  1. We had this problem on our '97 LS400. It was the battery problem because the car hadn't been driven for 2 months. Can't be sure yours is the same problem but it does seem to have the same symptoms. HTH
  2. I'm gonna ask a daft question... would you need to tell those evil crooks... erm.. insurance companies  about this ? If not I want some!!!
  3. Hehe I don't think it will apply to illegal tinted visors because its not a defect as such... But I'm no lawyer, and if you can afford an extremely good one I think anything can be legal ;)
  4. I'm ok.... now :P I'll look them up and if I ever do need replacements then I'll get them green... I'm not gonna replace a perfectly good window just to change the colour of the tint. :)
  5. Is there anyone representing Lexus GB here? If not then why not, Lexus claim they listen to their customers in which case it would make good sense for them to assign one of their staff to use this forum to get feedback and answer some questions on certain things. Lexus are trying very hard to win over the MB S class and BMW 7 series owners and are spending a great deal of their marketing money on hosting the events offered in Ethos Extra (Ethos Extra isn't really a magazine as much as it is a sales brochure for people with lots of free time and money, in my opinion). There's no doubt that some Lexus drivers like and make use of the offers in Ethos Extra but seeing as younger people are driving Lexi would it not be a good idea to put some offers which appeal to the younger generation? After all, supposedly younger people splash their money around more on leisure and entertainment than older people. I wouldn't mind being offered tickets to the premieres of some films :D What does everyone reckon - Ethos Extra is bad altogether or could it be made better by broadening the offerings? For those who may be offended: I'm not defining old or young, it really does depend on how old or young you feel. [Edited on 15-4-2002 by GCHQAgent]
  6. I don't know how many people are aware of this but have you ever been stopped by the police for a faulty brake light or something? Have you ever been fined for it? Did they mention something called VDRS? No? VDRS means Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme. You can opt for it if you are stopped for a non-functioning headlight, brakelight or similar. It allows you 14 days in which to repair your vehicle. If you complete the repairs within 14 days you cannot be prosecuted (read: no fine!) Some police officers don't give you the option of VDRS because they have to fill in an extra form - ask for it! For more info. you can see: http://www.met.police.uk/sutton/html/traffic/vdrs.htm" target="_blank"> http://www.met.police.uk/sutton/html/traffic/vdrs.htm It does pay to know an officer :D
  7. *Runs off like a spoilt child who isn't getting things his way*
  8. I have to say it - I saw a very nice BMW today. It was a blue 5 series saloon but the thing that made it look so nice was the fact that it had matching blue rear tinted windows. So I have to ask people here - is there an easy/cheap way to change the dark rear tinted windows on the IS200 Sport to match the body colour? Please, someone say its possible and tell me how!!
  9. Now here's a solution... how about persuading Lexus USA to only sell to those who can pass an IQ test and demonstrate a reasonable level of intelligence? I have to say it, I know a few very funny and very smart Americans but most are... well I'll avoid using the words I feel it would be appropriate to use to describe them as those words would be inappropriate for this forum....
  10. That's very cool - thanks for posting pic. I think I can live with that little line on my car if it'll protect against stone chips :) -Emrul
  11. I guess they've already started seperating teamlexus members into the categories of those who deserve to own a lexus and those who dont :P
  12. It looks good, but expensive. Considering you can pick up a 160Gb external firewire drive for around £300 and a secondhand laptop off ebay for about £150 you can get a lot more capacity for a lot less money. All you'd need to do is get some software to make the whole thing work and even that's available from javadude's previous post. [secretly hoping he can turn all this talk into a working DIY in-car mp3 player :tumble:] -Emrul
  13. How's it going? Haven't gotten round to looking at the MP3 stuff yet - I've spent most of my time playing with the sat nav unit to see if I can get a composite signal for DVD into it - I haven't been able to. Spoke to Lexus, they said it is absolutely not possible without their help and they don't want to do it for legal reasons so no luck there. Aparently the two issues are 1) the stock screen uses a non-standard number of pixels and 2) the video signal is a single wire which carries a proprietary multiplexed signal (is this true 'cos it looks like Pioneer RGB) Anyway, I've given up on the sat nav stuff and will soon begin playing around with the MP3 stuff - will let everyone know if/when I'm sucessful. -Emrul
  14. Hmm... I assume the x-pel kit would also leave that mark after a while. I think I'm gonna put a fiver into a pot each week and have any problems sorted out by a company like chipsaway every few months. They don't charge much I don't think.
  15. OK, so Toyota get really upset when a journalist calls their Lexus cars 'glorified Toyotas' and there's no doubt that Toyota have gone to troubles to keep the Lexus brand apart from Toyota... So why is it that when I was taking my usual afternoon gawk at my car ;) that I noticed the rear-view mirror had 'Toyota' just stamped on it in fairly large text? I'm not a badge freak (well only a bit). I'm not complaining but after spending so many millions on building a brand and being almost emotional if any soul was bold enough to get them confused should they not have finished the job? I reckon it would have been cool to have Lexus written across it in the Lexus font... but then again, if having the mere name on a piece of plastic pushes the price up, I'll shut my mouth and happily accept the Toyota name  -Emrul [Edited on 8-4-2002 by GCHQAgent]
  16. I'm interested, especially in the "accessories and toys" bit ;)
  17. Prevention is the best solution... no one gets into my car but me . OK, so it will eventually need cleaning but I'll worry about that later. [Edited on 5-4-2002 by GCHQAgent]
  18. Hi, I just got a quote back from Armourfend for the complete kit for my IS200 (bonnet, bodykit, lights, mirrors, skirts, wheel arches) and it works out to almost £600 including installation. I have one concern: it doesn't cover the whole bonnet, I've been told it only goes up about 7". I've already got a paint chip above that mark and was wondering if there was a better way to spend the money to prevent stone chips? I've seen websites for invincashield and x-pel (which also only appears to cover part of the bonnet) but I really can't decide... help?? -Emrul
  19. A Lexus at 18 - they must pay well at GCHQ! Not really, their starting salary is a bit of a joke... I don't work for them anyhow. I just ended up with this username 'cos I use it for everything else and its usually not taken.
  20. I'm 18 people... I definitely know I'm the youngest here - and yes I do own a Lexus
  21. Well supposedly I'm a fulltime uni student but its just so boring... I'm also a company director currently contracting for a company Germany designing a mini-banking system and website - my live development machine can be found at http://dev.ice53.com" target="_blank"> http://dev.ice53.com. Also doing little bits of work for KPMG and a few small companies.
  22. Hi everyone, I've made a few posts to these forums over the past couple of days but today I actually had my IS200 delivered (Thankyou Jason at Lexus Stockport) and its amazing!! Just wanna say this site seems very cool and the people knowledgeable and friendly... eventually Lexus might have to sponsor this! Anyway, I live near High Wycombe in Bucks., have a kensington green IS200 Sport with Sat Nav and bodykit (Lexus)... hope to see some of you on the road :) [Edited on 28-3-2002 by GCHQAgent]
  23. Hmm this scares me as my car is going to be delivered tomorrow and I'd feel f****d if I managed to get stone chips that quickly... I've been scouring the net and here are some links I've found: www.armourfend.com (looks expensive, sounds great) www.chipsaway.co.uk (well if you do get any are these the people to call?) http://www.diyfixit.co.uk/motor/bodywork/s...s/scratches.htm (I found this site quite useful if you're in the mood for a DIY touch-up. http://www.autopaints.co.uk/tetrosyl.htm (Trtrosyl... looks like one of those 'as seen on tv' things, but I guess looks can be deceiving... anyone had any experiences?) It certainly seems a common problem on the IS - to the person writing to Lexus about the matter: Perhaps we could suggest they subsidise the cost of getting Armourfend or similar? 24. Yea its cool stuff, unfortunately this time around the people who helped create the format are seeking heavy royalties not just on the encoders but on every playback of the file. Because of that, the competition, and because its so new I doubt it'd take off. If are looking to buy a proper mp3 player system for your car then I'd suggest looking for one that can be flash upgraded to support new music formats, if not, then look for a format known as Ogg Vorbis - its free and better than mp3, not to mention that it has a better uptake than mp3PRO. Anyway, I'm going to shut up now, I'm deviating from the original post too much.:tumble:
