Removing Lcking Wheel Nut

Long story short decided to change my pads today on brakes, only to find that after I had got 3 very seized nuts off that the final nut was the locking wheel nut, no problem usually but after removing the plastic case on top of nut I saw that someone had obviously tried to get this off before and expanded all 3 key holes where the adaptor fits and chewed them al up. I have managed to chisel off the plastic sleeve surrounding the nut and Im about to order those self tapping nut removers from internet, can this tool be used with a normal ratchet or do I need a air powered gun type thing ?:)

Also am I right in thinking the tool I need is a 17mm adaptor?

You could try hammering a slightly undersized socket onto it. Impact sockets are best as they are much tougher (black coloured rather than the silver/chrome colour of standard ones).

Failing that, maybe one of the local tyre fitters could help, they may even have some spare nuts knocking about cheap to replace the removed locker temporarily. Nuts are M12x1.5, just make sure you get a tapered shoulder or flat seat dependent on the originals and/or wheels.

I used to have a set of those on mine, they do the job OK.

On the hunt for one of those sockets now, Im thinking 17mm is the size I need

Do you mean to fit the bolt key you just bought in the link? or to hammer onto the old ones to try and get them off?
