Is200 Master Key

Recommended Posts

Hi all, i have just bought myself an 05 plate IS200 se. im really enjoying the car as it is quite a step up from previous cars owned.

i have only 1 small issue which im hoping other lexus owners might be able to assist me with.

When i purchased the car it had only 1 key with 3 buttons. I rang lexus and was quoted £180 (as seen by another user on this forum)

First of all i dont know if my key is a "master" how do you tell the difference??

Secondly i looked at the forums and used the blank key eBay method to which im now a proud owner of a spare blank key (which just needs to be cut and programmed)

I rang my local dealer who told me if the key was coded to another car (which it is) it cant be coded to your car simply by using the reprogramming method (wonder if thats a slight lie)

It would have to go on the diagnostics machine etc etc etc

Finally if i CAN reprogram the key to my car, what is the process and where would i find the said information??

I realise that this topic has been opened several times and i have looked at most of the open issues, they never quite answer everything im looking for!

Any help on this issue would be much appreciated

Oh one final thing.. all the glass in the rear is tinted black for privacy is this standard and mot ok??

Hi mate.

First of all yes your rear glass is legal so no worries about that as long as it is factory tinted. If its aftermarket then I dont know as the rear windscreen has to let a certain % of natural daylight through to be legal.

It sounds to me as though you do have a master key. If its got 3 buttons and can remotely open the boot then yes it is. The 100% certain way of checking tho is when you put the key in the ignition the security light should go out straight away. If its not the master key then the light will atay on for 2-3 seconds.

The way of coded your own keys is the infamous pedal dance! the routine is in other threads on this forum, just search and you'll find it. I dont know if the dealer is telling the truth. Put it this way, i have 1 master key and bought a blank key off eBay and I tried to code it using the pedal dance but I would get through 90% of it then it would re set itself and I'd have to start again. I lost patience and took it to the dealer (Lexus Swindon) and they charged me £60 to code it. Its only £180 if you buy the key through them as well.

Hope this helps.

There is 2 parts to programming the Lexus 3 button key, you have only programmed the immobiliser part, hence the car starts, but the buttons don't work. You have to complete the Lock/Unlock door dance now to program in the 3 buttons !

Hi help please

What type of Battery do you need for the key as mine has given up on my 3 button master key and I am using my spare key?

Can the Battery be purchased in Halfords and how easy is it to open the key, looks like one screw?

Thanks
