  1. A plan. £216 fully comp, protected NCB me and wifey 250 SEL garaged But I'm an oldie too :D :D
  2. This is the Lexus owners club - not a Lexus fan club. Why is it hard to compare the cars ? I test drove all the usual suspects, and I do not see why it is harder to do comparisons of this situation, than comparing any other major purchase. Jamboo, this is bad news, especially as the salesman specifically told me that the IS would hold its value better than the 3 series I was gonna buy - perhaps I have a case for misrepresentation of facts I always knew that a new car would hurt my pocket, and had hoped that I would be keeping the Lexus for many many years, so did not worry too much. I think it reinforces my feelings that I will NEVER buy brand new again....just exactly what are the reasons for doing so ??? PS what happened to the Lakes trip matey?
  3. So did we...we're doing the Lakes instead...but that will be a wash out I fear too... How did you stop the "please say command after beep"? Hmmm...if I remember correctly it is in menu - setup - page 3 of 3 top line......"message talk back " OFF ( or something like that ) Done the Lakes many times....due again in September with the Hawke owners club PS - check out the car museum at the end of windermere....quite interesting :winky:
  4. split /folding rear seats voice command of sunroof ( why DO they call it moonroof?? ) coin storage - yes ( I use the ashtray with a little cloth bag to stop R****es ) Toilets / fast food joints in the POIs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ability to change destination while on the go - I can fiddle with all sorts of other things on the screen which is far more dangerous proper handbrake for the auto instead of silly footpedal ( my old Xedos auto had it so it can be done ) and most of what others have already said Oh yes ...and better POIs in case I hadnt mentioned it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Hi Chips....It's getting on for two weeks of driving it now, and, well, it's ok.....Unfortunately it hasn't sent me over the moon in love like my IS 200's did (two of them), they have gone a lot more luxury saloon with this one, where as with the 200 I felt it was setup with the perfect mix of sporty and luxury, this one is total luxury. My fault for not testing the various incarnations of the car, but I went straight for the SE Auto, which was the equivalent to the IS 200SE Auto I had. Sounds weird to say that I am not over the moon with it, as there is nothing to dislike, I'd have just liked a bit more of a driving experience, which I feel the 200 delivered but the 250 doesn't. Anyone else feel like this, or is it just me? Yep ... I do
  6. Hey thanks for the tip, didn't realise you could do that! Just been out and turned mine off too! :D she does get a little annoying after a short while huh ? I wish they had included alternative voices, I actually use a male voice on my Tom Tom, 'cos we all know woman can't read maps :winky:
  7. Apologies if prev. post sounds mixed up. I originally orderd my granddads car the Lexus IS220 diesel SE MM for him, 2 weeks later I ordered my self a IS250 AUTO SE MM! Dealer gave an excellent discount for continued custom. So they are not actually both yours then...only the 250 ? Also...which dealer is giving "excellent" discount for continued custom? and how much ?? My dealer told me when I purchased that NO lexus dealers give discount on the new 250 :-(
  8. Why did you bother ordering a 220 if you found your grandads car so difficult to drive ?
  9. Decided to pass on the scotland jaunt - weather looks C**P. However, have been running about in lexy quite a bit in the last few days, and have just returned from a run around snowdonia today, and have to say that the car / drive is beginning to grow on me :) Have found that Mrs voice control ( nanny ) responds better to "double map" rather than "dual map" - I am wondering whether anyone knows if she has any learning capability - or is it ( as I suspect ) just word recognition matching words in database? Some commands she just completely cocks up Have turned off the " please say command after the beep" message, now I want to know if it is possible to stop her announcing what she is about to do everytime - and JUST DO IT ! Fuel consumption now shows overall average of 29.3, and tank average of 28.6. Nearly all mileage done since last fill up ( yesterday ) has been around our local mountain roads, with NO d/c or m/way. Finding this colour very difficult to keep really clean, basically it is dirty after every trip - St Lucia pearl fans beware :duh: Glad to say no rattles, except for VERY slight noise which we have identified as the sliding panel that covers the sun /moon roof - when this is slid right back it can be heard ...but it is really very little, and may even just be new rubber seals squeeking. Pity that the voice command did not extend to "open roof ". No "fast forward" on the disc player ? holding track change buttons down results in disc change. Did someone say that there is a way to add your own POIs ? I have figured the "mark" thingy, and then added them as memory points, but that is different to POIs huh ? So....summary is "getting better". Funnily enough I had a "handover experience feedback questionnaire" yesterday from Lexus GB - so filled it in and sent it off -together with long letter stating the complaints I have so far with both customer service, and the car itself ( missing POIs , dripping doors etc ) so will be interested to see response ( sent to Steve Settle). Will keep you posted :winky:
  10. So lets see.....you are gonna have both? or is the 250 INSTEAD of the 220d?
  11. Rubber does deteriorate over a few years...a fellow member in our kit car club had a complete blow out of his front nearside on the outside lane of m6 - thank *** he was OK. The tyre had VERY good tread depth, ( car only averages 1500 M P year ) but was 7 years old. Goodyear confirmed with him that ANY rubber tyre should be replaced after 5 / 6 years age, irrespective of visual condition. As a result of this, myself and most other members changed our tyres immediately!
  12. well my Lexy is basically white :D ( st lucia pearl ) but my other car is Red :o ....so I am not sure how this theory stacks up. Also of course.....colour choice is not always possible - if you want a particular car then sometimes your choice is limited. PS I am a fast driver but consider myself an experienced, and "care-aware" driver ( 40k per year for almost 30 years during employment ).
  13. I guess altering the throttle on either "leg" would induce some sort of crude yaw control for direction. Yhese small turbines are increasingly popular in the R/C model flying world...however still expensive ( relatively) :D
  14. I live in Wales - rain is mandatory. have just retirned from 1200 miles trip to france / belgium / holland and back - in my Hawke Kit - Car. It performed faultlessly, and was great fun to drive, as it always is. Can't say why, but just wasn't particularly excited about getting into the lexus this morning for the shopping run....and I wanted to be Can't put my finger on it....but it just lacks "soul" and I remain underwhelmed. maybe doing a Scottish tour next week, and will take Lexy, so watch this space for a report :winky:
  15. Almost every other new IS owner .............. rattle this, rattle that !! That's all I see on these forums these days !! Well there certainly seems to have been a few rattles thrown out of prams.... Ha ha ...I like it
  16. Hi Brian and welcome. I hope you continue to enjoy the car. PS - how was the "handover" did you get treated like a king in the oval room etc ?
  17. Hi Brian, thank you for your reply, I was getting worried there that you I and were fallng out As I said, it is a lovely car, and I guess / hope that time as usual will lessen my dissapointment. Off to France, Belgium, Netherlands for a long weekend tomorrow, so you will have peace and quiet for a few days ....In THE OTHER CAR ! .....see linky. PS we are guests at the Antwerp kit car show, otherwise we would have used Lexy honest :D PS its one of the many other fun things this boring old fart likes to do instead of golf, and boozing. LOL
  18. At the end of the day, dealers are dealers. They are there to 1) Make money 2) Hit targets 3) ....erm....serve customers to make even more money Probably in that order I had "higher than received" expectations too... but I also hear from several people that they have a wonderful experience each and every time. Jamboos dealer theory (for a bit of banter): very few salesman have only ever sold a Lexus. They come from more humble marques - to name 3 - Ford, Vauxhall, BMW... so treat every customer as a cash cow many dealerships (if not all) are owned by larger franchise holders - i.e. they also sell Fords, Vauxhalls, BMW... The head therefore deals with customer bases with differing expectations and demands, but will no doubt drop to accepting an "average" across the board So they get all defensive when you complain...and sometimes make you feel you're demanding the earth. It'snot often you spend so much cash, knowing it'll be worth a fraction of that in a few years...just some humanity and genuine empathy would be good... PS - I also agree with you that the "experiences of all owners" make it a more worthwhile place..and a very good forum!! I hope Lex take heed from here and listen to the customers...afterall without us where would they be? yes mate...you are correct I feel about the dealer scenario. Why is it then that if lexus "the company" are so adamant that customer satisfaction is their top priority, they hand out franchises to such dealers. Surely they should better control who is the face of lexus in all parts of the world, with more exclusivity, and not just "the highest bidder / biggest players"? I apologise for going on about this - as it obviously bothers some members that I am actually dissatisfied, but I thought I was buying into something special....and I just haven't had it I am not saying that this is not a fine car - it is - but it just aint really special. I can only compare from experience of other cars I have "owned" and I am afraid that to date nothing has quite given me the feeling that I got the first time I drove away in my E300, many years ago. I know that merc have dropped in the league of late, but in those days. that 3 pointed star gave me the buzz. The car was bulletproof, it felt solid ( so does lexy ), everything worked every time, and no recalls were ever issued as far as know. My car was always valeted thoroughly during service, courtesy cars were always available, I got offered a hospitality golf day ( which I actually attended and finally convinced myself that golf "clubs" were for snobs ) and all in all it just hit the spot for me. I truly believed that, and wanted the Lexy, to do the same for me, and it hasn't. Before you all say "then go buy a merc /beemer and stop moaning" - I have actually listened and watched what is said about these marques these days, and decided that Lexus based on reputation and survey etc was the one to beat. I accept that the real person to blame is probably me for not having insisted on having the car for a weeks test experience before falling in love - used my heart instead of my head ! I noticed recently that one manufacturer was offering such a test drive ( Vauxhall?? ) and with hindsight 1.5 hours, with a salesman in the back seat, driving around familiar roads was insufficient. I hate to say it, but I doubt I would have gone for it had I had a weeks trial. :o
  19. As notified in earlier threads, I HAVE complained to the dealer, and written to Lexus GB, over issues I experienced prior to collecting the car - way back in February in fact. I am NOT a person who just complains to all and sundry, yet not the management. Having spent over 30 years in the retail food sector, I think I know how to deal with complaints - from both sides of the table I always complain in a professional, courteous, yet firm manner. I also ensure that I speak with the manager responsible, not junior staff. I, like others here believe that the vehicle has issues that are frankly not acceptable for a £30k+ car, and my own experience of pre-sale, and handover has been dissapointing. My response to customer complaints during my working life was both immediate and relevant, believing that the the customer is indeed king, and did pay all our wages. The complacency and apathy that exists today amongst so called service industries is often disgraceful. I have worked harder to ensure a satisfied customer following a complaint about a measly tin of beans at 30p than lexus have for my complaints so far. If satisfied owners object to me and others illustrating both sides of the story ( and yes I have said positive things about the car if you care to check my other posts ) then the forum will turn into nothing more than a lexus fan club.
  20. you sound like an interesting chap LOL. You are misquoting me - my gearbox is possibly one of the few with issues - they happen on a new model, no matter how much testing and I have confidence it will be sorted - it is a minor issue. The dealer never asserted the handbrake was the owners fault, and they are reporting all faults to Lexus. The wine I was given is given to all customers and is in a presentation box, from the dealer principle along with the IS keyrings, the discount voucher book etc. They also operate the Saturday wash club which I won't use as I was my car meticulously myself with specific stuff - but I still appreciate it is there in the name of customer service and maintaining a relationship. I am sure I am not alone in having a good handover experience and I don't apologise for having one. At the end of the day - the sales side of a dealer is almost irrelevant when it comes to owning a car, as long as the car is good and the after sales is excellent - much more important to me. I'd buy my car from a car supermarket if I could gaurantee great after sales, even at another place. That is why I bought my car from the branch I did. They have not let me down. If they did I'd get over it and move on. Life is too short. Brian. Brian, I was not quoting you alone....Jamboo was suggesting that they need to look at his gearbox also, and it was jamboo who mentioned the dodgy handbrake also. Who is asking you to apologise for your good handover? I am pleased for you, but it does go to show that dealer service and attention to detail varies considerably across the country. If lexus are so adamant that customer satisfaction should be tops, then maybe they should exercise better controls and standardization across said dealers. It is your opinion that the sales side of a dealer is almost irrelevant, but that is certainly not mine. Glad also that they have not let you down, but they have let me and others on this forum down, to the point where one regular and balanced individual was trying his damnest to return the car for a refund as he was so unhappy. I wonder if you would be so relaxed if you had NOT had the excellent experience you seem to have had, and be able to "get over it". Please dont tell me how short life is, having just suffered a deep personal loss, I know only too well thank you. I do NOT want to get into a heated exchange, I am merely relating MY experiences to the forum, and have avoided getting personal in my remarks.
  21. cheeky b****r :-) I am actually a very fun loving YAH 55 yr old. It is just that at the moment I am feeling deflated with my Lexus experience, and exhibiting all the signs of grumpy old manhood, in case you hadnt noticed :-)
  22. Hmmm the skateboard one reminds me horribly of my experience with these bloody contraptions. Back in '66 when skateboardswere first around ( yes thats right you boy racer guys - they are NOt new :winky: ) I was on my homemadeplank with skate wheels screwed on ( very high tech you know :D ) and decided that the VERY steep hill with TRAMlLINES down it ( ask your dad ) would be cool. S**t it was fast, and at the bottom it crossed a main road !! - The only way I was gonna avoid hitting the ford side valve popular was to jump ship. It was Christmas eve and A and E was very busy, but at least my full left arm plaster cast got well signed over the holidays :D :D
  23. And then answer at least two more questions before the bl**dy woman actually dials it for you ! Much quicker and easier to touch the screen...and that another thing, why don't we get a choice of voices - she is really gonna get on my t**s soon. Sorry.....I am "having one" you know !! On the light switch there is a mode called auto, set it to that and the lights will come on at start, turn off when you park and leave your car. Only when its dark, I think he means daylight running lights like the volvos ?
  24. Congrats mate...looks nice, I only hope your dealer experience and satisfaction with the car is better than mine
