  1. Hi, sorry to read of this problem but I am not sure both the bulbs can fail some of the time and occasionally both together and yet work normally other times, my 450h lost one dipped beam (not sure if it went out more than once ) turned out to be headlamp control unit which was changed under the warranty. ( I would not listen to the price but thats why I extent the warranty every year) Recently saw the Sportcross N/S lamp go out when driving at night, stayed out for about a week while I sourced bulbs (some part as for the GS ) less than a tenner each but by the time they arrived by snail mail the lamp was working just fine and has stayed on ever since, the bulb supplier thought it might be the ballast failing but will have to wait and see(or not if its dark!)when it next fails. I have had Xenon lights on my cars for 400,000 plus miles and have never changed 1 bulb. I am trying to find where I bought these bulbs from and will let you know if I find the receipt. Regards Tony
  2. Good on ya ! I got a Alfa spider and 2 X Lexus and to be honest the Spider rocks ! it has soul, passion and character oh and other Alfa owners wave.
  3. What do you base that scaremongering on ? The use of a additive kit ( Flashlube or better still VAP valve saver ) will ensure many miles of trouble free motoring. I can show you a Lexus RX 350 with nearly 70000 miles of gas use and no valve problems. I fitted LPG to my 2003 GS300, in less than a year (50,000 miles) it twice burnt the valves out and yes it did have flashlube fitted, cost me a fortune and ruined a good car. Previously ran a V6 Omega on LPG which covered 200,000 with only some dramas, but Lexus engines don't like it. Never again for me but hope you get away with it, my engine would not idle on gas nor re start once stalled meaning I had to get out and push it off the road and often would cut out at speed, lane 4 of the M25 is hard to forget! Cost me many times what I could have ever saved and I was caught between the LPG installer and Lexus both blaming the endless faults on the other.Complete nightmare !!!
  4. Yes should reset about 10 times before it burns the exhaust valves out !
  5. Hi, I have had 2 sets of tyres and the odd puncture repair on my 450h all performed by Apex Tyres of Peterborough with no problems, I always smear a trace of grease on the valve stem then nip the steel dust caps up with a 10 MM spanner to prevent theft of same. System is worth keeping, I recently had a major deflation on a M.Way under hard acceleration and was only alerted by the display on the dash, also warned me of a slow puncture before setting out on a dark morning.
  6. My 300 Sportcross had waterpump leak causing the header tank and radiator to empty but still never showed engine temp over normal !it used to take almost a gallon to top it up, the only way I knew was the heater got cooler.
  7. Hi, I last year fitted ebay discs and pads to my sportcross but they have already warped so I tried Lexus parts direct who turned out to be cheaper and free delivery, £150 inc VAT for 2 original front discs and pad set, well worth a try because we know they will last. Tony
  8. Wow 500 on 1 tank is by far the best I have heard of, well done, mine generally manages 400 between fills which pleases me. I so like the Sportcross I could not bear to part with it when I bought the GS450h so kept it and still prefer to drive it over the GS, it feels better quality and more traditional.BTW I never use premium fuel, just cruise control and shut down early for the corners / junctions to avoid heavy braking and black front wheels. Brilliant car and a warm welcome to the owner's club Regards Tony
  9. Yes switch the gas off and run it on petrol like the talented engineers designed it for, mine burnt the valves out twice in 12 months and cost me way more in repairs than I could haver have saved, that is why Lexus dont want to know !
  10. Hi and a warm welcome to LOC, I have covered 65K in my 450h and must say I am delighted with it, my average MPG by the display has never been below 33 with mixed driving but slightly higher when I have brimmed the tank and worked it out the old fashioned way.I adore the silence when in another motorway jam, it helps keep me calm but yes like any big motor they loose value badly and the boot is not brilliant. I previously ran diesels but never will again, I hate the peakiness of the power delivery and the mess involved in re fueling. Good luck with your decision Regards Tony
  11. Evening all does anybody know how far past the 10,000 mile service I can go whilst maintaing my warranty, the problem is the 450h is booked in for the valve recall job in 3 weeks by which time I thought she would be due the next service but I now look like being about 1,000 miles over, I guess there must be an allowance of 10% ? I do not dare to run without cover but do not wish another day off the road and all the hassle of another trip to the dealers. Thanks in advance Tony
  12. yes my 450h SE L radio recption is rubbish so I bought a Pure Highway DAB, fitted in centre armrest with a small aerial on front screen, no wires visable and what a result ! almost perfect recption of the full range of DAB stations and live cricket all over the south and midlands, best £100 I have spent for years ! I have found FM really poor for several years in all of the cars I have owned but I feel the GS is the worst.Shame with such a quality amp. Cheers Tony
  13. Glad you are sorted, when you stop to think how much is going on with these cars and how many computers are running the show there has to be the odd hitch, I notice the most reliable cars now are basic cats like Kia etc which have almost nothing to go wrong. Cheers Tony
  14. Whats with the cloverleaf? as a Alfa Romeo Spider owner made me smile.
  15. Not cool having to be recovered, I blew a tyre on the M54 recently and felt people were laughing at the flash #### on the hard shoulder and I am sure I suffer more aggresive driving from white van man and HGV drivers because the GS looks a million dollars, seldom happens in the Sportcross, anybody else noticed this or is it just me ?
  16. Thanks for your help chaps, took it off again and ludricated the unit, re assembled and am happy to say the warning light now goes off on startup, £2 welding charge at my local tractor workshop well spent.( his 1st Lexus repair!) Cheers Tony
  17. what is this about engine cooling ? I have had steering, rear brakes and notification for valve springs but nothing about cooling Tony
  18. Mine did exactly this one morning last summer, it appeared to only be running on petrol and because it was still moving and time was short for me I continued to drive, after a while the hybrid system did work again with the warning still up and then later that day all back to normal. I took it to Lexus Hatfield next day they declared and performed a software update required and then tried to charge me saying updates not covered by the warranty ! No chance, no cash changed hands and 40 000 miles later never seen any more problems. Will be interesting to know how you get on. Regards Tony
  19. Many thanks for your replies, best I get under it again and make sure the linkage can move and the connections are good, superb forum !!
  20. The bumper does not touch the wing, there is a gap as expected. From what I have seen, the paint peeled off a bit first revealing metal which got a bit of rust - is not the case that rust started under the paint coat first (i.e. typical "bubbles"). I'll check gaps again though... Will do. Where can I find the record this recall work has been actually carried out? There should be a certificate of recall work completed with the service history but if not details will be on the Lexus database
  21. Felt I wanted a summer car, SC too big an engine for a toy car, IS C doesnt really do it for me so off to Alfa Romeo for a Spider we went and I must say it is superb (while it runs! ) and full of character, make me smile to drive it I know it is a bit of a hairdresser's car in red with tan leather but so what and 3 Lexus on the drive too flash. Hope you all still speak to me Tony :winky:
  22. I had the very same problem found it dangling when being tracked...gotta be a design fault!!! otherwise never knew anything, had the bracket mended the same way (WELDED) ,plugged back in but unlike you ,no warning light..so ok there.. Try unplugging and replugging check wiring to plug might have broken when dangling if no joy there, you will get 15% to 20% off as a gold member!!!(just joined myself!!!) chaZ Thanks for that, wierd that no light shows when it is hanging off ! will try re connecting ,certain no damage has happened to wires.
  23. Hi All, recently became aware of a jangling noise from the rear of the Sportcross, no warning lamps on, looked around rear drive shafts and saw load sensor/ head lamp control bracket had broken leaving the unit flopping around.Lexus do not offer the bracket just the complete unit for £278 so I stripped it off and had the bracket MIG welded but now I have re assembled it the headlamp level warning lamp goes off when engine is started but then re lights and stays on after about 30 seconds, any suggestions how to cure this as I guess it would fail the MOT test. Thanks in advance and hope! Regards Tony
