Newby Seeks Some Rx Advice On Multimedia Option

Recommended Posts

Happy New Year People.

I am looking to buy a used RX350 on a 07 or 57 plate. I was looking to get a vehicle with the Multimedia package option (DVD touchscreen sat nav / parking camera / Bluetooth and have a few questions that hopefully someone will be able to answer as I need to justify the premium price for this option.

1) What is the quality of the sat nav like and does it have full postcode search?

2) Is it possible to get updated Maps/ DVDs and how much are they?

3) Is the Iphone compatible with the Bluetooth phone system?

Many thanks

Hi, and welcome to the forum. Two of the three answers for you (based on my 08 '400h, but I'm sure someone will advise if there are any differences...):

1) I find the Satnav function very good (comparing to previous Audi system), keeps satellite lock perfectly and works well with the touch-screen. Definitely get a fresh sat-nav DVD as the update in especially if you have a recent DVD (2009 onwards), as prior to this the sat nav locked out a lot of functions (eg changing destination) when in motion - they removed this lockout in late 2008-ish and it transformed the system - many posts elsewhere on this. It's got postcode search but only up to the first digit in the inward part of the post-code - i.e. SW1A 1)

2) Yes - from Lexus dealer or www.lexus-mapupdates.eu, was 159 euros back in April 2009 when I last bought mine. For the website you need to know the version number of your current DVD (printed on the disc itself, there are threads on the forum about how to get the DVD out).

3) Don't know specifically on Iphone but search on the forum, there are several threads about different phone connections. My experience is that Bluetooth phones connect fine for making/receiving calls etc., but people have different degrees of success syncing up phone books - personally I didn't try (with Blackberry and Android phone), I just added the relevant handful of numbers in manually.

Cheers

Hello and welcome !

I have the same car as the one you are interested in, so will do my best to help you with your queeries -

1) The post '06 upgraded screen and nav system are great, imho. It doesn't have full post code search and only you will know if this will be a problem for you. Save for looking for commercial premises without numbers and sports facilities on long rural roads, I haven't found it to be a problem.

2) Yes you can - for about £140. Cheap Toyota Parts is one of the best places to get them. Alternatively, if you go for a Lexus Platinum Care package for future services, you will get 10% discount from the dealership.

3) I don't have an Iphone, but I have seen several posts on here commenting on varying degrees of success with paring and functionality. A Forum Search for Iphone should provide you with some useful information on this.

I hope that helps.

My Iphone works perfectly (almost) with my '05 RX400h.

I say almost, as it wont sync the phonebook as the Iphone uses a format than what the RX cant read.

This can easily be sorted by syncing the phonebook off another phone, so it is in the cars own phonebook, then when your Iphone pairs it will still show who is calling.

I also have another issue, but not sure if its just the Iphone or all phones, or even the cars problem itself...

When i call out i get no ringing tone via BT, but when the call connects the sound comes through then.

This means that the person you call may answer and say 'hello' a couple of times before you can hear them.

Never really been an issue, but they may hang up if they dont hear you the first time they say 'hello' and you dont answer back.

I have the original SatNav on mine and think its great. Would like the updated disc sometime soon though, but its the price of a dedicated Satnav device.
