  1. You could try using snow mode which seems to help a fair amount.

Unfortunately the car isnt light and stop start traffic in a heavy car really does drink juice and there not a lot that can really be done about it unless you want to start stripping stuff out

  2. However for day to day problems of 7 year old cars the BM is much more troublesome and thus more expensive.

    And there lies the rub...

I owned a 2002 e46 for ten months. On the surface it was good buy but in reality I ended up spending 2K on repairs (big long list both mechanical & electrical) and then lost another 2.5K when I sold it on after it developed an oil leak from around the water pump.

As a coincidence I bought the Lex ten months ago. Since then I've paid €300 for a full service & €500 on a set of tires. If I sold it tomorrow I reckon it will have depreciated by about €1500. The only problem this car has had is Err3.

Both cars were/are of similar price, age, mileage, condition. Both had a FSH.

I know which I won't be buying again.

(BTW I love Beemers, have owned many and am planning on an e60 once the Lex gets the chop)

So you prefer the lexus so you will be buying a bm next

  3. Had a test drive in a 220d se this weekend as i dont want to be paying stupid tax costs next year in my 200. Spoke to the guy about the possible fuel and gearing issues then went out in it.

He was honest about the fueling issues explaining that Lexus had found a problem on the older 220d's and that there had been a recall issue and the new ones were ok.

He was also honest about the gearing in terms on what its actually designed for and that 6th is crap under 80 as it was a design feature.

Compared to the 200 it seemed a bit sluggish unless revved it wasnt as smooth but it also seemed more relaxed more go and less show compared to the 200 in fact when I got back in the 200 it felt slower even though it was smoother and more usable.

One thing I was a bit upset about was the heavier clutch on the 220d but it could be cause it was newer and that it was a diesel but will be something I can get used to.

As for the car loads of toys etc I will be considering it or at least the se-l + mm

Have arranged to get one for a day so the missus can drive it too however tbh I was quite happy I went into it expecting it to be unusable and bad on fuel but the clock said 35mpg which was round town stuff and although the gearing was different it is a diesel and so I expected and such.

Just to cap off it is a nice car it can be driven wants you get used to it and it will of course be different to the petrol engine all in all I can away feeling good about it and looking forward to having one for a whole day.

Oh and one more thing IMO its the only lexus available for someone that wants to save money and keep a manual gear box as I cant stand auto's. If your like me and still want to be involved in the drive rather than just let it drive you but dont want to spend hundred on tax next year give it a go I looked at the a4 and it felt too much like a vw, I refuse to pay BMW prices for extras that are standard on the lexus and the c class just looks ugly.

Please whatever you do dont dismiss it cause of what people say on here there were some bad ones to start with yes however I think theyve ironed out the wrinkles and its becoming a very satisfactory car

  4. would you be able to give me the settings, i have a good mate who is a mechanic at a tyre/exhaust centre. just that your a bit far for me to come down to you! hope i'm not being too cheeky!

    steve

You could always go to tdi north if thats easier

  5. I think when you guys read the articles, you must have missed out the small prints and the little *

what Rikos saying is correct! any IS200 registered before 1 march 2006 is 210.00 a year!

and who ever is saying that we need to pay over 400 quid a year in this topic needs to read the articles carefully not just the big numbers.

stop making us (the lexus owners) feel that sad.

quoted fro the budget this year

Table A.8a: VED bands and rates for cars registered after 1 March 2001 (graduated VED)

    1 2008-

In short anyone who has a post 2001 is200 will be paying 415 quid per year

  6. I was led to believe that the band g was only for cars registered after 06 and so anyone with an IS200 upto this point will pay the £210 a year. I know i'm paying my tax at the end of the month and it is still £210.

But the new budget will include anything made after 2001 so by by lexus

  7. There have been a few questions regarding MOT's and legal bits about fitting HID's well to set all minds at rest,

Lexus Poole have just MOT'd my 2005 is200 with the HID conversion kits installed.

The beam pattern did need to be adjusted however they did so and it sailed threw its first MOT with no problems what so ever.

So on that basis if all else fails take it to a dealer they may charge a bit more but there where no problems or questions asked

  8. Morning All

It's been a long time since I posted, in the main due to trouble free motoring.

I currently have a 2000W se with SatNav with 92000 miles on

The warrenty runs out next month and to the best of my knowledge Lexus wont allow and extension due to the car being over 7 yrs old.

The dealer does have a 53 plate 200 Limited Edition, which apart from Coulour, HID & full leather looks the same as mine.

My question is what was the "LE" based on sport / SE and are there any other differences, apart from it doesn't have SATNAV

    Thanks in Advance

    Chris

It was based on the se I believe depending on cash you would be better off IMO getting an 05 model as you get all that (bar the hids) and sat nav with the cool lip spoiler too.

If however the sat nav isnt that important to you then the le is a well speced car
