Front And Rear Standard Alloys Slightly Different?

I discovered this on my Sportcross recently. When i bought it, it came with a spare set of alloys. I decided to put the silver set on after a puncture. Having done the job, when I tried to pull away, to my dismay there was grinding sound coming from one of the front wheels. Anyway to cut a long story short I discovered my front wheels have an extra recess on the inner rim that allows it to clear part of the suspension. Checking my other set of alloys i found the same thing.

Could anyone confirm is this normal? if so, why not make them all the same?

Main reason for asking is i am about to invest in a complete set of new tyres was going to fit Kumho Ecsta Le Sport KU39 - 215/45 R17 Y (91) all round. Would appreciate any opinions, comments or other recommendations, but please bear in mind I'm on a sub £100 a corner budget.

For tyres i recommend Good Year eagle f1 assymetric 2s.. Can get them for £90 each on camskill or about £110-120 fitted at a garage. I recently got 2 on my rears and theyre brilliant.. Good wet gripand apparently good on fuel.

As for the alloys I dont know about them being different

That was the case but I noticed it and swapped them back round. If they are different widths should i be fitting 225 on the rear and 215 on the front or would 215 all the way round still be ok.
