Do Not Sell My Personal Information Jump to content

I sawed my leg off the other day and went and bought two new front shock absorbers from Lexus (as I wanted to stay true to the original compliant ride). My worn shocks have no "bounce" in them AT ALL. I'm feeling every little ridge in the road, so decided to take the plunge. The part number is 48510/20- 59106 (updated from 59105). When I got them home and out of the box (which was labelled correctly) I found that the part number was not KYB 59106 but 50111. This also happened to an owner on the U.S. forum some years ago but he was none the wiser and neither am I. Before I take them back, any of our experts got any answers? I don't want to be fobbed off by the dealer with some ***** and bull story. Now I don't know if these are the correct original shocks or not.

Why is the dealer selling pattern parts? Does this mean he's fitting them to unsuspecting customers' cars and charging OEM prices? This is just the same as my local Toyota dealer saying that they use Type 4 ATF when actually it's Dexron that claims to be "equivalent". It's a huge racket, make no mistake.

I also had a bad experience with KYB dampers once. They're nothing like the genuine ones - no matter what is claimed.

If they don't say Toyota then they're not. Period.

Toyota/Lexus originally has KYB shocks.

I have a photo of KYB on the original shock of my 2004 LS430 and a photo of the replacement (original Toyota) shock. The label on the old one sys KYB and on the new one both Toyota and KYB.

I am not handy in uploading the pics, but can send them to you by mail if you want.

Hope this helps.

Even if the parts are made in the same factory and are equivalent you bought a genueine Toyota part and that is what you should receive. If the part you have is the same as the original it should be cheaper so ask for a discount.
