  1. If you pick up a car that was built more than two months ago then it is most likely that it was been driven before. Check for the first registration date, it might be different to the one on the current registration sticker.
  2. The Parent and Child spots are really nice and wide. But some vehicles have huge and long doors that the edge of their doors just touch the body of your car when they swing open. This way you will get a long deep scrape instead of dent. It happened to a friend of mine who parked in the Parent and Child spots :D
  3. Did they re-spray the bonnet, bumper etc due to stone chip for free ?
  4. Look at the see-through coolant reservoir when the engine is cold. The coolant level is satisfactory if it is between the "FULL" and "L" lines on the reservoir. If the level is low, add the coolant. Never add coolant through the metal cap at the front that says caution. Use ONLY "Toyota Super Long Life Coolant" or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, and non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology.
  5. The problem may be related to one of the following issues... 1 - Look very hard for any corrosion on the metal part that cause bad earth. 2 - Water got in the wiring system or fuse box that cooked some of the relay or electric component. 3 - The On/Off switch stick might be faulty. It sounds silly but possible
  6. Absolutely right, we need to get the Lexus people to act and do it right in the first place. Consumer force is powerful
  7. I don't mean to be rude as well, that is what I used to think and had told many many people before. I have the latest model of IS200, probable the last on the production line but still built with plenty of rattles, noise and some little niggle that couple of them are not fixed yet after a few visits to the dealer ;)
  8. This is not true rap03, some of the guys HERE use fold up push bike
  9. I don't think you will find anything else beside rattle or noise for a new car, then what's the point of test drive the car before handing the cash over :D
  10. You might be the first to test drive before picking up. Just wondering what will you do if any rattle spotted, will you still hand the cheque over or wait for the fix ? Will they think you're fussy or a bit of niggle :D
  11. This is very true. The boot cover of my old SAAB 9000 fall down occasionally after it is opened. The boot is really huge and deep, and the cover weights over hundreds kilo. if you have your feet on the ground with your head inside the boot, it can chops you into half if the cover fall down. I think I have the latest model of IS200. It does have arm rest and adjustable electric seat height. Regarding the windows closure I would say it's great to have it functioning this way. I used to turn the alarm on with windows half open so that the hot air can escape in the very hot day. Since it's got the radar, the alarm will go off if someone sticks their hands in.
  12. I really hate going back to the dealer for noise fix. They fixed one noise and cause another two. They opened the dashboard and did not fit it back properly. They bump the car like a "four wheel drive" running off-road to testify the noise. When you got the car back it seems that it's loosely piece here and there, that the car had been driven thousands of miles in last couple hours. If you have to drop your baby in again for the same or similar symptom, make sure you check your car thoroughly including chips & scratch throughout the car when picking it up. Someone here may know what I mean. If something that you can fix it easily yourself or can live with it, don't let your baby suffer, they won't take good care of your baby as you do. Even if the noise seems to be fixed now, more noise will certainly come back later for this sort of median class car. Say after a year or two, I would then feel free to let them muck around with it. I would just enjoy as much as I can while it's new.
  13. You can get a foldable push bike that can fit into the boot.
  14. I have mad a post HERE, hope it helps :D
  15. It is an interesting topic that most people here would like to know. I can see a lot of complains about bad mpg in this forum. The question is why don't you get the same mpg or better than as claimed by Lexus. The answer is simple, it's because they don't drive the car the way you do. If you are to start off from the same starting point sure you will arrive at the destination a lot earlier than them. The claimed mpg is not just based on Lab Test but it is indeed achievable. They don't test the car through heavy traffic or traffic jam like condition most people experience daily. They drive like granny on a reasonable traffic and road condition with minimum braking. There's always a tolerance say +-5% since fuel comsumption depends on many factors and the characteristic of the car. Every car has its own characteristic, ie. you will not find two exactly the same car (They might look exactly) as the material used in any part might vary slightly and similarly for the assembly line. Even the wheel nuts might be of some degree tighter or looser :D You may greatly improve the mpg by following the points below : 1 - Avoid hard acceleration and braking : Drive with very light foot on the accelerator and avoid as much braking as possible. Say you're going at 45mph and the red light traffic is approx 500m ahead, you know your car will get there even if you lift your foot from acceleration. Don't rest your left foot on the brake of an automatic vehicle - the extra drag increases fuel consumption by at least five percent. 2 - Flow with the traffic : Smooth driving can reduce fuel consumption by up to 30 percent. 3 - Watch your speed : By travelling at 90 km/h on multi-lane roads rather than 110 km/h you can reduce duel consumption by 10 percent or more. 4 - Lighten the load : Take off roof-racks and bullbars if they're not needed. Remove golf clubs or tools if you're not using them and reduce fuel consumption by up to 5 percent. Keep you tyre pressure towards the top of the manufacturer's recommended range. 5 - Switch off : When stuck in traffic for any length of time turn the key to the "accessory" position (not to "off") and if an automatic transmission, shift to "park:. Vehicles fitted with this feature as standard typically reduce fuel consumption in urban areas by up to 15 percent. 6 - Open the windows : When the weather is fine, switch-off the air-conditioning. This reduces fuel consumption by up to 10 percent in urban driving. 7. Service your car regularly : Blocked air filters can increase fuel consumption significantly.
  16. I might see why IS300 feels better over IS200. If you put 5 adults in the IS200 you will feel it a lot more comfortable as the spring & shock absorber start to work, except that it's running a bit slower.
  17. Did you get your DVD player? if so is it any good? does it play DVD-R (saves taking originals with me :D ) let us know as i am interested in getting one Cheers Matt I haven't got this DVD player but I'm 101% sure that it will play DVD-R as every DVD player up in the the market now plays DVD-R :D
  18. Where does it seem to come from and during idle or moving ? Hear it during braking Check all wheel nuts for lose yourself . If that does not solve get a mechanic to chech the brake and service both front calipers. That will resolve the clicking/knocking issue.
  19. Where does it seem to come from and during idle or moving ?
  20. Is there any dead mice or fish around or near where you parked Now push the air recycle button making sure that no outside air is allowed to get into the car and we can start diagnosing from there on.
  21. There are plenty of softwares that create DVD Audio, and it's free if you know where is VDOWN as my Avatar indicated. Some of the softwares are Goland Audio DVD Creator, Sonic DVD Audio Creator, Minnetonka DiscWelder & Adobe Audition etc But I find Goland Audio DVD Creator to be working better. If anyone needs it or has any software/computer issue you can PM me as it's not related to Lex I guess.
  22. If the alloy wheel is really dirty, use your car wash shampoo with sponge or wash mit and then hose it off. From then on you can keep it in tip top condition by wiping it every one or two days. It'll take approx 10 - 15min for the four wheels. 3-4min for each front alloy wheel and about 2min for each rear wheel with two piece of hand tower/tissues per wheel. Without the need of water, use a piece of tower quickly wipe off all the dust from the wheel and then use another tower to ensure that it is clean to touch. You can keep your whole car clean to touch by spending 20 to 30 min every one or two days with just a bucket of water. That is if you use the car everday for about one to two hours per day. I can provide a bit more info if anyone need it. I prefer to keep my Lex clean to touch by doing it this way than to spend 2 - 3 hours washing the car every one or two weeks. It's a lot easier to do it this way than washing since the dust come off easily. Dirt might stick to the paint after 4 - 5 days. It's kinda habit and good exercise. You can do it before going to shower :D
  23. This is possible by bypassing the checking sensor. Auto Elec should be able to carry out the task. But keep in mind that by doing this you're risking the scorch of your bum or at least the seat and the heating function will eventually cooked :D
  24. The noise comes on as soon as the car's moving say around/above 10mph regardless of cold or hot engine. Sound like the Diff that whine since the dealer could not find anything wrong with the exhaust. The noise is bloody loud that drives me nuts but the dealer who drove with me in the car said he could not hear it. They took the car for a day without any cure. They are kinda careless people. Should I try another dealer ?
