Hi all....I know this subject has been probably flogged to death, but I'm a recent 'newbie' who has limited mechanical knowledge and is wanting to do a DIY Oil and Filter Change to my IS200.

I've read various things about accessing the filter and would like an up to date view from the guys in 'the know'!!

1. Do I need a special filter removal tool or will any old wrench do?

2. Best way to access?

3. Any 'How to Guide' on here ( cos I can't find one! )

4. Do I need a sump plug washer?

5. Recommended Oil ?

Thanks in advance guys !

Access to the oil filter is best from underneath. Put the car on axle stands and remove the N/S front wheel, and under-tray. You will then see the filter right up under the inlet manifold, I also removed the brace from the block to the manifold bit fiddly but give's greater access. I used one of these to remove the filter.

Yes you should use a washer I used a copper one.

Oil should be good quality semi or fully synthetic 5w/30 like this. Fully synthetic will give better performance over longer change periods, I would not spend a fortune on oil just a good branded product.

Im also about to do my own service when it gets a bit warmer. I will deff be using 5w30. Im also going to put in a K&N air filter in. I am thinking about doing the ATF at the same time too.
