  1. i had similar problem regarding wires and went outside with the wire. yes eventually it'll deteriorate but it'll be good for a long time and you get much faster access on wired. as above posts say 3 bars shouldn't interfere with speed, but may be somehting else interfering. I have an issue with my wireless, hence why i went wired that from March to October (i.e. when we tend to get sun) the wireless goes off and won't connect from about 11am to 5pm. router is out of the sun but close to the side of the house where the sun comes up. Convniced it is an environmental thing, tried everything to fix it, but still happens. Much easier to go wired if you can.
  2. The point about the credit company being equally liable is very true. I had a case with Ford 17 years ago when they utterly refused to admit there was a major problem after a catalogue of problems and were just happy to keep repairing under warranty untilthe 12 month warranty ran out and then i would have to pay for it. I had finance through Ford Credit and made sure i paid £8 over the magic 1/3rd of agreement value. This means they cannot reposess without your permission or a court order. After months of Ford Credit trying to mediate a settlement they were forced to take me to court as i refused to pay until i got what i originally expected, a car fault free. I dragged the case through court for over 2 years all the while in posession of the car. In the end i settled out of court when the car was 3 years old and they took it back and wrote off the debt. Result. I had only paid 1/3rd, much better than the depreciation you get even now. It cost me absolutely nothing in court fees as i was entitled to legal aid (although i think that is unlikely with today's rules). the last laugh was when they came to collect and they couldn't get it started and had to call for a tow truck to take it away. If you feel strongly enough about it, go for it. Now i'm going to get the IS300's geometry checked.
  3. easiest way is to try it and see. try signing up using your address not the credit card address. if the authorisation fails, then try again with credit card address.
  4. I'm just going to move to Scotland. They seem to care about the people more, especially since they sent all their idiot politicians to London (Downing Street in particular).
  5. Yep it really is ridiculous isn't it, and some call this a developed country......... It is wheels that is the main contributor to changing CO2 levels as far as optional spec is concerned, which is why I quoted above using the example of a 530 Sport, so it has the wider 18" wheels fitted. The rest of the spec doesn't really make much of a difference, hence why a base IS250 auto has the same emissions as an IS250 SE-L with all the toys......... As far as Mercedes is concerned, if you choose optional alloys, the CO2 emissions on your V5 is actually dependent on the wheels you choose, so you don't get away with it that way either (as an example, my dad's CLS has a higher CO2 emissions rating on the V5 because he has the 9.5" rear wheels)
  6. I don't think that is the case. I recall a thread somewhere from someone querying why when they went for the larger wheels their CO2 went up from the one that was quoted. The final spec of the car is what the CO2 is based on, so if it is heavier it will have a higher CO2 than a lighter car as it requires more power. Having said that i do accept the change in technology, my point was that these are artificially even lower due to lower specifications.
  7. in answer to the original post.... is the reason BMW and Mercedes have lower CO2 because they are based on the standard car which is has zero equipment level as standard and by the time you spec it up, the co2 level will increase similar to lexus which has equipment standard. It is however another negative for Lexus on advertising if this is the case, as more people are going to go straight to BMW etc dealers to buy what they believe is a lower co2 emitting car. Once these dealers hve them in their sights, are they going to walk out and look at another marque or buy a model with the spec that gets below the level they want. Totally agree with the ridiculous nature of it, especially when i checked that the GS300 has 230+ and the IS300 256 co2 levels, so my rare trips into London are going to get rarer.
  8. animals can make a bit of a mess. To all you deer hunters out there , question: . How do you pack a 140 pound deer into a BMW convertible? scroll down for the answer. You need SPEED!!!!! Try 190 kmh IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE SIGHT OF BLOOD, LOOK AWAY NOW.............
  9. my experience with the HD box is not to bother. I'm a year into it now and just cancelled it as i'm now onto the third box and was offered an extended gauarntee for £120, so I told sky to stuff their whole package as there is obviously a fault in their manufacture of these boxes.
  10. be careful with syncing. XP already offers ability to sync to an offline copy, but if you upgrade computer or make changes to the local side and the file is no longer there it will delete the copy on the shared drive. I've given up on syncing due to the many times when i have needed a copy and it has not been there. Backup is your best bet. I back mine up to a usb external hard drive which i plug in when i need it. That way if some toe rags steal your equipment, by having the hard drive elsewhere hopefully you will still have your backups to resgtore from.
  11. all bluetooth phones should do this. They may not connect straight away, it will depend on how often the bluetooth looks for a compatable device. I have the O2 blackberry 8700g and that does it no problem. Previous Nokias also did, not just with GS but any bluetooth device I had.
  12. There is another option instead of trackers for new / used dealer sold cars which my dealer put me onto when I bought the GS. Instead buy the GAP insurance. No it doesn't get your car back, but after some toe rag has had it, do you want it? At least you get the full invoice price for it. Obviously for you guys who have customised it isn't a good solution, but for buying from a dealer I thought it was a good value. Before I get comments of the dealer flogging unnecessary insurance, I was already taking the GAP, he put me off buying the tracker I was going to order, and so doing lost themselves some income and saved me some money. So I was happy, thanks John at Lexus Leicester.
  13. of course if it is not worth repairing could cancel the claim and leave it as is. That way it won't show as a write off. Could also see if the other guy will stump up the £100 in cash and avoid insurance going any further.
