Engine Squeel

Recommended Posts

Hello,

For a few months now I have noticed a very high pitched squeel coming from the front of the car (IS200 2001). It starts at about 40mph and continues up to about 60mph. Coming down in speed if continues until about 10mph. I only notice it with the window down. Immediate solution is wind the window up I know :)

There is no squeel if I rev stationary so I think that rules out the fan belt? I have checked the brakes so no issues with pads/stones I can see. The car is dealer serviced from new so it is well looked after.

Any ideas?

Hello Russell and welcome to the LOC.

Does it get worse with the AC on or with the headlights on as it could be a compreesor bearing or a heavy load on the alternator. Although serviced regularly is the drive belt in good condition?

It could also be a defective front wheel bearing although these tend to rumble when worn as opposed to squeal.

I know you have checked the brakes but caliper pins can partially seize so it may be worth having them checked also.

Hi Steve, many thanks for the welcome.

I rarely use the AC and it happens day or night so don't think that is it. I will certainly check the other bits though so something to go on at least.

Many thanks.
