Is it normal for my is220d to over rev when stationary? It does stop eventually but its seems to do it for a long time as if its taking a while to warm up. My local garage linked it up to there computor but it came up with no faults... Any one else have this issue????

Its the nature of the car. it will be at 12000 rpm. all the 220d's do it.

12000 rpm?

Excuse me for having fat fingers.... I think the poster would have known what i meant. Rather than pick at others try something a bit more constructive. Oh by the way if there is any grammar that is wrong i'm sure you will let me know.

This happens to mine too. It over revs to 1,200 rpm when the car is stationary. I took it to the dealer and they plugged it in, but no fault found. Their explanation was "Most IS 2.2d over rev depending on the temp of the catalytic converter". I have no idea if this is true but sounded plausible.

Not sure why the dealer did not know this. Once the car reaches optimal temprature the revs will go back to normal. If the revs are still up after 30 mins of running then this is not normal. But while the car is still warming up it will run at 1200 rpm.

Diesels take absolutely ages to warm up and for it to warm up on cold mornings especially in traffic it needs to keep the revs at a certain RPM. I guess this also makes the car run at lower emissions when its warm (not 100% sure on this)
