  1. Where the hell is all this fuel suddenly going ? A multitude of garages here were sold out today and we're now a week in. Are we seeing the non panic buyers now heading out and where allowed, brimming their tanks like a ripple effect or if they can't brim the tank popping somewhere else to top up.  If people are changing their buying habits due to future worries then it may take some time to sort out I guess.

I find it slightly amusing to see thrusting, young bearded male professionals with their crisp shirts in their un-badged BM's and Audi whatevers pootling along at 50 - 55.

It's the first time I've ever used eco mode in my bimmer (forgive me father for I have sinned :wink3:).....I'll be back though.

Despite it being a very nice turbo 6 pot,  eco mode feels similar to normal mode in an RC / IS300h....bloody relaxing. It rarely gets above 1200 rpm and you just float around.

I'm not the young bearded thrusting type, more the complete opposite by the way but yes without doubt everyone is driving slower....apart from school run mums.  😈...who will always be flat out up your arse no matter what.

Why do half a job advertising the car ?

You get everything sorted first prior to posting such as photos, description etc. In order to do the advertisement in 1 go. This avoids price alterations on the advertisement and other issues.

The latest Lexus Relax warranty negates your justification of increasing the price for warranty reasons, the 60k service wouldn't cost you a lot as a dealer either, especially with how much the market devalues trade ins and sells at a massively marked up price.

If I was told an increase in 1k for these reasons, I'd of walked away, clearly not professional.

rather putting all the blame on Damien. If you undertake a route cause analysis, you'll come to the same conclusion as me, that if the car was advertised correctly in the first place, this wouldn't of occured.

Have a word with your advertising department.

This is why I don't trust, and detest car dealers. Too many business men, not enough car people.

To be fair Lexus main dealers rarely get everything sorted first off so I'd cut the guy some slack. Their first move is to slap £5k on the price they paid for it, no pic, no prep its like a magical mystery tour. I agree about the Lexus relax stuff ..that automatically comes with the service.

    It looks priced to sell.

  4. Wow. Being a part time cyclist I read some cycling specific forums. According to one this is wholly down to Brexit, panic buying is totally justified across the country and its the all the fault of those who voted in 2016 and the current Government. Dare to even question them and you have a cyber mob queuing up to beat the living daylights out of you. It's quite hilarious how a car hating fraternity (not all but many on there) are suddenly using a fossil fuel as a political lever when up until now it was a dirty word.

Politics aside I've found some social media posts from real living UK tanker drivers. Apparently its one of the better paid HGV jobs, with little staff turnover, few foreign workers and more importantly very few advertised vacancies.

Prior to Fridays mass panic deliveries were taking place as normal, on time as they have done for the last few months and years. A simple shortage at a small number of service stations and suddenly the system is broken due to the media and a reactionary public.

If this is the case (with few advertised tanker driver vacancies) then surely the Industry itself must shoulder some of the blame. I'm not absolving the current Govt of any blame, they really should have their fingers on the pulse and a contingency for panic buying across the sector.

  5. Tentative signs its easing. Last night on the way home I passed nine garages and all closed. Today there was availability quite close to home and no queues.

I'm not a Facebook user but you can still view posts. My town has a group and within a few minutes of reading someone stating there were no queues at Tesco, I was there like a ferret up a drainpipe simply because I have a long trip next week . No diesel however which appears to be 'a theme' across several forums.

  6. Our local rag reporting huge queues. I filled up yesterday and the front set of pumps were closed (Tesco). Just cycled by an Esso and BP station and both shut with no fuel signs up.

Press creating a mountain out of a molehill and a population who panic at a drop of a hat.

Excellent, but don't roll those dice too soon ...  just in case you're in that 0.4% and end up hospitalized or worse .............

Don't worry Malc I'm not rolling any dice :wink3:. There are still two Government travel 'reviews' before I even think about booking airport parking and we all know what a complete lottery they are. As a travel agent it must be a worrying time for you, my daughter lost her job with an airline and her boyfriend pilot is clinging onto his job. I'm mindful of the risks however but thanks for your concern. I think if we had any underlying health conditions (fortunately we don't), weren't double jabbed and there wasn't a requirement for everyone on the plane to have undergone a PCR test prior to departure then we might put it off, however its my full intention to be drinking a few G&T's watching a Caribbean sunset this time next month 🥂 ..if it doesn't happen so be it, it can wait.

  8. I was at my local Lexus dealer last week. The forecourt and rear car park that usually holds the stock was not quite empty but very sparse. They're actually selling German cars such is the desperation, however when I spoke with the main sales guy he said WBAC are hoovering everything up and they simply cannot compete with their trade in prices, hence lack of used Lexus stock.

I had to chuckle as three years back they basically refused my 15 plate IS as a part ex and told me to take it to WBAC !!...what goes around comes around as they say :wink3:

  9. It's probably a semi decent price with the current crazyness in the big scheme of things, however to put things into context 18 months ago I nearly purchased a 66 plate with 20k mileage for £29k from a main dealer. 12 months ago a 15 plate with 35k on the clock went for £26500 from Lexus Sidcup but sold quickly.

However that was then and this is now. It's fair to say that prices across the board in the used £20-40k range for anything 'desirable' are up 10 to 20% from what most might consider normal prices. It's not just F cars, M2 /M4's / C63 / C43 / F type have seen similar price increases.

Personally speaking I think it's highly irresponsible for foreign travel even tho the traveller has had both jabs and proven clear of C19. As Malc stated things won't be normal for a good few years yet.

Sorry but I disagree. I have more chance of catching covid popping into my local pub or getting the tube around London than visiting somewhere with substantially less cases than here.

Whilst they are all proclaiming air travel is safe, well, not sure I'd be Qing up to get into a metal canister with 500 others for some hours, to then be prised from the metal tube to join more Qs to then go mix with those in a foreign land with heaven knows what protection ........ AND THEN .......... do it all again to return home

Ah, I own a Lexus, I must surely be sane :yahoo:

    Malc

They reckon 0.4% of people returning to the UK from their hols test positive (and that includes unvaccinated passengers). In other words 99.6% don't have an issue. To me those odds appear quite favourable and certainly a risk I'm willing to take.

This thing isn't going away so we really should learn to live with it.

Why pay for it when you can get it for free. It'll probably be the same 72hr turn around. No brainer.

I believe you can't use the free NHS tests for travel (which I guess is what Phils on about when he references day 2 amber tests).

We're due to travel to St Lucia next month. As it stands we require a PCR test to enter (fit to fly) and an antigen and day 2 PCR test on return.

  12. Its the Bournemouth airshow so we've had all sorts flying over our house for the last few days. The Typhoon really spooks the dogs and rattles the windows.

It all came to a halt today when one of the 'wing walking' planes ditched into Poole Harbour. We were walking not far away but missed the drama.

Reference Lightnings, I grew up not far from RAF Gutersloh in Germany during the Cold War which at the time was home to a Lightning squadron, we were down there quite often.

With regards to Chirac... Civil servants in France are only allowed to drive, or be driven in French cars. They must be seen to lead by example and promote French brands. If you are a civil servant and are entitled to a company car, it has to be a Renault, Citroen or Peugeot. Up to a few years ago, such cars had to be white too... which is why there used to be so many white cars in France!

Taking the subject off on even more of a tangent, in Cuba civil servants and Indeed any Government state owned vehicle are legally obliged to stop and pick up pedestrians / folk on the roadside who need a lift in the same general direction. Naturally there's a reason in that few people can afford a car. This kind of filters down, even a couple of locals jumped on our minibus on an excursion, no questions asked and hopped off a few miles later.

And when was the last time VED changes were retrospectively applied? All the better reason to get an EV now!! You can keep on waiting for hydrogen infrastructure to develop, and keep on VED/fuel duty.

If I get in one 'now' the cost to change would far exceed a decade of VED, probably two decades.

By that time you'll be in your next EV getting hammered by the EV tax.

That's as maybe but it wouldn't attract me if I was in the market to buy 🤔

Many Lexus dealers do that. It's priced to sell as well but in this case I'd be looking to examine it personally and ensure any cosmetic stuff was sorted before collection. I can't see it hanging around too long.

BMW selling a Lexus... says it all 🤣

Hate to say it but our Lexus dealer has BMW and Merc on the forecourt and have done for about a year. I think they'll all so desperate for stock anything goes. Even our Merc dealer who would never dream of sticking non brand on the premises have a new 'section' with all sorts on it.

.............. having had all my cancer stuff and, touch wood, successful radiotherapy and surgery throughout this dreadful covid period, the several and various  MRI scans were without a doubt very very prompt, quick and available ....... as an NHS patient along with everyone else here with any form or fear of cancer ......... there was in my instance absolutely zero delay with the assorted MRI scans I had .........  NHS providing very well indeed for me at the Point of Need

Mine was back stuff Malc, trivial compared to your condition in the big scheme of things. Likewise I fully understand where the priorities should be and hope you are, or will be sorted.

Best wishes to both you and Piers.

When will we be able to do a 1000mile+ Scotland road ntrip in a hydrogen powered Lexus??

I've no idea as I'm not in any particular 'camp' when it comes to these things. When EV's with a decent range become affordable to the masses I might dip my toe in the water, likewise if Hydrogen takes off.

I have a 400 mile round trip this weekend. The worry and inconvenience of having to charge something a couple of times would ruin the trip for me , so for now I'm sticking with my trusty six pot.

Yet our 4.5 year old EV has just taken us the Highlands from the midlands with zero issues......Our EV will be half a decade old next year when I plan on doing a tour of Norway in it.

That's good going Mr Zoom. I presume the previous reliability issues you suffered are in the past?  A Norway road trip is on my agenda as well, it looks fantastic.

  20. I've no issue with Pagid, I've fitted them to numerous vehicles over the years but they don't tend to last as long as the OEM I find. (might not be a major issue with hybrid as stated)

Lexus parts direct are doing RX OEM front pads and discs for £191 (double check its your vehicle) and rear pads / disc set for £161 .. so £352 all in. If there isn't much in it I'd opt for original.
