  1. Front n/s 16 1/4" Front o/s 16 1/2" Rear n/s 14 3/4" Rear o/s 15" I have to say that wasn't what I expected. I only have 1/4 tank of fuel & very little in the car or boot. I do have full towing electrics and bracket & the swan neck is always attached so I would guess that that would compensate for the weight of fuel. What I was expecting to find that the front was pretty much the same as yours & that the rear was lower. But what Ive got is the front 1/4 - 1/2" higher & the rear the same The problem I have is that the towing bracket is low & is particularly good at ploughing furrows where the arrival &/or departure angle is steep; multistory carparks & ferrys are a favourite & some sleeping policemen. Do I conclude that there is nothing wrong with the car; its just the towing bracket so live with it. Or have the rear springs softened and hence the greater height at the front (but then the distance is the same as yours). Any other contributions with measurements may well prove the point either way. One particularly good one would be from someone who has fitted new standard springs.
  2. Fleabay USA have them....Cheers Roy Hi Roy Since your post, I have failed to find any supplier here or on fleabay.com, althought there is 1 shop selling them for MKs 1 & 2. Do have any detailed info to narrow my search.
  3. Thanks Steve. thats great info. I will do the same and post the results. But tonight.
  4. Hi Steve The outer covering on my knob is pealing away. Will I need to scrape it or sand it :tsktsk: before applying the lotion? [seriously]
  5. OR, it could be that your rear springs have broken. Both mine were broken within 1 loop of the top of both springs, and the car seemed to sit about 2 inches lower than another car of the same year. I'm convinced it does sit lower, hence the desire for a measurement. However there is no visible evidence of a broken spring
  6. Does anyone know the standard ride height for a MKIII? What I need is the measurement fron the centre of the rear wheel to the wheel arch. I think the rear springs have softened, but would like to be sure. Tape measures out chaps, if you will so kind.
  7. If you have no proof of timing belt change, change it now! Every 60,000 is the recommended limit. I cannot see why a timing belt would be replaced after a minor shunt. These engines are beautiful; but not after the failure of a timing belt.
  8. Talking of springs, does anyone know the standard ride height for a MKIII? What I need is the measurement fron the centre of the rear wheel to the wheel arch.
  9. hi. I've done some searches but I can't find the thead. would you have an idea what the topic was, this would help. thanks, Jeff I think this is what sir john is referring to http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...&hl=springs
  10. Whilst you might find another Toyota model will have a compatible handle, I would have thought getting a colour match could be the bigger hurdle. There are a couple of guys on here breaking, so what is the colour you are after? Failing which, there are a number of breakers on fleabay with various coloured vehicles.
  11. All sorted: turns out the radar for the cruise control is behind the emblem on the front grille and can't work in snow or very heavy rain and spray. My car's not knackered after all! Cheers, Adi Blimey. Radar. And I thought there was a little man under the bonnet who pulled the cable to order. One lives and learns. Mind, my baby is a tad older. Dont suppose the new ones are all electronic, are they Mr Toyoda? Huh? One of my earliest cars (wasnt the Model T) was an original mini. If it rained it stopped due to the distributor being immediately behind the grill. Fixed with an empty loaf bag and a rubber band! No danger. No lane probs and no recall. Sir Alec wasnt summoned before the House. Oh and that was the car that :tsktsk: Nuf said.
  12. Hi It will almost definately be the battery pack in the siren. Before that, just check that its not turned-off use the barrel key. Assuming its not turned-off, you will need to take the siren apart. Take it off the bracket that secures it to the wheel arch or bulk head. Turn it over and remove the 2 screws which hold it together. Remove the end with the depression - carefully as this is the speaker which should still be soldered to the circuit board. Undo the plastic nut securing the cabe to the unit and free-off the cable grips. Being careful, push the cable in to the unit to push the circuit board out. Observe the slots in the unit so that you know how to reassemble. Look at the battery pack. Does it look dead/corroded? New one needed. If not, very carefully look at the circuit board to see if its damaged or wires have come unsoldered. These joints are delicate. Take remedial action as necessary. Assuming its the battery pack you will need part number 544-0188 from RS Components - Google it- which is a total of 6volts 1Ah which need the wires from the circuit board soldering to it.
  13. Dont ya just love posting....... I noticed today that the black trim(?) on the back door windows is tatty. The bit I refer to is at the bottom rear corner of each rear window and resembles black masking tape. There is absolutely no doubt that I have :tsktsk: it by scraping ice off the windows. The edges are ragged. Any ideas - all welcome - how I can recover the previous beauty?
  14. Hi yet again. I have seen somewhere very recently that gives the guidance as to how to remove the door card but I cant remember where. I thought I would have bookmarked it but nay can find it. It wasnt Toyo DIY. Please dont go outside just now to take a photo (at least bonnet wont fall on you if you do). Any ideas. I just want to service the inside of the door - it all works but there are noises.
  15. Yup, know what you mean. Fitted one new one the other day; they arent easy. Hope to do other when its its dry and warm - say 5 or 6 degrees. Above.
  16. Too :tsktsk: right. At the risk of repeating myself, it is designed to keep anything in you dont want on public display; it never did contain anything. And for those that have had a break-in, its a godsend.
  17. Just read that one again....thought it read "piles". I need to sit closer to the screen! Keep your specs in it!
  18. Thats the 1st time Ive even heard of that so thanks for the post. Of course, its now set me thinking "do I have the problem"? I top up the p/s fluid once a month due to the dreaded leak but this time of year clouds of white smoke are fairly normal. Or so I thought.
  19. Hi, I own a MK1 and the CD changer is on the right (drivers side) is this the left side? anyway not fitted in my Mk1 Dave Eight Once again too cold and damp to go out to check; but I recall it being on the drivers side.
  20. Interesting Steve Totally logical and I can confirm daughter thought it a good idea to try and stick the rear view mirror back with this result. Didnt realise at the time. Steve
