  1. 6000 miles on the clock now on mine was watching the current mpg as best I could on the drive back, in cruise all the time, was frightening to see it only a fraction above 30 at 80mph in 6th gear
  2. I totally agree re the diesal over petrol argument (or lack of) - mine was not too bad when new, now done 6,000 miles from new and it appears to be getting worse. Is that possible??????
  3. Not sure if anyone can advise...... Last week had my first 'warning message' on the old trip computer, nothing serious, just informing me washer fluid needed filling up. Very very annoying how the damn message keeps coming back up (complete with beep) everytime I slowed down and got going again. Fair enough if it was just when you switched the car on but it was taking it to the extremes and was very distracting..... I tried everything to 'acknowledge' the message in an effort to switch the thing off until I could get it topped up but to no avail. Is the above standard or is there an option somewhere to limit the amount of times the warning comes up? By the way, car is 57 plate 220d SE standard (i.e. no MM) Thanks
  4. Just back from a weeks break up in Scotland, drove up and down from Bristol, about 550 miles each way Have to say, MPG is absolutely dire for a diesal - 37mpg on the way up, 35 on the way back down again I wasn't pushing the car either, driving nice and steady, mostly motorway and dual carriageways. 70-80mph, 6th gear where possible. Yes, had quite a full car, but still would expect far better results. around 450 miles to a tank is :tsktsk: IMHO, used to get 600+ on a 60 litre tank on my old 7 seater MPV and that was without even trying to drive carefully....... And I am told by dealer car had all the latest ECU work on it to improve MPG - not sure I now believe them........ I know it's been covered many times, just wanted to let my frustrations out!
  5. I would totally agree - the advice us 'newbies' get is top notch some great and really knowlegdable chaps (and girls) out there
  6. Have you actually tried pressing the starter button without the clutch pressed It puts the ignition on to what was ACC, and on mine the dials light up and spin round. I was having trouble in mine early on, then I put the seat forward a notch (seriously) and all was fine. I sure have tried pressing with no clutch in...... I'm fairly sure the light on the starter button is always green when I'm trying to start - will double check though to make sure I'm not being a complete and utter :tsktsk: though.......... cheers for the advice
  7. I'm just over 4 weeks in - also appear to be having a 'starting issue'...........press engine start button when green, dials whiz round, check comes up on trip but engine does not even attempt to start.....have to press start button again. Have always assumed I hadn't got the clutch depressed enough but surely dials wouldn't whiz round if this was the case? Any advice appreciated on this one....... mine too idles at high revs initially (probably first few minutes) - upto about 1300rpm, then drops back down to just below 900rpm Still love the car though!
  8. When I'm at a restaurant enjoying a meal, why is it that the waitress/waiter always asks "are you enjoying your meal" just as you've stuffed a huge forkful of food into your mouth???? Same with the dealer calling me to check if everything is okay... I don't want them to phone me, if there's a problem I'll phone you. Sorry, but that's not an issue IMHO. Fair enought comment if you look at it like that! Just felt it would have been a nice touch but never mind!
  9. Well, had my 57 plate 220D SE for 4 weeks now, thought I'd jot down my thoughts so far......apologies for boring anyone....... The dealership Hand over was great, very impressed. However, slightly disappointed that there was no follow up call a few days later to check everything was OK. Not sure if this should be expected but I just kinda thought it would, being Lexus and all that........4 weeks down the line still heard nothing from them..... The Car Superb is all I can say. Love it to bits and cannot wait to drive it every day. The build is great, no problems there, both inside and out, just looks the biz...... The leather seats (black) are just so comfy you want to drive for miles and miles and then keep on going. The stereo (standard not MM) is great as well, about the best I have heard as a standard fit Great colour (Mesa Red), glad I chose it over the windsor blue, love the way it kinda changes in different lights - when cleaned, it really is top notch. Worth putting the effort in and getting all the right polish / protecting products as recommended by Jamboo and others, makes cleaning afterwards a piece of cake and it comes up like showroom condition each time. Performance, IMHO, is top notch, I have no complaints at all, the way the power is there at an instant when you need it, especially at cruising speeds is well impressive.....yes, you have to work the old gears but that's what I love about the car....it is a car to be driven and nurtured to get the best out of it which I find a real pleasure Economy, not the best, but still early days, I'm sure it will get better as time goes by.....just done under 4,000 miles on the clock so far and getting high 30s per tank which is OK especially as I do not drive like a Sunday Afternoon Driver all of the time (sometimes I do, yes, just to enjoy the car.....). Problems? So far, nothing too major......... Had issue with Lexus fitted bluetooth kit - set to wrong langauge (American English) initially by Lexus and I spent a week shouting my head off at it trying to get it to understand me to no avail....Lexus (Bristol) had not got a clue and had actually booked it in to check it out.....luckily a member on this forum pointed me to the language setting, changed to plain old English, now works fine. Interestingly, had a PM off another member just had same kit fitted, same problem - you would have thought Lexus would realise we are English NOT American and do it for you.......... On above subject, I do find it annoying that I cannot have the car charger plugged into the glove box in centre without having to leave lid up.....keep hitting my elbow on raised lid, sure it will snap off soon........if the power point had been put lower down would make all the difference..... Did have an issue with the car 'popping out' of 3rd gear one day - only happened 3 times that day in quick succession, nothing since, so I am assuming I was riding the clutch or not engaging the gear properly. I will admit, I am absolutely paranoid about every noise, creak, rattle I hear, expecting the worst everytime from reading some of the horrors you guys have had to put up with but, touch wood, nothing too bad at the moment........ Yes, I have the odd creak of the dash after a few miles of driving.....quite a loud crack is how I'd describe it....first few times I was sure some great big stone had hit the front and I spent ages checking all the paint work.......not sure if I should get this looked at or not? To prove how paranoid I am.....last night driving home.....strange rattle all the way, got home all gloomy, thought the old gremlins had finally hit me.....wife asks where the cat's new collar was.....light bulb went on in my head....bloody cat collar had fallen down side of passenger seat, jangling all the way home......... Yes, the rear view mirror vibrates, not too bad, I can live with it, nothing too major there...if I want my bass booming, somethings going to end up vibrating....... So, overall, no major issues, a few (very) little gremlins but I can live with them........I'm touching all pieces of wood here as I type..... Verdict I am delighted, and that's an understatement, that I picked the Lexus over the BMW, Merc and Audi. It turns heads wherever you go, both old and young, and you really do feel you have 'made it' inside. Everyone who sees it, is a passenger or just a nosey passer by passes comment on how smart it is and quite a lot are BMW or Merc owners...... Yes, it's only 4 weeks down the line, but I still get huge joy going out to it each morning for the daily commute to work and there is no sign this exuberance is disappearing........ So, in short, I'M BLOOMING LOVING IT!!!!! Would recommend the car to anyone, especially the newer models which would appear on the surface to have had a lot of the initial issues ironed out.......
  10. Had my 220Dse for 4 weeks now, averaging high 30s mpg, mixture of town and motorway driving, at speed limits (or slightly over on Motorways..) Not 100% happy as used to 46+ in old car but sooner have the luxory Interesting (and should I be telling anyone this)......last week had to make a mad dash from Oxford back to Weston Super Mare due to major work issues.....took just over an hour on motorway all the way, so work out for yourselves, I was flying - averaged over 45mpg on way back! On the way up, driving 'normally', averaged 38.9mpg First time coming back I've really used that 6th gear - and more interesting, first time I have seen the dials go red......didn't even know it went from amber to red...... And no, I don't make a habit of being a naughty little boy driving recklessly.....had little choice that day.......
  11. Hi there - driving along this morning in 3rd gear and twice within a mile or so, gear stick 'popped out' of 3rd gear into neutral. Anyone had this problem before or heard of similar? Pretty sure the gear was engaged properly and I was not riding the clutch or similar Been OK since but was mainly on motorway in 5th - 3rd gear appears only one affected........ Cheers for any advice
  12. Mine only has 600 miles on the clock, just over a week old, averaging around 32mpg, looks like I am getting about 480 miles to a tank, mixture of town driving, queuing and motorway driving at around 75-80mph. Did get up to 42mpg on a full motorway drive the other day at around 75mph for 200 miles To be honest, am slightly disappointed, but from the various posts I have read, does appear that this improves over time which from past experience is pretty normal for oil burners - last car gradually improved over the 4 years I had it, eventually hitting around the 48mpg regularly on exactly same kind of trips have done so far in the Lexus Will be interesting to see how it goes over the next few weeks, got several long motorway trips of 200+ miles each way to do and then at end of October, driving up to top end of Scotland from Bristol, 550+ miles each way!
  13. I read the manual - always good I suppose, changed from American to English and guess what - it works fine!!!! Have now successfully added a contact first time, no problems at all. Had contacted Lexus Bristol and it was booked in for the 27th Sept to get it looked at - saves a trip anyway Thanks for the info - excellent forum feedback as normal
  14. Cheers for the above - how do you change to American to English?
  15. beginning to seriously think that I may have a faulty unit.... no matter what I try, I cannot get the damn thing to work properly and cannot believe it really is as bad as this normally Yesterday for example, took around 30 minutes trying to get my home number recognised to put into the contacts list. I finally got the whole number in (one digit at a time, painful), said the command to save (Store) and it thinks I've said 'zero three' screwing up the number altogether! Will not recognise 'Store' at all........also appears to have a completely random idea of what 'clear' means - sometimes clears the whole number, othertimes clears just the last spoken segment One plus point, sound quality is good for incoming calls! Will get in touch with Lexus Bristol to see what they have to say and let you all know

  17. Quick update, have managed to turn off the nice lady telling me it was paired up with the phone - after losing my rag somewhat at the 20th attempt to get my home number as a contact, I 'politely' told it what to do to which it replied 'prompts off' and it has now stopped So there you go, to turn her off, swear at her.....
  18. As requested, a picture of the lexus bluetooth option to give an idea of what it looks like / position - apologies over poor pic but appears it is the zoom that is playing up on the old camera, hopefully attached is sufficient anyway....... Must admit, not overly impressed with the kit - yes, it works, sound quality is fine etc but it has a few niggles:- 1) You start the car, get into your favourite tune and the young lady pipes up 'Phone 1 Connected', not a major problem but still a bit of a nuisance 2) The voice recognition is rubbish, either that or it is my accent which is pretty normal, not farmer giles or anything similar. For the life of me, I cannot get it to recognise number 8 - always repeats it as 2! It really does appear to have a mind of its own on what it decides you have said Haven't played with it too much yet to be honest but basics are:- 1) Can store up to 20 contacts (if you can get the damn numbers recognised), does not pick them up from your phone 2) Can dial a number from your contact list or directly by speaking number (again, can't get this to work as it gets the damn number wrong each time!) 3) Can do redial, last number dial etc All pretty standard stuff. Yes, I'm disappointed if I'm honest but still glad I had lexus fit rather than any other tom ***** or harry, they have done a professional job, no cables etc When I've had time to play with it more, sure I will get the hang of it, this is my first bluetooth kit, normally had the old hand cradle etc, so probably still learning!
  19. At last, some half decent piccies, just cleaned for first time (only 4 days old though!), applied one coat of Carlack68 AIO so far, plan to do next coat (as per Jamboos recommendations) tomorrow morning and P21s probably tomorrow night. I just love the colour, it really is inbelievable the way it looks one colour when sun in and then sparkles when the sun comes out, so glad I chose it, everyone who has seen it so far is well impressed! Looks stunning I reckon even after just the AIO stuff, really is worth the money. Would appreciate any comments on best cleaner for wheels, bit disappointed that they appear 'dull', not got the showroom sparkle, just cleaned with shampoo and water so far And yes, I know what the first 3 bits of the reg make before any comments......
  20. Sorry chaps (and girls), piccies will follow, went to take some last night and it would appear that my 2 little ones have been playing with my camera........all pictures are now blurred......how do I know it's them? Last picture is a close up of their 2 little faces........ And another point, some little :tsktsk: :tsktsk: has already pinched one of my dust caps....... On the bluetooth kit, would anyone be interest in me posting the instruction booklet?? Not very big but may give people an idea of what it can do......
  21. Would have to be careful of what we call it, could come out something like MeRC.......but then at least it would mean to us something of value rather than a piece of :tsktsk: ......
  22. will get piccies up as soon as I have cleaned and polished it with the cracking stuff Jamboo recommended!
  23. Just picked up my new IS220D SE, mesa red, black leather ABSOLUTELY SUPERB! Chuffed as anything with the whole car, looks stunning to say the least and drives like a dream. No rattles, rear mirror as steady as a rock, great pulling power, the works - yes, I know I've only had it an hour but I have been for a very long drive! Also, Lexus fitted bluetooth kit works excellent, easy to use, good sound quality. So glad I chose the Lexus over the alternatives....... Is it home time yet??????? :D
  24. Anoraky??? Definitely not, just sound and well received advice. Already placed my order for the cleaning stuff Many thanks again
