  1. I think cars with Auto Trans seem to suffer with the spotted discs as people tend to sit with their foot on the brake while stopped to stop the car creeping forward. As the LS is such a big, heavy car even light braking will generate huge amounts of heat in the pads and discs, therefore, wearing them out quite quickly. It is just one of those things that goes with running a heavy, but fast car. Redsteve. Greetings Over the years I have had big auto's than anything. I also well remember being taught not to sit with the foot on the brake on an auto and never to sit with the clutch down on a manual or to slip the clutch to hold it on a hill. Similarly that applies to holding an auto on an incline. BTW I grew up in Sheffield where everywhere is on a hill! But B$ I get an off topic. Having had 3 Rover 827 autos ( and dont knock em, I had 1 crap 1 and 2 dreams) and the V6 was excellant..... digression again, there were quite a few posts about holding the car on the foot break and it was concluded that to do so did warp discs as well as putting strain on the breaking system. So there you are on a cold morning, engine on warm-up, aircon on etc etc. You are holding back a beast. Is it any wonder that problems occur. I almost always slip in to N or if necessary, P. So no doubt someone will say "why have an auto" Reply? Why arent all cars made this way? Was that a bit of a rant? In 35 years and maybe an average of 20k a year, never had warped discs. And on the subject (must be a rant) whilst learning to drive, I was told that never ever ever should I a) pull the handbrake so hard and never to pull it without pressing the button in. Next time you are in the supermarket carpark just watch whilst others try to pull the floor up click click click........... Then observe the ones that did earlier. These are the ones who cant get the handbrake off when they come back off holiday. Lesson. Dont hold the car on the brake unless you like servicing bills. I have 2 unconnected rants so might post them in a more appropriate place in due course. Ranting of Sleaford.
  2. Thanks Onwards towards advancement Steve
  3. Well Ive looked everywhere apart from the right place so maybe this will answer itself... I see that some members are described as "Advanced". As a "Retard" or non advanced member, what exactly does "Advanced" mean? How does one join this group? What are the benefits? Is it an intermediate stage between us and the clearing of funds to become a Gold member? Curious of Lincs
  4. Having now cured the heater issue, I conclude that the quarter mark on the gauge is indeed the new normal. Steve
  5. Hi Hope to have the new battery pack fitted tomorrow. Will report back. I also have instructions so if anyone needs them I will scan and attempt to upload or email Steve
  6. Hi If you still need these, try a pm to simontaylor. Steve
  7. Doubt you'd call a 3 series beemer a 'premium car' Maybe they were referring to the insurance :shutit: I have always had a dislike for small cars - the 3 Series falls into that category for me. The only small car that was any good (and I had 2 of em) was the original early mini which had the benefit of loads of space in the back, with the front seat tipped forward, thereby permitting pain free :tsktsk: Nuff said. Steve
  8. Hi I use Rain-Away on the windscreen (and the rest) which is brilliant especially when driving at night in the rain but it needs reapplying every couple of months so I would guess you have a permanant repellant. Steve
  9. Chaps My mate and I have been regular attendees at the 24 Hour races over the years. Its an amazing crack from the journey down to the camping, drinking, BBQing and er racing. We usually overnight Tuesday in Calais area, arriving at the track Wednesday t-time. Have a look here http://www.beermountain.com/ for a great flavour of what to expect. We are usually a party of 6 but for various reasons eg it takes place in early June when my boy is doing his Msc, we are down to 2 which wasnt an issue as my mate had us lined-up to go with Audi. It aint happening. If you are in a similar position, or have ever fancied going and would like experienced venturers to accompany you the 1st time; this is for you. We have all the kit, you only need a sleeping bag, clothes and a friendly outlook. In our view this is much better than a Grand Prix because there is the main race over 24 hours (night racing is amazing) but you arent stuck in one place; you can walk around and get different vantage points. Costs are shared as is cooking/washing-up. You up for it Steve
  10. No worries. Check that the alarm is working first. Use remote to lock and arm, then use key to open the boot. If alarm sounds, siren is fine. If not check that the siren is not turned off with the castlelated key. If no joy but fob works door locks/immobiliser then it could be the panic button itself. Take the fob apart and clean it, noting if it appears to be working. Reassemble and try again from various angles/distances. Steve
  11. The first thing I did when I got my car was to have the wheels refurbed. The guy made it absolutely plain that all wheel cleaning products contain acid and to NEVER use them unless I wanted to become a regular customer. Steve
  12. Hi again. If you go into "My Controls" at the top of the screen you can change your details. It might be worth taking a piccy of the remote and uploading it. Almost all the remotes are so old you would never read a manufacturer detail. There are quite a few pics of remotes that have been posted previously, search "alarm" again and have a look. You never know, half hour research and a battery might proove fruitfull. Steve
  13. Right Having spent forever Googling Scorpian 5000 alarm and getting no where I have come across this from our Landcruiser friends. http://www.tlocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.p...sc&start=15 It appears to indicate that the siren itself contains batteries and the inference is that they may dead hence no noise. Car looks like an igloo but in to the breach and all that.....
  14. The panic button doesn't even break into a nervous sweat. I bought the car from a chap who was on his last legs; he died within a very short time of my purchase. I actually took the car out on 3 occaisions, but as the remote worked and the security light came on, it never occured to me to ask. Steve
  15. Hi Ian No I havent as yet. I was hoping someone knew if there was a specific fuse and/or switch (other than the one on the siren itsself) so that I could check that out first. Whilst there are plenty of posts from folk with sirens that go-off on their own, there has never been any suggestion (that I can find) that says the siren can be turned off by means other than the castlelated barrell key. Steve
  16. Hi AdeV I only ever use the remote and irrespective of the position of the button, nothing has ever sounded. Steve
  17. Hi and welcome to LOC. Its helpfull if you add the year and mark in your profile so that viewers know which car you are enquiring about as they do differ between marks. From your other posts I am thinking you have a 1993 MKII. You will see that I have posted a new thread about the siren on my car. Before posting I searched "alarm" and whilst I didnt solve my problem, I'm almost sure that there is an answer that will help you. I think its to do with the fitting inside the door being dirty. Have a look. Did you only get keys or did you get a remote fob? Steve
  18. Hi Ive had good service from these guys Cheap Toyota Parts & Accessories 16 Sydenham Bldgs Bath Avon BA23BS United Kingdom +44 2081442373 payments@cheaptoyotaparts.co.uk Steve
  19. Evening all. During the day this wonderful site went down for "Database" issues. I have tried searching since it came back and even looking at my own posts and 1) Its steam driven, only slower 2) Its grouping posts together so that you have to click each one and it vvvvverrryyy slowly loads, rather than been able to scroll down the whole thread. What have I done Confused and concerned of Lincolnshire
  20. Infact, by removing the thermostat, you will lose no-end of coolant. If you follow the correct procedure when refilling it should eliminate airlocks. Given you cant squeeze the inside of the heater, it is the only way that my research says works. Steve
  21. I'm obviously in a mood for posting. Since I have had the Jan 95 MKIII, the alarm has never sounded. I have searched and read the results, but non of the posts actually said "and do this/that". I believe the system is a Scorpian with the clever bit behind the glovebox, which I have seen, and the siren under the bonnet on the back of the n/s wheel arch. Everything looks good, wires etc. The 2 button keyfobs both work correctly and the system arms (2 or 3 flashes of the indicators depending on where the slide on the fob is positioned) and the security light on the facia illuminates. Opening the boot sets the indicators flashing. There is no knob to turn below the bonnet release, however there is a single black button which makes no difference whether its in or out. (Or is it for something else?). Yes I do have 2 keys to turn off/on the siren and no, it makes no difference which position is selected, the siren does not sound. I appreciate from some of the postings I read, that those who's siren goes off at the drop of a hat, might like to swop but I would like to get to the bottom of why mine does not work Suggestions, as ever, much appreciated. Steve
