Where And Who To Get The Cambelt Changed From?

Just been told by my local stealers they will charge £400 to change it. Can you tell me how much you got it done for? No way am I going to pay £400.

I need to find someone in reading who will do it for a lot less.

Got a quote of £190 for the cambelt (parts and labour) which is great (cheers JD). £240 for the 60k service. Do you guys know what exactly will be done in the 60k service?

It might be worth changing the idler and tensioner as suggested by many members here, was watching a set toyota ones on eBay for i think £150 (belt, idler and tensioner), so for £190 it'll be just the belt i guess, but still good price.

The guy just told me they will be using parts from ADL BLUE PRINT.

There is a set on eBay for around £110 which includes the belt, tensioner and idler.

If I get the stuff done by Lexus what brand parts will they be using? Can I trust ADL Blue Print parts?

toyota will use toyota parts. dont see any reason why not... but maybe look at the quality beforehand

The Blueprint cambelt kit for our cars is 3 peice kit ,belt/ idler/ tensioner, and the most reputable non manufacturer part available on the market. I have the kit on my car.

I have lost count on the number of Lexus owners I have spoken to who all think the cambelt should be changed every 10 years or 100,000 miles because it says so in the warranty service book. I have seen it state it as that myself.

Have Lexus released an official guidline statement to abrogate the earlier recommendation? Does anyone know where I can get hold of it from? Cause honestly I think most people out there in the big wide world are waiting till 100K or 10 years to change the cambelt.

Hi Guys have been very interested in the above suggestion and can confirm Toyota/Lexus recommend like most other manufacturers cambelts are changed at 60k.

Bellow I will show you why

What you are looking at is a IS 200 sport that covered 103k miles.

The tensioner assembly got weak and ran at a slight angle meaning the belt started to run of the bearings/cam rubbing against the cambelt cover, the belt is half the size it should be, this put additonal load on the water pump which needed changing.

This particular car would have been lucky to make another 100 miles and 10 miles with heavy use.

The suggestion that these cars can be left untill 100k before a belt change is simply crazy, we have changed loads and experience tells us they are just like every other toyota engine and need changing at 60k or 5 years.

I hope that clears some things up and puts some evidence forward to make it more clear.

Thanks James. That was very helpful. I feel for the numerous lexus owners that are driving their lexus around thinking it will not need changing until 100k. Atlast now I can direct them to this thread to show them why it needs to be changed every 60k and not every 100K (as stated in the Warranty Service Book).
