Burning Clutch

My clutch seems like its constantly on. Burning smell all the time. New clutch?

Are you sure it is the clutch? Brakes have a similar odour.... Is the clutch slipping?

Yeah, revs up as if riding the clutch but not touching pedal. Drives off a standing start in 6th! Weird. If I give it any acceleration it just revs high.

New clutch time then... Change the cover, friction plate and the thrust bearing... And I'd be inclined to replace anything else in the bell housing that moves too (Possibly slave cylinder if it can't be changed without removing the gearbox) and some might say replace the flywheel as it is a Dual mass thingy... Straight forward job to do but the parts may cost a bob or two

I don't know 'cos I've never needed to do the job on my Lexus but the kit was about 600 quid for my VW Transporter.... Someone here will know though and be able to give you a better understanding of what is best to replace....I always replace everything inside the bell housing (Unless it's a single mass flywheel) as the biggest part of the job is taking the gearbox out...So you may as well replace what you can when you can

Genuine OEM clutches are about £250 from a main dealer plus about 2.5 hours fitting so it'll be about £400-£450 at a dealer.

Exedy clutches have a good reputation on IS200 and are £170 from eBay. Fit it yourself if you have the tools and the skills or take it to a garage a they'll charge you a couple of hours labour.

As for the flywheel all depends if it's been damaged. Your clutch does sound in a bad way so it could well be.

I wouldn't touch it if it's ok tho... A new OEM dual mass flywheel is £900 part only. Suppose if you changed it the same time as the clutch then the labour charge wouldn't too much more but still looking at a hefty bill! :(

To be fair, Andrew page are good for most things, next cheapest was £178 + vat

Lexus themselves were £307 Just for parts!

I think that Andrew page used to be the people who supplied the motor factors and have now decided to sell direct if you have an account so some useful savings to be made..
