  1. Guys, this is ma first post and a I gotta admit. I am jealous as hell. Why are you jealous...you are getting a new 250 yourself ??
  2. I'm definately with the "Hell Yes" brigade...dont even bother posting pictures, if it was damaged no matter how slight, get 'em to replace it !! I Know I would...it ain't every day I lash out 30k plus for a new car from my very hard earned personal dosh
  3. I am expecting my new IS250 SE-L auto in March, and am getting a little concerned about comments re: lack of side panel "buffer strips" or whatever you call them. It is not always possible to park well away from ignorant / jealous richard-heads who could easily dent a door panel. Does anyone know of any after-market gizmos that may do the job without spoiling the look of the car? If it helps, I went for the astral black colour, and wondered if something would be available, maybe pro-lex or similar are considering this valuable and necessary accessory? maybe even the side strips off a competely different vehicle would do ?? Any Ideas appreciated ....TYIA :)
  4. lease keep us upto speed on how you get on....I have a 250 arrivng in March, and fancy some of this :) ← My 220d was arriving in January....but now it's arriving in March as the dealer could not guarantee a date... It'll be fun seeing ther faces when I take this in next week!! I have to say though, people on this forum know much more about the cars then the people selling them - an industry wide problem! ← I have written to my dealer about these settings, and included a copy of the relevant page / codes. I will post response here . Did you get a response yet from your dealer??

  6. HNY to all....but I rather hope to get just what I wish for rather than what I deserve
  7. I'm not sure that Claire has the sky+ box....maybe just regular sky?? If so, I dont think it has an optical (TOS) link connection, and therefore audio should be output via a regular phono style set of sockets (usually red for right channel, and white for left ) I imagine the DVD recorder would have similar inputs ( IE analog style) and maybe a seperate patch lead ( phono to phono ) would work?
  8. Toys, toys, toys, where do I start: The way the mirrors tilt down when you knock it into reverse, the rear blind also goes down, but does not go back up!? The voice control The smart entry and start, which is way cool. "Look dude no keys!" On the SE-L the steering wheel moves towards you when push the Start button. And moves away from you whenstop the engine. The ventilated seats are a great idea and will be very nice in the summer. If you hold down the unlock button on the keyfob all the windows open and vice versa if you hold down lock. Useful if you forget to close the windows or in the summer when it is hot. According to the manual this also happens if you have the sunroof fitted. The EMV - Electro Multi Vision display unit is a joy, chrystal clear and the maps on the sat nav are amazing. I could go on but I fear I might be starting to bore some people. Just to answer your question about the iPod, there is no way to control the iPod via the car stereo system. The only thing that you can do is change the volume on the stereo. And just to say what a fine stereo it is. It is a shame you can't do more but for now I'm happy. Someone will come up with a way of doing this I'm sure. Imagine a dear friend going into the Witness Protection Programme. When you meet up a few years later, physically they have changed but inside they are still the same person. That is what the new car is like. Very familiar but very, very different too. ← Cheers...sounding more and more like I made the right decision with the MM option, also went for the sunroof Read somewhere that some peeps were not happy with the sat nav "controllability" more especially that nothing could be entered when the car was moving. Surely the point of voice activation is the ability to be able to issue commands on the move safely? I currently use a tom tom ( and v good it is too btw ) but decided that sticking the thing on my new 30k + motor would be naff, so went for the mm pack. Please tell me that I can change routes/destinations or whatever whilst I am on the move. Also....have you managed to find a way of getting a DVD disk full of mp3s to play? I know it is poss with a CD, but 3 gig of mp3s on 1 DVdisk would be real cool. Thanks for the update and keep 'em coming. ( PS wifey and I really liked the "cooling seats" we tried on the demo...won't say what she thought one of the advantages would be..but it sounds good to me nudge nudge wink wink ) :winky:
  9. Congrats on the car mate - glad it is all we hoped for so far....I m counting down the days until mine arrives ( march ) please let us know how you get on with the toys, and can you control the Ipod from the car (as opposed from the player) or is , as I suspect, the aux in socket just an audio input ?
  10. lease keep us upto speed on how you get on....I have a 250 arrivng in March, and fancy some of this :)
  11. How do you mean " width is with the mirrors out" - not the given dimensions in the brochure surely...cos an aerlier reply (PS Thanks ) staed that dimensionwas 2 metres exactly.
  12. I consider myself just as fortunate over these two incidents, as I do UNFORTUNATE over many other situations where myself / relatives have been unfairly treated. For example..... My Father who is 84 and has driven (pretty well too actually) gets stopped for doing 44 ( as per his speedo ) in a 40 Zone, and is fined £60 and given his first ever 3 points. Typically taking none of the circumstances into account ( early morning, hardly any traffic, JUST inside the zone, etc ), the copper obviously needed to up his quota for the week. This sort of blind justice is exactly what turns people ( Including my law abiding old man ) against the police.
  13. Thanks guys... cant really go in front first, as backing out and up our very steep drive makes backing out a real sod Think I am shafted...willl double check the door width now ( PS its a double garage and converting it to 1 big door will cost circa £4k ) already had the quotes !!
  14. Some 15 yars ago approx, myself and 2 colleagues were racing in convoy down the Flint coast road in our Company Granada 2.8 ghias :) As we approached the 30 zone ahead, we slowed from 100+ mph, and as the tail-ender, I spotted a cop bike in my rear view, right up my jacksy - s**t where'd he come from He pulled alongside me, and I noticed my mate in the middle car of the 3, P****ing himself laughing. By now we were down to around 30 ish, and the cop looked straight into my eyes through the side window, and just wagged his finger at me, then gestured his hand up and down slowly, in other words, "slow down, you naughty boys" - then he accelerated away with a quick rearward wave of his hand !!! Now THAT was more than lucky :) Only other time I got away with a ticking off, was on an almost deserted snake pass, as a 21 yr old, in my then pride and joy BMW 2002 :D Young lady cop blue lit me from behind, and after asking why I was in such a hurry, ( silly question really to a 21 yr old bloke in a beemer) complimented me on my car, chit chatted for 5 mins ( guess she was lonely :) ) and told me to take it easy. I still wonder now whether I should have been real cheeky and asked her for her particulars...
  15. Have tried the rear camera thingy when on the test drive....and don't think I would be happy without good old mirrors as well, once "my back end is in " the camera will not help me to avoid scraping the side panels, but mirrors will.
  16. First off.....merry holidays and all that stuff to fellow lexus owners - incidentally, in the vein of the infamous Alan Partridge forecourt sketch...what is a collection of lexus Owners called ? ( apart from an astute group that is ) :) Anyway, what I am after is knowing whether my new toy ( 250 SE-L )will fit in my garage when it arrives in March The brochure does not indicate whether the dimensions for overall width included "sticking out mirrors" which I will need to have when reversing through my rather small garage door opening :o Cheers
  17. As mine was not gonna be ready until Feb anyway, I decided to wait until March and get the 06 plate, I personally feel that this will always appear a much younger car than a 55 a few years down the road. I understand the desire to get yours in January though....dunno If i can wait patiently either Incidentally after much arm twisting, I got supaguard, a weatherproof boot liner, and first service F.O.C from my tight arsed dealer - took 5 calls and 2 threats of cancelled order though A quick google for supaguard shows average cost for mid size exec car (interior and exterior) at approx £200 retail. Boot Liner is around £70, and service about £180...so with the extra £500 above guide price P/Ex for my old motor, I reckon to have "saved" around £950. Not spectacular on a car costing £32500...but I was warned that Lexus dealers are real tight to deal. I could have got over a grand straight off the price of an X type, but 30 seconds into the test drive and it was all over for me! What a noisy, thirsty, quick depreciating Mondeo that is
  18. Andy.....I have clocked up 54 years.....so I just beat you :) Circa 275 pounds qouted for the same car ( 250 se-l auto mm sunroof )but mileage of around 10k P/A, 1 x sp30 and x windsceen claim all this year. If I average around 30 mpg I will be happy :) get around 22 on my current car - 11 yr old Xedos 9. Yes I know about the cd / mp3 thing....it was just a thought that maybe the dvd would work but no big deal. Thnx PS March 1st can't come soon enuff for me !!
  19. DVD Changer is MP3 compatible, and also has an AUX socket for your IPOd!! Best car steroe you will ever hear, get a decent, bassy track and stick it on MAX and listen to your ears bleed!! its awesome. A salesman with passion for his product, unheard of I know, but this is a LEXUS!! True, the bit at the end is so true, I sell these cars for a living and I'm the only one who needs to know that I sell the best car in its class. It makes it so much easier to sell these cars, because they sell themselves, they are awesome. True Lexus wont be the biggest seller in the world, but who cares, I dont want to see one on every street corner. We'll still sell as many as they can build, and I'm so looking forward to my best January ever, especially with the diesel due any day now. I still want the guy sat next to me at the traffic lights to stare at my new IS. It makes me so happy to see a BMW 3 Series pull into my car park, because I know that the people inside it will be blown away with the quality and finish of the new IS. The BMW and Audi are good cars, but the IS is a GREAT car, The Mercedes c class is awful but there is a new one out next year. Long live the IS, its here to stay and its the best in class and its paying my mortgage at the minute!! ← :) Hi There. I too have an SE-L MM auto on order, but have elected to wait until march for the new reg plate ( earliest was Feb anyway...so a few more weeks wont hurt ) I also added the sunroof, but went for black so saved the cost there :-) Wondered how you got on with prices and discounts- seems to be a bit of a no no with lexus dealers?? This is the first brand new car I have ever bought ( company car driver until retirement last month ) and confess to some nerves having been seduced by the test drive(was convinced up to that point that I would go for the BMW320d) but the IS250 blew us away...... :D Blew all the pension lump sum on this baby...and worried a bit when I read the autocar review too. Seems running costs overall are gonna be a bit steep - my dealer said I could expect 30 mpg+ - but somehow I doubt it, I have a bit of a heavy right foot ANYWAY....please let us know how it all lives up to the dream when you get yours tomorrow. Interested also to know if I can fill a DVD with mp3 files and whether the unit will play 'em ?? Cheers. PS a few more suggestions for Insurance quotes would be appreciated on this site ?? ← ← You may even be older than me! Just for info my IS200 Sport was insured last year with Tesco after max NCD was £373.80, which includes £22.05 legal protection and £12.60 for a temporary replacement car. My new IS250 SE-L MM has been insured for £285.00, including replacement car and protected no claims! This came from an initial query through the Insurers recommended on the GOLD forum but turned out to be cheaper than going through their agreement with LOC. They will be contacting me when my IS200 is due for renewal in June 2006 and I fully expect to be paying less than £250.00 for that renewal. :D ← I guess then that 275 pounds (from "More Than") is about as good as it is gonna get. Yes I may be older than you...but then again I may not :P I know about the Aux in socket - but I have the Creative Zen mp3 unit, and doubt that there will be any form of control of this via the simple jacksocket provided, and this means then having to use the players original pad or wired remote. I would rather load a pile of mp3s onto a DVD disk, but am unsure as to whether the unit will play them. I know it is mp3 compatible, but this may just be using cds, and although dvd films will play soundtracks whilst on the move, these are not normally in mp3 format.Anyone actually got the mm pack and tried dvds full of mp3??

  21. Nope, needs to be all the way up. Might have to get busy under the car one weekend and see where the switch is. It may be a bit more smarter than that though and be based on the fact the wheels are moving, plus handbrake..... ← have an auto due in march...and this does not have a handbrake ( foot style thingy like the merc ) Wonder if any hacks that are likely to appear here will affect the warranty?? Would be a good mod though - will keep looking in forums for ideas to circumvent this "safety feature" :)
  22. What does that mean? ← No plans for a 250 Diesel - just a 220 ( IS220D) and unfortunately lexus have decided in their "wisdom" not to do an Auto box option on the new Oiler:-(
  23. Apolgies for posting this as a new topic - but it kinda is really! Earlier posting "counting the days" strayed off into discussions re: Price / Discount. I was pointed to a website "drive the deal" which appeared to offer the same spec car for 1300 pounds less, the "catch" was twofold 1) No P/Ex 2) Supplying dealer was 200 miles away from me. So..armed with the info I rang back to my Chester dealer, and after 5 phone calls and arm twisting, obtained "free" Supaguard treatment interior and exterior + First years service free + Rubbery liner thingy for the boot. Not the deal of a lifetime I know...but I also still get to P/Ex my 10 yr old Eunos for approx £500 more than its true value, I deal with a local dealer ( nice ..just in case any problem arise ) and overall I value the total package at around 900 - 1000 pounds discount. Thanks for relaying your experiences and the link to the website concerned.....It proved a useful lever in extracting the blood. I remain....like a 5 year old......waiting in excited anticipation of my luvverly new 250 SE L auto, mm pack, blackand grey, sunroofed beauty in March 2006
