  1. Don't forget you're free car wash, newspaper and coffee (and sticky cakes if you're lucky) on a saturday morning :) You're also probably get some golfing days and occasionally the odd pub crawl session (at dealer's expense). I have to say that despite the shortcommings in my IS220d, Lexus Poole have always made me feel good about owning a Lexus. 100 mile exactly round trip to my dealer - to have some bloke with a jet wash lance blast my lovely paintwork...I dont think so never read newspapers - get all the news I need on the radio / tv Golf is a good walk spoiled - not all lexus owners are golfers - some of us actually have more interesting and fun hobbies :D Pub crawl - I dont do pubs - they stink, and the food is usually crap, and alchohol is overrated. 33k is very expensive coffee and cake :o
  2. So your diesels are experiencing gearbox problems now? And the handbrake is US ? And it seems that it is normal for the car to soak your clothes and seats after rain? Not hearing much to bring me out of my depression, 1 post here even claimed that he was given a glass of fine wine during his marvellous oval room handover experience, :duh: I know that you say "on balance" it is better than the competition, but I still feel disappointed about these issues, and no amount of future pampering by the dealer ( not that I expect any anymore ) will compensate for the poor handover experience. Even if I moan again to the dealer principal about it, and he grovels and tries to make amends....it is too late. It would only be getting done because I complained, again, and the point is I didnt want / expect to have to complain about anything. To rub salt in the wound, I keep getting glossy booklets and paraphenalia from lexus that keep telling me how their mission is to exceed all expectations, and how driving and owning a Lexus is so special, the customer is absolute king etc. I dont feel special. Maybe I am just too damn demanding, that is the cross I bear being a perfectionist. What car should a non millionaire perfectionist buy then?
  3. I forgot the point about the A pillar Also my rear view mirror vibrates - and I'm a petrol head Does anyone else suffer the dripping water problem from the doors? I reckon in their pursuit of low drag, they forgot to check that the fit lines / shapes actually work from a human point of view. Another thing I thought might influence peoples state of "grumpiness" - who has actually paid lump sum of their own money for this car? I drove company vehicles for many years, a friend of mine has recently "bought" an S type, but as a "company vehicle" via his own business, and many people are leasing etc. This is the first ( and probably the last ) time I have ever bought a brand new car, and a pricy one at that, and I can't help feeling that this makes me more likely to find fault with it. The colour, although gorgeuos, is a pig to keep clean - one short trip in the rain, and the lower half of the car is filthy. I was awake a lot last night worrying that I had done another rash thing in my life....I have done a few I am afraid
  4. Sort of a diary I suppose, but not sure how long I will keep it up ( careful now :winky: ) Well I collected my new toy last Saturday, and had been expecting some sort of special attention / procedure would be Involved. Don't ask why I thought this.....I guess it is just because of the whole supposed "lexus experience", reputation, the 33k of my hard earned cash that I had just paid out in a single cheque, and the fact that I had previously spotted a seperate room with a sign on the door reading "handover room" - I had asked about this, and was told "Yes, when you collect your vehicle we will use this facility". The main sales manager had also stated in earlier letters to me that he was looking forward to "being involved" in my collection experience. Well, frankly, - it was a let down ( It was a nice surprise for me however - see earlier thread) I was taken into a salesman's office ( the salesman who had been dealing with me since day 1 was off sick) asked to sign a registration form.....and the next I knew, the car was driven around to the front of the showroom. The same salesman then spent about 15 mins parked up going through some points about using the car. I asked acouple of questions - (to which he had not got an answer), and that was it "enjoy the car sir. goobye" in so many words..... Never even got a look in the mysterious "handover room", never saw the sales manager or anyone else. Had to ask for a coffee, and then wait while the salesman cleared the dirty cups away from the table, and not even a biscuit Wifey and I set off for London for the weekend, and our IS experience began.... Impressions so far 1) It is a nice car...but then so were the BMWs and Mercs that I had as company vehicles 2) The MM system is not worth the money - for the following reasons..... The POIs are crap. Not a single fast food joint included in the entire list. I am not a big burger eater, but when all you want is a toilet break and a coffee - the golden arches hit the spot. No BK, Pizza hut, McD, KFC. But of course a large list of useless things like "schools" ?? Who the heck needs a list of schools nearby? Surely the only school /s you need to know about are ones you have an interest in, in which case you know where they are! The command "nearest fast food" is recognised by the system, but to no avail at all, as there are NO fast food establishments in the database!! How :tsktsk: stupid. I find the ML audio system good, with a nice sound, but no better than any good Pioneer /Kenwood / etc . Menu transition and commands using voice recog is labourious, the parking camera is over complicated, with green lines, red lines, curvy lines etc etc. :o but the real let down for me is the crappy data in the sat system - apart from the food / restaurants as mentioned, I also tried "nearest cinema" and was directed to a palladium cinema in the next town 4 miles away which has been a wetherspoons pub for over 6 years! I was actually parked outside a multiscreen complex at the time, and this "did not exist" Rubbish, very disappointed. 3) It was rainig today, and as we parked at Tescos to shop, when we opened our doors, both of us got soaked with water dripping off the tops of the door apertures, which continued to drip onto the new leather seats after we exited - whats that all about then in a 33k car??? 4) Road noise is quite high ( bridgestone shod) on any but the smoothest of tarmac. 5) Why oh Why did they fit the catch / handle for the "ski hatch" in the small boot, on the boot side?- I can only just reach in and operate it - the small wife has no chance It would have made so much more sense to have operated it from the back seat side instead. 6) I have started to try and work through the manuals for both the car and the MM but they are not well written /translated. I was also given a CD which was supposedly to fully explain the MM system, but firstly, - it doesnt play on the in car unit !! and secondly when I fired it up on my PC, it was rubbish. No sound, just a few silly graphics, and brief overviews of things which I already knew from the original brochure, or regular quick start booklet.PLUS it also has erroneous data IE: "paddle shift the gears up and down of the 5 speed auto box" dont know about others, but mine is a six speed 7) So all the important functions for each driver setting are memorised in the system ? Seat, overtaking mirrors ( incorrectly named rear view mirrors) and steering wheel position. What about the interior mirror???? Wifey has to change that every time she drives, and so do I upon my return. Anyway.....rant over for now...suffice to say it has not been the superb experience I was hoping for, and the car / dealer is leaving me distinctly underwhelmed so far, especially as I waited over 7 months for it. Very disturbingly I find myself thinking....have I made a wrong decision with this car choice? I remember being very impressed after the short test drive in the 320d - certainly from a "drivers" point of view anyway. Lovely colour, technically impressive, but "could do better" Lexus are still "pursuing perfection" in my book, and have some way to go yet ! I shall be writing to Lexus GB.
  5. "but I am currently using the microfibre and the Lex spray that came with the car..." Hmmm, lucky you. I got diddly squat with my collection The Expansys protector mentioned during your original thread seems to have gone, so I will try the other suggestions above - thanks guys. J - if you are still thinking of getting one, perhaps we could share the order or whatever ?? T
  6. One thing that comes standard on all the new IS models whether its petrol/diesel/sport/se/sel - u guessed it..Rattles! You cant take that away, its company inbuilt. I clocked 10000 miles on my SEL and it had rattles from day one. I eventually traded in and got the Sport version (Apr 06). Its lot better though, but still rattles every morning - reminding me of Gill, Steve, Andy, Mike and the list goes on.... I do not think that Lexus has solved this problem, they promise every new customer that its rattle free. That said, I am happy with the car and have learnt to live with it.....Lesson 1 - Never buy a car (new model), even if its a Lexus! For the records/survey - yes, my SEL had severe rattles. The Sport is much better with minor rattles. Javeed Anoither rattle free IS owner here.....OK I know we have only done 1k miles...but fingers and all else crossed - later models ( mine delivered 22nd July ) are sorted :winky:
  7. I seem to recall some menton of a screen protector gizmo to stick on the touch screen panel for things like PDAs and so on ? I would like to get something for the MM screen in my car - any links/suggestions etc ?? TY :D
  8. Yes I know overall it is a good system, but as we know, they could have made it "great" PS I thought the dreaded R***les had started this morning on the supermarket run ...turned out to be wifey shaking her tic tacs at me LOL
  9. I have tried the "I'm Hungry" and it does work. However, like you say, McDonalds do not appear to have affiliated to this version of the software... Whats strange is that some of the more expensive restaurants do appear on it - maybe they don't want to see Lex drivers eating at McDonalds.... [ It works for me, but like Jamboo says, it doesn't show any fast food outlets; apparently the American DVD does - says it all really! Something I do like is the flag that is displayed for the type of restauarent; french, italian, japanese etc. It's a nice touch. Yes I know the command "works"...its just that if, as is the case, it does not actually result in any such information being actually returned then it renders it useless. I can't believe that mcdonalds are not included in the database ( besides someone says they had a return of several Mcds - (when sitting outside a BK tho ) so they must be included? I am not a fan of Mcds as "restaurants" but when you are on a journey, and just need a drink or an ice cream they are fine, if not pretty well mandatory I have seen the fancy flag for french restaurants and the like...but frankly this is just gimmicky and not giving me the info I really want / need. Nope.....so far my old Tom Tom is winning this particular contest, AND of course I can input loads of different POI databases that people have compiled and made available on WWW. AND...I can sit at home and plan my journey beforehand, AND I can change my routes etc whilst moving, AND - I had better shut up before wifey reads this and questions me again why we spent over 2k on this MM thing. :duh:
  10. There is indeed. I have it on my machine at home. I can't remember the name of it rigth now. Something like "DVD Backup" Will allow you to "Backup" any DVD and remove the region set up. You will need a Dual Layer DVD burner to fit most films with their menus and extras onto one disk but you can backup just the move without the menus and most films will then fit on one disk. However films with a lot of CGI stuff like King Kong will have to be split across two disks. "DVD shrink" do a google for it.... its free too !
  11. Thanks pal :) PS has anyone actually used " Im hungry" command and been correctly told of restaurants nearby ? I have also now tried the " nearest fast food" command several times in different locations and still get NONE - seems a complete waste of time to me - very disappointed
  12. 3 years !! crikey, thats poor. My 18 month old Tom Tom 700 picked up every one of them
  13. This nanny MM system is a bit frustrating, and the sat nav - although good at actually directing, just doesnt seem any bloomin use at all for things like finding restaurants etc? IE we are parked in a huge retail park at Chester yesterday afternoon, surrounded by KFC, Mc, Pizza hut, and BK. Speak to girly " nearest fast food" she replies " no fast food restauarants in vicinity" WHAT??? I am lookin at the golden arches as she speaks !! Software version of data disk says 2006. and this place has been here ages ! Anyone know the link to the old threads about "hidden commands", and all the other controls that people have found. I am finding it somewhat mind-numbing trying to get my head around all the buttons and knobs
  14. click the thumbnails Ivan there is not much more to see on the console really than in this picture. Just a load of buttons down each side of the mm screen, and slot for the 6 dvds. what the heck is :LPA800 sensors? my SEL MM has the rear view colour camera, and front sensors too.
  15. The pearl effect varies depending upon lighting, but yes - it is very pearly :D I had the full supaguard treatment at the dealer as part of the deal, so no polishing / waxing for a while I think ? Only got one piccy of interior, so here it is ( sussex grey leather )
  16. Some more pictures :D :D URL=http://img505.imageshack.us/my.php?image=front1is3.jpg]
  17. Just received our new toy on saturday, here are a few pics :D
  18. The "Mods" have started early.... And there I was thinking your wife had imported the face Lifted version for you... :winky: Tip - next picture - try using the "Link For Forum (2)" - it might post a bigger picture (I can never remember which one gives a bigger shot) - then we can all google at the fantastic colour some more... Looks great matey - bet you 'ain't stopped smilin' yet! And how good is that auto box? VERY good :D sorry :winky: seriously though....i have driven auto boxes for around 25 years and this is the smoothest one yet - and 6 cogs as well !! I have played a little with the "clarkson flappy paddles" but I doubt i will be switching from normal "D" setting much. Average fuel consumption over the 800 miles so far is 33.6mpg, which considering the mix ( approx 75%Mway 35% A/B roads) is Impressive - especially as I am not known for my light right foot :winky: I touched 120mph briefly yesterday, and over weekend was regularly at 90 sorry officer...I just didnt realize, cos its sooooo quiet. 19. Tell him to just get a 250, the fuel economy isn't that different, but the petrol version is so much more refined :winky: amen to that
  20. First time ive noticed a V6 badge on the O/S rear is that usual, and is the GB badge your addition? Nice Colour Infinity.....V6 badge was a souvenir "left over" from my P/ex :-) GB badge was also my addition Thanks :-) Yep....although I am also a bit scared of it too....leaving it in car -parks etc :o
  21. Hi there, and welcome. I have only just picked mine up this weekend (Saturday) and have now done 842 miles. No rattles, but a few niggles....I will start another thread though...just wanted to say hi :D
  22. Thanks for all the comments guys Wifey got a superb bouquet of flowers from the dealership this afternoon, but I got diddly squat having washed it this morning after weekend trip ( mainly dead bugs and the like ) our trip today ( 140ml ) means more meat to clean off agin tomorrow....not sure how long this love and attention will last Anyhow....heres a few more piccies, the pearlescent effect is really only evident "in the flesh", but I have included a close up which I think shows it to quite good effect. This is definately NOT just a white car :D Also, I have attached one of my other money pit....I had to as it was quite visibly crying with jealousy and feeling neglected today...so this is just to say " I still love you too Hawkey " Do you think I should post the IS pics in the section dedicated to pictures as well? - dont want to get flamed for cross posting or whatever the breach of protocol may be
