the key in a bit before taking it out. Thats what I have to do with mine to release it

just bought a new cylinder with key. 120 bucks delivered from lexus. toyota 30 miles away said they will instal for 100 and program key for 60. a tow to toyota will probably be about 50 bucks. 300 plus bucks. yahoo

how hard is it to get the old cylinder out? i have a locksmith coming to my house tomorrow. he says he has to drill it out to get it out. 75 to replace cylinder, 75 to come to my house. cylinder cost me 120 delivered from lexus
