  1. Don't worry about the beer Ray, folk will just think that you are becoming a little incontinent...
  2. He's changed his signature... When he first arrived form the Fisher Price owners forum it read that his car had done something like 130000k miles..... I was most impressed
  3. Good job you didn't have a face full of choccy cake too.....
  4. Which one would you like me to drive? my 230bhp diesel van, one of my two old 4 litre Jeeps or my Is 200 manual? all of which are very well maintained and I choose to own for their various merits.....My view is that the cars that peope chose to own should be robust enough for them to last without high maintainance costs... Unfortunately there are those who buy these money pits without realising the costs that will be involved when their fragile little gearboxes let go... The IS is a very robust machine, simple to maintain and repair and therefore in my opinion a very frugal car to run. It requires no exotic lubricants, special servicing down loads or special tools...I can't really think of a car that would suit me as well.... I think that you need to read what is written.
  5. Well that is not really true..... You can select any forward gear at any time at any speed..... It is just not advisable. This is where you need to think about what you are doing.....Hmm Perhaps you are best off with an Auto
  6. And??? Just think how much better and more fun your car would be with a six speed manual rather than a point and squirt.... Electronic gearboxes may be the future as far as the manufacturers are concerned they will empty the drivers pocket at every repair and that is good for profits.... Unfortunately you swallow the guff that you find on these shows that you post and this highlights how naive you are
  7. As has already been said, SMGs, DSGs and the like are a great marketing tool for people like you who think that numbers on a website are the be all and end all....They are also a super way of extracting money from the car owner or getting an otherwise servicable car off the road and into the breakers yard so that you have to buy anothe new car....The VAG DSG system is great when it works, costs a fortune to service and when it fails it is more cost effective to scrap the car....These trinkets are marketing tools... ECUs are intelligent? Well maybe next to you they are...They take the data given, process it and then act upon the outcome....No intelligence there and definately no original thought.. But the IS gearbox is an old system and still relies on a torque converter... Tough, reliable but hardly ground breaking or efficient...Great for those who can't co-ordinate their hands and feet..Or brain....
  8. I like to feel that the rear wheels are attached to the engine by something more than pancake syrup...For a small car, there is no substitute for a manual gearbox..... Assuming you can operate one.
  9. 5. Most posts have been constructive in this thread. Mine haven't.....But then I like teasing kittens with laser poiners too
  10. Ah, that's better.... I now have my reading glasses on Knobby..
  11. Knobby, I've had an IS300 and sold it 'cos I didn't like the gearbox....Autos in small saloon cars are fine for women the elderly and the terminally baffled but I would like a manual in an IS300, sadly that means that in this country I would have to build one....
  12. My IS is one of the last made and is an SE but the suspension does seem to be much stiffer than other SEs... My pal recons it is as stiff as his M5.....Despite me having a glass back, I do like the firm ride and I don't find it uncomfortable and the seats fitme perfectly, but then I am a funny shape... I don't miss stuff like trip computers, they only depress me by letting me know that I am 30 mins late and my fuel consumption is in single figures though I do quite like the sat nav... The only thing that I would like would be a ford style heated windscreen. Other than that the IS suits me fine....
  13. Crossland filters are good filters, can't really comment on the other makes.....Just to add, the gearbox and axle oils should be changed every 20k miles too if they haven't been done...
  14. Pah! Knobbie and his IS could leave an E39 M5 for dead.... Do you know nothing? I can understand you not getting on with your IS, I have always said that they are a bit Marmite but it suits me perfectly as there is only me and the beloved so there is loads of room for her shoes... Next to the Cherokee though, the IS is positively frugal
  15. Ray if you park them closer then you could get another couple on there..... I think that you need a Jeep in your life, it just so happens that I have a couple on my drive that may fit...
  16. That's a figment of your imagination.... It doesn't really exist
  17. Nahhh.... It's not really snow..... No snow since January, we know that because Knobby said so and we all know that he is always right...
  18. Ho hum...Four figures on an 11 year old car for a stamp that adds nothing to its value.... :eerrrmm:
  19. Well the logical thing to do would be to service it yourself, the IS is a very simple car to work on..
  20. 75 quid for someone to tell you that you what you don't need to know.....Phuck me!, pull thos trousers down kiddo
  21. Just weld them shut Ray..... Problem solved. :hocus-pokus:
  22. Isn't it past your bed time?.... You have school in the morning.
  23. Just got home fom Yorkshire, someone has painted the M62 white..... It can't be snow 'cos Noddy sais that the Winter is over.... He's never wrong
