  1. thanx guys. am just hoping now it is this coil pack problem.

so there are 6 separate packs?? also my car is a 1999 se- read somewhere about obd 2 code reader being used on all cars after my2000? will mine have this system?

Yes 6 coil packs mate. your car will be ok for the code reader :D

Sorry didn't know there was a way to diagnose the issue electronically! Well there isn't over in Ireland for Altezza's, its just the ol' trial and error procedure!

  2. any body got any more info on this topic? same symptoms have happened to mine tonight. is there any way i could test the coil as problem above? as dont really wanna shoot in the dark on this coz am currently not working.

Take the coil packs out and physically examine, for signs of damage. Dont buy one secondhand just asking for trouble. buy one and them replace one at atime until u find the bad one

  3. Thanks for the great advice. Thought it was over-priced. Was going to shout 9k + a 1999 Fiat Punto in good knick.

We'll see if that car is genuine though.

Know a bit about Lexus, am on my third LS now and love them.

Am torn between a Turbo Subaru Forester or this Lexus. Both hard to find in an Auto in Ireland.

unfortunately cars cost more in Ireland compared to most other EU countries because of the stupid Vehicle Registration Tax. You can get a 2002 one for similar money

Alternatively you could look for an Altezza Gita which is the import version of the sportcross, Remember the tax on a 3 litre will be 1500 a year!! :crybaby:

  4. no one else have any experience/thoughts about this??

is mat around at the minute?

wanting to get this sorted ASAP, due to delivery times etc

IS300 Arbs fit an Altezza i think and is200 arb's fit an altezza. pm dave @ Prolex he should know, always gets back to you sharpish

  5. I've got the TTE one which I got from Lexus Teesside a while back for under £50........not sure if they're still doing them for that price though........

I think this is better spoiler for the IS as the other one gives the rear of the car too much height imho.......

I got the same one of eBay for a 15 GBP delivered. Look identical to the TTE one if you cask me

Seems price has gone up since i got it

  6. Most coilovers use 1.9 or 2.25 inch spring diameters. meaning you can swap them for off the shelf items.

Have a look at demon tweeks and other performance places for ideas. Your likely to need professional need help choosing them unless you already know the standard poundage ratings that the existing ones have but even then, without experience it would be a trial and error process, too soft and it will bottom out over bumps or sit too low at rest with the weight on them.

The bonus with adjustble suspension (either fully adjustable coilovers or fixed height with adjustable shocks) is you can soften and stifen the ride to a certain extent with just the shock absorbers, so even with the springs they come with, if the shocks can be tweeked, you should find a suitable compromise of ride comfort, ride height and handling.

I think D2s have bounce and rebound settings for shocks, meaning thats even more adjustablitly, but also can make it more complicated to set up.

I have since highered the rear up a few mm and it seems to be a bit better. I'll try to adjust the dampening to make it stiffer at the rear so it doesn't bottom out under load as much i hope

  7. You would theoretically be able to change them but you would need springs designed for the coilovers (i.e. the same diameter) not all springs are the same size, the best thing to do would probably be to contact a company that supplies the coilovers and see if they have springs with different spring rates.

Cheers, don't think ill bother doing anything with the coilovers, probably just put standard shocks back on with lowering springs. Probably getting rid of the car soon so don't want o put any more money into it really!

  8. Cheers for all your comments! Ive decided to not go down the DVD player route and stick with a single DIN unit :shifty:

Ive come across this unit http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/08-NEW-PIONEER-DEH-P...1QQcmdZViewItem and it has everything that I'm after plus more, Its Pioneer and generally I think there head units have a nice sound to them but I'm surprised how cheap this one is! What do you guys reckon?

Its coming from Honk Hong so not sure if the radio will work over here, only place i can see it for sale is eBay

  9. Hi stav..

    really..? didnt know that.. :D

Do you happen to know if the TOM`S one on the prolex website ( appart from asking dave ) is covered in oil? i have heard that the oil can sometimes mess about with the MAF sensor?

Would it be an idea to reset the ECU after if i got one/

Had an Apexi induction kit on mine and have since changed to Drop in Apexi panel filter and its a lot better. Not sure if its cover in oil cant see this affecting the sensor. i think unless its the induction kit is mapped properly you won't see the full benefit of it and might actually lose torque, well mine was!

  10. hello mate very nice looknig car you have there and very rare if im right? where did you source the car from ...what mods did you do to get to 289 bhp...and do you have any future mods to do to the car?

    It's a "TOM'S" 280T (factory turbo-ed) :)

must be a good bit more available as 280bhp was the magic figure in Japan but i can't see them just making a turbo version thats on it's limits....

I'd say if it was running on 100 Ron fuel on the day it would have got better figures. slight pinking from only running it on 99 Ron the operator said so he eased off.

  11. Is it possible to replace the springs on aftermarket coilovers. just wondering if replacing the springs on my D2 coilovers would make them more comfortable for the quality Irish roads. Is there much of a difference between TTE and Tein springs?

Here's what the springs on them are like:

    dsc00288ez1.jpg

Most of the roads are travel on a daily basis have major roads works on them im afraid the huge potholes etc my do some serious damage to my coilovers

  12. I have them on mine, but are colour coded, see my signature. :)

Had a pair on mine, They aren't the best to be honest, the custom made ones,

    dscn0721ur1.jpg

Got these ones of fleebay, quality is so much better and the fit is perfect compared to the first ones

  13. The Veilside one is quite hard to find and i only know of 2 people who have them and thats myself and Jamie on here? They are made of titanium and very very light compared to the original system and a lot louder than most i've heard but does put a great smile on your face when you go through a village or a narrow street as it seems to shout out loud that your coming through  :D there is a company who has some in stock and i'll try and find it for you, another thought Jamie on here has a video of his on his car and some pic's of it just after fitting if you have a look here matey Jamie's lexus Link.

and here : for Jamies lex video:video

Hope Jamie doesnt mind me linking to his page :whistling: :o

I'll have to try and get a quick vid of mine at some point and some pic's?? :D

remember Aztec, the veilside will sound yotally different on a IS200 compared to the altezza. Ill try get up a short vid of the exhaust @ idle on mine

  14. Howya Pozzy

I've got a HKS system on my tez and the noise is savage, its got a tailpipe I can fit my shoe in so that shouldnt be a problem for ya, but the sound is good at low revs and brilliant at high revs. Only thing is the car came with the exhaust already fitted so I cant tell ya exactly what it is but I do know that its hks

Cant fault my HKS silent only time its silent really though is on idle. Love deep him when you put the foot down. Looks tasty too!

  15. No, its a misfire.

When sat with the car parked it misfires, as it does when actually driving. It failed the MOT because of ridiculously high emissions from the misfire as well.

I have tried researching the autobox fault code but cannot get hold of the autobox codes for the Altezza. If anyone has them or can point me in the right direction then please do so!

I tried calling the my friends at the local Lexus/Toyota garage to see what the IS200 autobox code 76 was - and it does not even have code 76 listed! The closest number they had was a 74 or 78, cant remember exactly, but that was for the Linear Solenoid.

I personally can't see how the autobox error code and the misfire can be linked, I think they are two seperate problems.

Any idea how or why a faulty MAF sensor would be causing the misfire?

    Thanks,

    Jon

As far as i know the Maf sensor monitors the amount of air coming into the engine and the temperature of the air, could be totally broken so the ecu doesnt know what to do . Not sure if this causes misfire. maybe take it out and give it a clean with electrical contact cleaner

  16. Hi everyone,

I am having a serious misfire problem with my 1999 Toyota Altezza with automatic (tiptronic) transmission and 3S-GE Beams engine.

I have already spent a hell of a lot of money trying to fix this problem.

    My problem:

My Altezza misfires badly below 3300rpm. The worst misfiring is between 2500 and 3300 but it seems to clear and pull like normal above 3300rpm. It's not like engine is on 3 cylinders, it seems to just be misfiring across all cylinders!

The is no engine warning light on the dash, however the green ECT PWR light flashes - and has been doing so for a long time.

The car does not appear to have any engine error codes stored when I short the terminals togther in the Diagnostics Box in the engine bay, however it does have a transmission error code 76.

I have already fitted the following brand new items to try to fix this problem:

    New ECU

    New Plugs

    New Coil Packs

    New Fuel Filter

    New Oxygen (Lambda) Sensors

If anyone has any suggestions as to what part to change next, or what could be causing this then please let me know! I was going to try to get hold of a throttle body with electrical components next and try swapping that over...

    Thanks,

    Jon

    Faulty MAF sensor?
