  1. Well here's a thought... since the country is going litigation mad and supposedly we can take local councils to court if a pedestrian trips over a pot hole or uneven road surface.... we should be able to do the same for damage sustained from pot holes? On a similar topic.... speed bumps are a pain and some of them are worse than others, in particular, one near where I live I'm sure causes damage to my car no matter what speed I go over them...
  2. Sorry I've taken so long to post my views here, I've been at uni for exams and am back for the weekend. The best I've gotten out of Lexus Stockport is a free touchup stick (which still hasn't arrived after more than 2 weeks, I'm told its still on order ), and it should have come with the car in any case. To be fair to Lexus though, I've gone around seeing a few other cars of similar age that friends have... some of the BMWs have rusting chips but none of the MBs I've seen do, then again MB cars come with something like a 30 year anti-corrosion warranty! I am with any action we decide to take as a group and a letter sounds like a great idea.
  3. A Lexus engineer told me the screen was custom made for Lexus by Fujitsu/Panasonic and had a proprietary multi-plexed input signal. He said feeding an RGB or composite signal into it may damage the unit. He also said the screen used a non-standard resolution which would make it difficult to play DVDs using any normal in-car player. Finally, he finished off by saying Lexus themselves could get a video signal into the device but that in the UK the legalities of having a TV/DVD playing in the drivers view hadn't been tested in court and so they won't do it.... of course, if you're ever with a Lexus exec in Japan I'm sure a local trip down the bar and a bit of drink might induce some sort of positive behaviour ;)
  4. Hey everyone, just found a similar thread on is300.net: http://www.is300.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t...3297023&forum=1" target="_blank"> http://www.is300.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t...3297023&forum=1 There was some debate about what the members of is300.net wanted from Lexus USA, if we're to approach Lexus GB over this I think we should just push for them to acknowledge that this is a problem. People are constantly saying Lexus dealers have never heard of a problem with the paint, I think we need to spell it out to them that there is a problem and then let them make an offer as to what to do about it. Denial is always the first sign of something bad ;)
  5. I just got off the phone from Lexus customer relations. The lady told me I have to see my local dealership and if I don't agree with their opinion I can ask to see the regional Lexus representative.... I told her that the is200 does have a problem with rust but she said 'I have to disagree with you there sir'. This is not very helpful ! If I don't get a result in a couple of weeks I will simply return the car and go with a BMW
  6. The stone chip on the roof does look like a figure eight and is very deep. The surprising thing about that particular rust spot is not just the perculiar shape of the figure 8 but also the fact that the shape is perfectly well rounded - very uncharacteristic of ordinary stonechips which aren't usually so smooth. As for the warranty: " 2. Surface rust and paintwork The warranty offers 3 years of cover for surface rust and paint defects appearing on any of the painted body panels due to a fault in material or workmanship. There is no mileage restriction on this. 3. Corrision perforation 12 years of coverage is provided against bodywork performation (i.e. any holes through the bodywork from inside to outside) due to corrosion that is attributable to faults in material or workmanship. Again, there is no milage restiction."
  7. I'm calling Lexus GB today, but you can email them direct via this form: http://www.lexus.co.uk/contact_email_frame.html
  8. I agree with Admin... I think its IS specific since the LS400 we had before was perfect - not even a single stone chip on it! The only problem was a slight pitting of the alloys but then again, the alloys were never _ever_ cleaned! A friend also has an older Mk2 LS400 which has stone chips but absolutely no rust. I've looked at the warranty book - corrosion is only covered if its down to a defect in the materials used or a manufacturing defect. I hope Lexus GB can do something about it since it is obviously not normal (for any car in the same class), but in the meantime I can't see my baby in this state so I'm calling RAC/ChipsAway tomorrow :(
  9. Thanks, I may have to call Lexus Gb... I bought the car from lexus stockport and they're around 200 miles away. The sales guy said if they had have noticed the rust they would have just touched it in with a bit of paint. I agree with an earlier poster, I had a 7 year old BMW 3-series as my previous car and it didn't have one bit of rust even though almost every single panel on the car had a chip or scratch, some even exposing the underlying metal :o
  10. Hi there, as some of you will know I haven't had my is200 for long... but already I've noticed rust spots in two places. The first is on the edge of the boot lid, and only today I noticed another one on the roof where the bodywork meets the rubber seal of the windscreen. I showed my car to Lexus Bracknell and they said that because they appear to have been the result of chips it isn't something that can be done under warranty. I then called Lexus stockport and they told me to touch it up with the touch up stick :o I may be wrong, but wouldn't the rust just eat away underneath? I've had the car a few weeks and I doubt rust could have formed as a result of my own neglect since its hardly rained and I give the car a very close going over when I clean it every week. Any ideas?? From the past reports of rust there is clearly a problem with rust that Lexus aren't admitting... :(
  11. I'm quite disturbed by some of these postings... in my area we have a few cats and they've all been trained well enough not to get onto peoples cars - perhaps speak to the owners and suggest better pet training? I'm no lawyer, but as I understand it owners can be held legally responsible for the actions of their pets.
  12. If I may stick my nose in.... I think team lexus / lexus owners club is more of a multinational car club. We have members not just from the UK but the rest of Europe, North America and Asia. It makes sense to create seperate areas for members from each of these territories so that they may discuss region specific topics such as meets. You will find many other Lexus car clubs like clublexus and is300.net but they tend to be US-centric and one of them doesn't seem to be too well moderated (this is not flame bait, please don't gun me down, its just an observation!). Finally, while we're not in direct competition with the other Lexus clubs around, there is never any harm in users having a choice of which site they wish to use and we're here providing one more choice for them to consider. Hope that helps. [Edited on 23-4-2002 by GCHQAgent]
  13. Welcome to the club Grangey, and no it doesn't matter that you haven't yet picked up the Lexus :P Thanks for all your information, I'll look at the link later today :)
  14. It's really annoying, price differences aren't just for the TRD kit, they apply to other things too. Lexus Stockport said £350 (inc. vat and fitting) for 4 reverse parking sensors, Lexus Guildford said £500 (inc. vat and fitting).... I just don't understand it
  15. I've said bye bye to gfs for a lot less... :D
  16. Hey, who's bringing the girls?? I'm fairly certain I can make it to the meet but I don't wanna put my name down until I really have to... can anyone enlighten me on whether there's a deadline??
  17. Right people, I know what I'm doing now (I think *g*) This is how I'm tackling the problem:- Initially use a laptop to store and play the MP3s with the intention to move to using a more embedded solution later. I plan on using PicoBSD aswell as a couple of other bits of Open Source technology :) The hardware must have a wireless lan card (WiFi 802.11b) The control unit will be a Compaq iPaq with the same wireless connectivity. Using the iPaq to controller / playlist manager is a really funky idea in my opinion. First, its a wireless solution so its nice and easy. Second, you have lots of power to build visualisation / nice UI. Finally, you can control the audio 150m - 300m outside of the car... yes a very kev thing to do but hey its still gowna be cool. Oh and I almost forgot, you will eventually be able to transfer files between cars as you drive past each other aswell as let the iPaq function as a personal mp3 player through its headphone sockets. Sounds a bit grand? Well if I get this stuff done maybe I'll have the courage to show myself at JAE :) [Edited on 18-4-2002 by GCHQAgent]
  18. For all you people who are still having trouble (or perhaps everyone with a fisher price pc ) I'm converting the files to MP3 audio (sorry no video). You may download them from: http://www.ice53.com/~emrul/teamlexus/2dyno.mp3" target="_blank"> http://www.ice53.com/~emrul/teamlexus/2dyno.mp3 http://www.ice53.com/~emrul/teamlexus/3dyno.mp3" target="_blank"> http://www.ice53.com/~emrul/teamlexus/3dyno.mp3 http://www.ice53.com/~emrul/teamlexus/4thdyno.mp3" target="_blank"> http://www.ice53.com/~emrul/teamlexus/4thdyno.mp3 For those who had trouble even accessing the files from the original links, I've posted the wmv files too :) : http://www.ice53.com/~emrul/teamlexus/2dyno.wmv" target="_blank"> http://www.ice53.com/~emrul/teamlexus/2dyno.wmv http://www.ice53.com/~emrul/teamlexus/3dyno.wmv" target="_blank"> http://www.ice53.com/~emrul/teamlexus/3dyno.wmv http://www.ice53.com/~emrul/teamlexus/4thdyno.wmv" target="_blank"> http://www.ice53.com/~emrul/teamlexus/4thdyno.wmv If needs be I can copy onto maybe a couple more servers. 19. It will need Windows Media Player version 8. If you have that version and its still not opening, copy the link to the clipboard. Start up windows media player, open the link as a file (it will take a while to load its about 355Kb in size) If ppl. are still having problems I can try to extract the audio and post it as an MP3 or Ogg. If you're using software which hasnt been infected by M$ then you really better ask me or someone else to convert the audio to MP3 or Ogg otherwise you have no hope. head goes away> Man I feel like I was just posessed!
  20. Damn!! I like that hood with air vents on the 280t (and yes I am drooling.. its the second time today this site has made me drool :P). Not sure about the Merc style side mirrors, the idea is nice but I think it looks like too much of an MB rip off. I think if it is gonna be a rip off of another manufacturers part then it should at least have the areodynamic contours of the new BMW side mirrors (not the really short M3/racing ones). I think MB have a patent or trademark on those side mirror lights which is why so many others haven't yet copied it... if only Toyota had done the same with the rear Altezza lights. Thanks for the pics... they're really cool. *continues to drool*
