Help With Terrible Fuel Consumption + Lexus Specialist

Recommended Posts

ive had a new egr valve fitted in the last 3 weeks and my fuel consumption has dropped to 30-31mpg from a pretty poor 35-36mpg, my car now idles at 1200 rpm instead of 700rpm,

ive disconnected the Battery (negative terminal reomoved) for 5 mins and all the clocks were reset and windows needed resetting but it hasn't helped with anything else

I spoke to lexus Ipswich about the problem and they reckon the ecu needs reprogramming which takes 2hrs and costs £136 p/h inc vat, how the f*ck can it take this long and cost this much as when I had my Scooby an ecu remap with the added mods took 30 mins

does anyone know a lexus/toyata or Japanese specialist in the Cambridge - bury st Edmunds area that can do this job for a realistic price and not fantasy world prices

anything else I can try?

From some of the other posts I've read, you could try disconnecting the Battery for upwards of 30 mins then re-connect and you should then be able to "teach" the ecu your driving style, this may be enough to regain your lost mpg. Replacing the egr valve shouldn't mean the ecu needs reprogramming though. Just out of interest, why was the egr replaced? was it due to a carbon build-up and the reulting loss of power? The reason reprogramming takes so long and costs so much is that this can't be done on the vehicle on this model, the ecu has to be removed.

hope this helps.

I had the vsc warning light and it came back egr fault on there fault code reader

I disconnected the Battery again tonight and pumped the brake a few times, left it off for 15 mins and this time when I started it it went back to normal idle speed 700rpm, so hopefully I will get better (fingers crossed )

I had the same fault and was told by Lexus service that the egr needed replacing along with a pipe from the cat. i took both off and cleaned them. This has cured the problem for now but it will come back ( it will on yours too, it's a common fault ). Don't believe it when Lexus tells you it needs replacing it doesn't, it just needs a dam good clean and there is a mod that can be done that stops it recurring. type the following in to facebook:-

Lexus IS220d moDIfY

this shows you what you need.

shipz - Cambridge were a bunch of turds when my head gasket went and wouldn't valid the extended warranty that so many other owners on here got.

sendz - is that because you have the is250 that it was so quick, I refuse to pay what Ipswich quoted and now doubt Cambridge will be the same
