Strange Misfire

Hi all,

I have a strange misfiring problem with my 03' IS200 Sport.

I don't know much about cars but here goes:

My car seems to start misfiring only when its warm and the check engine light starts to flash.

Its had all new spark plugs and lexus have checked all my coil packs, checked the pressure in the cylinders(?) and in the petrol tank, it's all in working order. When they did the diagnostics on the car it stated a misfire on cylinders 2,3 and 6 but assumed because that a new coil pack had been placed on each cylinder in turn at my local garage it could be that.

They did notice my coolant level was critically low so topped it up for me, when they started the car after that there was no sign on misfire... but once the car seems to cool down the misfire does disappear.

They also said to me that because my coolant level was so low, the bottom half of my engine was cool but the top half was really hot, and that's what the problem was.

Drove it home last night to start my car up 10 mins after I got back and it was misfiring again.

Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? Its cost a lot of money so far to no avail.

Could it be anything to do with faulty injectors? The garages I've been to seem to think not.

Thanks for your help.

Scott.

Hi Scott.

It could be crankshaft position sensor or cam sensor, get yourself a good OBD2 code reader they only cost £50 Sealy do a good one it's a lot cheaper than going to the garage.

Plug it in to the data port under the dash and follow the instructions with the reader and you'll get the codes for the faults.

Good luck.
