Hi, I have a problem with the spare key on my is220d. When I bought the car the Battery was dead on the spare, now I have just got round to changing it the car does not recognise the key. Is there any way to sync the fob to the car? I know a new key would be a job for the dealer but not sure for a key which should already be linked to the car?

You can use Toyota Techstream software to see how many keys are registered to the car and try and add the additional fob. You will need to buy the cable and software from eBay (Mini VCI cable for around £20) There are some videos on youtube showing how this is done. However if the fob is registered to another car I don't think you will be able to do anything! Alternatively a visit to a local dealership would be able to confirm this.

Thanks for the reply Wozza. I've had a quick look on eBay but i'm not sure which one to go for. Also the ones I've looked at seem to work on Windows XP only, the only laptop i have access to has Windows 7....

Interesting. Yesterday I tried the spare key on my 250c for first time in over a year. It was dead and therefore suspect a new Battery. Are you saying I cannot change the Battery without going to a dealer to have the Fob registered to the car?

Cheapest one from UK here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-SHIPPING-Single-Cable-for-MINI-VCI-FOR-TOYOTA-TIS-Techstream-V8-10-021-/151169951104?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item23326e6580

I have seen clips from you tube with this running under Windows 7 so assume it should work. Hopefully this could be confirmed by another member on here.

I've been in contact with one eBay seller and he says the cable and software he is selling works on windows 7 but only the 32bit version. I've ordered it but could take some time as I think it was from China

BigV try changing the battery anyway as it still may have a trickle charge to keep the settings even though it doesn't work.

Battery change alone did the trick thankfully. After this I decided to renew the Battery in my main key as well. Thanks
