Paint/corrosion Warranty?

Recommended Posts

Cheers m8. Long story, but I am having to pay for front bumber re-spray becuase of a botch job before bought the car. (Toyota Aberdeen told me the car had never been in accident!!!!! liars!!). I took it to a leading local paint specialist and he told me that there had been damage done and that when whoever sprayed on the laquer hadn'y done it properly, that's why it was peeling!! Then he found corrosion under the drivers door, so, something has happened there too. The car is only 4 years old and has very low mileage. So, that other job doubles the price..... The guy doing it has a fantastic reputation, he does all the prestige cars (Lambo's, porsche, ferrar etc. So he really knows his stuff. I haven't the energy to argue with Arnold Clark Toyta in Aberdeen as there customer focus is awful. On top of that, the Lexus Aberdeen branch has now closed, so, the excellent service from there has now gone. I will write a letter to AC, and copy it to lexus UK, but, I don't hold out much hope...

If it's still the same I think it's 12 years - I just had some warranty bodywork done on my 9 year old IS200 so I can confirm the warranty actually works!

If the door is original and there's no damage then it should be covered - I had corrosion on my bonnet which despite there being several stone chips they agreed had originated from within and not from the exterior so was covered under warranty.

I'll get a full report from the paiont specialist. If it shows that the door/bumper are originals, then I'll make sure AC and Lexus UK know m8. I used to enjoy a challenge, but the last couple of years has knocked the fight out of me worse luck.

Thanks again "p".

It may not need much of a fight mate, mine was really straightforward. Don't even need to go back to where you bought it from, just go to a Lexus dealer/Lexus bodyshop that you trust and ask them to inspect it.

Once you use a third party Lexus will be less inclined to accept (unless you are talking about an approved bodyshop)

Hi P',

wish I had posted before giving the go-ahead to the paint specialist. I get the car back on Friday. Good news is, that because my son is friendly with the guy, I am getting the job done properly for at least half the normal quoted price, and I know know it won't just be another quicjk tidy up. Thanks so much for your help, support and advice.

Hi Guys,

just out of interest, the corosion has to be from within to be covered? I just noticed, albeit very small, what may have been a stone ship on the roof near the middle above the wind screen that looks like it is right through to the metal and has some rust discolouration, and the paint is cracked around it.

I only got the car 4 weeks ago, again like OP 4 years old, but having had a FTO I'm a bit paranoid about roof rust lol :)

Any suggestions? I don't want to leave even a small area that may leed to bigger problems later on that may be expensive to repair!

Cheers,

Barry

  • 5 weeks later...

Probably a good idea to get that sorted sooner rather than later but if it's originated from a stone chip I doubt it will be covered under warranty.

Always worth asking though :whistling:
