Sanding Down Plastic

Im going to sand down a second hand front number plate holder i got for my altezza to either gloss black or colour coded to silver(same colour as car) what grade of grit sanding paper you think i need ? + that be same to sand down a sport grille i be gettting soon ? the grille is a red colour i got also second hand. cheers

Well I used a 320 grit when I did my grille and it came out a treat, it was a paper designed for wood use though, and I did use a Scotch pad for getting in the corners. Don't forget to use a plastic primer or you'll be doing it again before long!
