  1. hey sell them after 3 months...must be something to do with TAX/VAT!? Anyone know?
  2. This is the best advice so far - forgot about all that UV and sound deadening stuff in the windscreen... So insist on an a pukka one...
  3. Good tip, but it tends to depend upon ambient temperature for hardening times. In this cold weather, 24hrs is about right. In hot weather (don't wax in bright sunlight BTW), 3-4 hours is fine. If the wax doesn't harden properly the result can look hazy, especially on a dark colour. Cheers Mr. M, So it's probably better to leave it for as long as you can...I'm fairly new to detailing...and learning fast!!! Can't wait to get that next coat on, 'cos that should be blindin'!
  4. Carlack - 1hr30mins or so (this was on a Honda Jazz - my new IS is still on order) Carnauba P21s - 1hrish Remember to let the Carlac68 "cure" for at least 20 minutes before removing it... Use clean old towels, followed by Microfibres for best results. If you're applying more than one coat of carnauba, wait 24 hours to apply each new coat after removing it (allow the carnauba to "harden"), and you can remove Carnauba straight away though I gave it 30 minutes or so...came off easy... It's like beezwax, so does not haze over easily...and gets pushed around....Microfibres are best!! PS - use different sets of towels for Carlack and Carnauba... The Jazz is outside the window, and it's been a week now (I only applied one coat of wax so far), lots of rain and lots of driving...I can still see my house front door reflecting off the side of the car... Dunno how long this treatment will be good for, but I reckon it's worth the extra. Turtlewax is crap ion comparison, and hopefully carlack is as good at least as Supagard...the Carnauba just gives it a deep smooth shine...time will tell....
  5. Cheers mate!! The thing that has always gauled me is that when you see the car, work out the deal, and are just about to sign, they promise you everything is easy, and that Lexus Customer care and Dealer service is second to none. They tell you how things will happen, how long it will take etc. So they can talk the talk at my local dealers... But they won't walk the walk...that's what gauls me. They just can't seem to deliver though they make the noises and know what should be done. It's an industry wide problem. In my line of work, suppliers often have powerpoint slides showing the theory and concept. It all looks easy...but they then struggle to deliver. I call it "vapourware" as opposed to software or hardware - 'cos it only exists in their minds...!! BTW, Tax disc arrives this morning...a day later than expected... So it took: 4 weeks of chasing to get the money for my old car (I was told 10 days tops) 5 weeks for cherished transfer (I was tyold 10 days tops) 5 weeks for tax disc so I can claim it back as agreed (I was told 10 days...) ...and 5 weeks down the road, I am still not sure exactly when in March the car comes...so I'm playing it safe, taking the loan early and will only leave Insurance till last minute...bearing in mind the hassle that Scott went through... How many new IS's have you guys seen on the roads? I've seen 15 New IS's now, 8 on the roads driven, and 7 in one go on a delivery wagon on Wednesday on the A34 near Oxford!! Dunno if they count though...
  6. Oh dear mate, rough luck. Who are you gonna use - Autoglass in Leic (Welford Road)? Happened to me last year, they :tsktsk: up the plastic cowl at the base of the screen where the wipers are...and the new screen distorted the view for 6 inches from the bottom all the way along...took 3 new screens, and lots of heartache. I would suggest you take it to them, rather than let them come to you. They bring half the tools and botch it up... You can try to argue about OEM or aftermarket, but I reckon they'll sight the "kite" mark... How much extra are they talking? If it's a few shillings I'd get the OEM anyway, but they really do take the piff! Good luck mate...
  7. Bear with me on this one... Bush, Blair, Bill Gates and the Pope find themselves in a private Jet, with one pilot and one cabin boy called Osama. The pilot gets struck with genge fever and dies at the "wheel". Bush panics and starts looking in the cabin. Can't find a parachute and tells Osama to look for them. Osama comes back and says "I managed to find 4 'chutes". Bush grabs the packs that Osama is holding, says "without me, world peace will be restored and Arabs will rule the world..." puts it on it on and jumps out... Blair says "without me Bush will suffer on his own, and won't be able to organise the white house p155 up, and the world will go to anarche...". He grabs one, puts it on and jumps out... Bill Gates says "without me the world of IT will be dominated by Apple, and we can't have that" and grabs a chute and jumps out... The Pope looks at Osama, and says "Osama, you've been a good boy. You take the 'chute. I've lived my life - may Jesus, Allah and the holy spirit be with you..." Osama reaches between his legs, and says "Dearest Pope, why fear, I have a 'chute for each of us" The Pope, totally puzzled, kneels down and asks "how can that be son?" Osama says "Well, you know the 'chute that Bush took, well it had my sandwiches in it..."
  8. 5 Year old Sammy goes up to Mum, and points at her breasts... "What are those?" he asks in puzzlement. She thinks for a moment, and says "Why Sammy, they are balloons that will fill with air and float me to heaven when I die..." 4 days later Sammy runs into the kitchen. He says "Mummy, mummy, I heard a noise in the Nanny's bedroom. She's dieing....She's shouting '....Oh gdd I'm coming...', and Dad's blowing up her balloons to try and help..."
  9. Well done - now starteth the sleepleth nighteths!! Congratulations - !
  10. Those of you that are bored of this thread, switch to another channel... Well, I am now waiting for my Audi's Tax disc, so that I can claim the RFL back (till end Sep 06). Bearing in mind they bought the car off me on 14th Jan! Through the dealers incompetence, I have lost a £10er or so thus far (not a lot but it's the principal) with all of the delays, wrong forms etc. I was promised it was in the post to me yesterday recorded, but I've still got nothing. As per the other thread, I spoke to the Salesman again yesterday, and he obviously does not know when my car is being delivered, in spite of the dealer principal telling me it's due on 9thish and with me getting it 13th March. The words "..hopefully but can't be guaranteed.....with a bit of luck..." don't add confidence at all. Whats worse, it that the salesman seems to think it's still 23rd of March, which means I get it at end of March...or are they trying to register it in April for April targets?? I just wish they would do something which would make me believe the customer satisfaction indices. I just can't believe they still can't guarantee it. The lack of comm's is just astounding from within the dealership, right through to the factory! I dunno how long it's in a boat for, but it must be being finished right now...? Lexus Leicester - I know you're watching, you know who and where I am. In the meantime I'm relaxed about it (inspite of sounding as if I care), because it's like talking to a brick wall, and no different to the opposition in Leicester. My expectations are very low, so it's over to you. These problems are small, hence me being relaxed, but how on earth do I organise my finance etc if you keep contradicting your dates? That's what I told the salesman yesterday...and oh yes he said he would email me with the delivery date...still waiting...
  11. I suppose that depends on whether the girls were in the bath washing the mats for you
  12. I bought my IS200 from Leciester ... if that's where you are reffering to. Yes I am... They just seem to fail promise after promise... I have now been told a different delivery date (!) - see next post
  13. Absolutely...I dread to think how my local Lexus garage would react to a problem like this... If the pre-sales is anything to go by, after-sales could be baaad!
  14. What kinda surfaces do you step out onto ? Sounds like a silly question, but if you were to say step out onto muddy surfaces regularly it could be worth getting the carpets Scotchguarded. But if you usually just step out onto concrete I wouldn't bother - I'd just give them a regular vacuum, and if they DO get dirty steam clean them or use a carpet foam/spray. My drive is nice and clean... But everywhere else is bad...NCP's, work carpark... It's black carpets so I'll se how it goes before splashing out... I may wangle the rubber mats as the service from the dealer has been naff!
  15. Cheers guys - vinegar...lots in the kitchen and cheap as chips I'll stick with that suggestion of Vinegar (am happy to use that as I use Mr Muscle window cleaner - the green liquidy one which also has Vinegar and does a great job). I'll also finish off my trusted Halford Interior cream (which is very good BTW). What about the carpets - is it worth Scotchguarding them?
  16. its winter time and that engine has 177hp. It can not spend less fuel than 130hp Audi or 120hp BMW. UPDATE - my first tank averaged 36.4mpg on the trip computer, but I calculated at 37.6mpg. My current tank is averaging 38.5mpg on the trip, so definately improving. A 320d is 163bhp... Mid 30's is a bit poor, but really it depends on where the majority of miles are done (i.e average speed, number of stops etc). It should improve by 10% or so over the first few 000 miles. My A4 went from 51mpg on my regular jaunt down south to 56-58 MPg at a steady 70 over 10000 miles...made hardly any difference at any other speeds...Just watch the oil consumption.
