Rev Counter Not Working(My First Post)

Recommended Posts

Hey to everyone here at LOC.

This is my first post on this forum so im sorry in advance if i do something odd.

I have just purchased my first lexus, its a beautiful 2001 IS200.

On the test drive i noticed that the rev counter was not working, i thought nothing much of it and put down a deposit on the car, and im picking it up in 2 days.

I was just wondering how serious of an issue this is and if anyone else had encounterd it? if anyone has could you please tell me how to fix it?

Thanks

i guess there are a few ways to find out whats going on with in. first you can take it apart and check that the needle is not stuck, to you can check the feed wire to make sure there is some kind of feed, get it hooked up to a obd reader to see that there is no problems,

options are to buy a secound hand unit from eBay and swap them over or live with it.

Thanks for the replys. It was a private seller so all he did was drop the price a tiny amount.

im going to drive it back tomorrow, so i'll take it apart and have a look. btw if i change the cluster does it keep my mileage count or carry it over from the other car?

if you remove the cover to the gauge, 2 screws at the top you will see 3 screws holding it in place.

then you should be able to get behind and remove the wiring plugs, then the best thing is to remove the clear plastic glass from the unit and the check the needle is ok. plug the unit back in and check if it's working, pull the needle out just a little bit and check again. but before you replace the gauge you can check it with one known working unit if you know someone with another car. there are a few ways to keep your milage if it's just a broken needle
