Rear Parking Sensors

Recommended Posts

I think my rear parking sensors aren't working, the reverse 'beep' works but I came very close to touch a bollard twice now and the tone and pitch and frequency of the beeping is not changing. Is there anything I can check my end?

No, I haven't bought a dud car, I've simply bought a Lexus thats been well used and besides, small things need fixing every now and then.

Yes, I have sensors. At least I have 4 equally spaced things on my rear bumper that I think are sensors. But when in reverse, I just get the beer to say in reverse and it doesn't change when I get close to stuff.

You should have 2 beeps if you have sensors

No, it appears I only have one beep. Equal gaps between them, so I can't differentiate one beep from two, so I'm assuming it's one beep. But if I've got those things on my rear bumper, aren't yhey meant to be parking sensors?

Look at under ur boot it's may hav some control there , so you can adjust or reset.

I have factory sensors and the beep for reverse gear is louder than the sensor beeper. You have to really listen to it to hear it. Stupid design!

Panya, thank you, I'll have a look under the boot and see what I can find.

Raymond, I have the things on the bumper, but I don't think they are working because I cannot hear any noise other than the reverse beep when I get close to stuff.

Unsure if yours are OEM Toyota sensors as the OEM ones are pretty ugly stick out rubber sensors and the ones in your's sit pretty flush and are colour coded.

Have a sit in the back and engage reverse and see if you can hear anything. The reverse beeper seems to be in the front and the reverse sensor beeper in the rear.

Also the OEM only has two sensors and they are on the corners rather than on the back. (see pict of mine)

I'll have a try later, my colleagues might think I've had that breakdown I've been promising otherwise. Thanks for the advice.

^^ I thought they were aftermarket tat to start with until I found the original Toyota/Denso owners manual along with the car's books etc..

They're damn ugly though... but the beep is much nicer than all aftermarket ones I ever fitted in previous cars..

If they are the OEM type the beeper/speaker is located under the NS C pillar trim. The volume control is located just up from where the jack is. You could also check under the rear bumper as one of the wires may have come loose. Mine are the Toyota Denso OEM type and there are 4 sensors fitted.I had this problem a few weeks ago, an intermittent beep, thought the one of the sensors was goosed, had a look under the bumper and found one of the wires disconnected.

Mine is all working but the volume is so low that the reverse beeper makes it hard to hear the reverse sensor one.

Just had a look in the boot but can't find the volume control? Is it tucked behind the grey liner?

Thannk you for all of you advice. When it stops raining, I'll have a good look. Panya. Thank you for keeping on, I'll make sure I don't forget, but I've been in work today and it's raining. I'll try and sort it out if I can find somewhere dry.

Russell:

Thanks a lot. I found the box with the volume switch :) It was on MAX already but I found why you can't hear it very good in the car.... They've mounted the speaker in the boot behind the rear seat  seems there's plenty of cable so I'll try and get it behind the C-pilar like yours is. I take it there's a mounting point already?

Sorry for hijacking your thread...

Cheers Russell, I'll try and get the rear seat out to route the cable and stick the speaker behind the C-pillar. The volume control was mounted with a double sided pad too. Had to get it off to get to the little white volume control.

Mine is quite old so they might have changed the sensors on te newer one like yours.

Take the liner off in the boot and have a look.

I had a quick look, but its 0º out there today. Under the liner next to the jack are wires similar to what youve shown in your boot Raymond. So I'm hoping that either the volume is down low or a wire disconnected.

I'll make sure that I have a look properly when the weather gets a bit warmer.
