  1. Well, checked tyres on Tuesday evening, all out by about 1psi (35 front, 38 rear is what I went by as per manual) Had a 400 mile run yesterday, filled up tank prior - nearly all motorway, some stopping and starting in heavy traffic on return trip, average speed when clear about 75mph, end result 44.4mpg Better than I had been experiencing but have done exactly the same trip before and got nearer 46mpg - it was quite cold again yesterday morning I suppose.......
  2. Anyone who has seen my previous posts will know that I have always been almost happy with the MPG on my SE 220D HOWEVER.....in the last 2 weeks, I have seen the tank MPG drop to 36 - 37mpg which is a HUGE difference. Cannot put any pointers as to why - same driving style, same journeys etc etc Only differences of late have been:- 1) New Front Tyres (early december but drop doesn't appear to match this date, MPG was fine to start with on new tyres) 2) Cold weather - would the recent cold snap really make such a difference (we are talking almost 10mpg here) 3) I did fill up once at Morrisons; normally (and have reverted) to the local Total Garange The worrying thing is that this morning filled up and tried to drive as conservatively as possible to work - doing so previously would have seen 45mpg+....this morning 37mpg..... Car did have a service (40k) late November...as far as I am aware, nothing touched apart from the normal servicing....
  3. There must be fundamental issues with some of these cars. Mine is a 57 plate (Sept07), 40k on the clock now, had the relevant 'fixes' over the last year (5th Injector) and I get between 40 - 41mpg each and every tank, sometimes if a long motorway trip, can get it up to 45 - 47mpg. My average mpg is currently on 40.3mpg over 9,000 miles probably 65 - 70% motorway driving admitted but do do a fair bit of town driving, especially at weekends Admitted, mpg even I'm getting is pretty crap for a modern diesal but still way better than a high proportion of you unfortunate owners are seeing
  4. Not a major problem but just interested to know if anyone has any ideas on the following and whether I'm likely to be looking at major in-garage time..... For the last week or so, when car is idling, there is a strange noise coming from the passenger side of the engine. Appears to happen all of the time (i.e. not just at cold engine time) It is almost as though there is a 2nd engine in there ticking away and is definitely NOT the normal engine / diesal rattle (this can be heard as well) I'm no mechanic but I was wondering if it could be the water pump? Sounds a pump kind of sound to me anyway? Car is in for 40k service next week so will get them to check out anyway.....
  5. it is probably 75% motorway, 25% A/B roads to be honest, does amaze me sometimes though - I live north bristol and in the summer had a trip down to Bournemouth with is a pretty crap route, all A roads, through towns etc, managed 45mpg no problems
  6. I had all my recalls done a month or 2 ago. To be honest, I was not suffering as much as some have been, always in the low 40mpgs each and every tank Nowadays, am always between 45 and 46mpg per tank, even without thinking about driving style. On a good motorway run, I always stick cruise on at about 75mph and can guarantee 47 - 48mpg I may be in the minority over this, but I'm really happy with how things have turned out for my car........12 months on, 37,000 miles and still loving every minute of it
  7. and do not do what I did either and get some cheap ones of ebay - ended up with them welded on and only got them off several months later when I had the alloys replaced under warranty.......
  8. I have had very similar issues when mine has been in on a couple of occasions....fair enough I'm in a 220d but have seen exactly what you are seeing....the mpg is dire on the tank of fuel that was in when the car went in until I refuel (full or part) and then it is back to the levels I am used to. I've mentioned it on here before but I reckon they quite often do something with the ECU or similar that cocks up the internal calculations on mpg Of course, I may be barking completely up the wrong tree but it's my theory anyway!
  9. I had one repalced the other week due to some muppet who borrowed the car kerbing it in a big way - just over £500 including fitting and 4 wheel geometry check, if I remember right, the wheel itself was a tad over £300 so not cheap......
  10. same place as mine will be going so they will be experts by the time mine is in!
  11. Yeap, had the recall done nearly a month ago now and yes, only started happening since then.......sounds as though my situation is exactly like yours, it is only a brief hiccup but enough to make you panic!
  12. A couple of worrying things have started to appear with my car....... 1) Rattle from around steering column - not sure if this is part of the dreaded rattles or not as majority of posts cover centre console whereas my rattle is coming from around the stearing wheel somewhere, sounds like something is loose in there? 2) Have had this a few times now - coming off a motorway or dual carriageway after several miles using cruise control, when I pull away from the junction, car will start off OK but then kind of mis fire briefly before carrying on OK. Doesn't appear to happen at any other time apart from when I have been cruising for a while and then stop at a junction Also, not sure on warranty period - is it 6 years or 30,000 miles? Am fast approaching 30,000 so if it is this, suppose better get it in quick.......
  13. I got a letter from Lexus GB - about a week after I'd had the recall work done when the car was in the garage anyway! I only got the wine, no fuel for me......
  14. Harv, Firstly, real feel for you - sounds like you really have had a rough ride with your car. Excuse my question if you have already stated the answer somewhere - had a quick ganger through this post and others and couldn't find no mention of it.... The MPG you are seeing, is this just from the tank average on the onboard trip computer or do you actually manually calculate it yourself? The reason I ask is that I'm sure that there is a bug of sorts in the onboard trip computer.....I've seen mine on several occasions when it has been in for a service come out with 0MPG as the tank average and then it never goes above 30 - 33mpg for the rest of a tank, even if it covers 200 - 300 miles on my normal daily commute where I would get 42 - 45mpg easily. As soon as I fill her up again, everything appears to be reset correctly and I'm back up to the normal figures I expect to see. My thinking is that maybe, and yes its a long shot, there is some fault in the onboard calculation software and some of us just might be getting better MPG than we actually think. I'm sure this is just a shot un the dark and you have already covered it so like I say, please excuse me if this is the case. Personally, I love my 220D and I'm not driving it any differently to a normal car nowadays and get fairly decent MPG returns, not as good as I had hoped to be honest but it is bearable. To start off with, my MPG was dire, mid 30's if I was lucky. I'm not 100% sure what exactly happened, but it has improved dramatically to the levels I see each and ever tank now. I just do not get how there can be such a wide variance in what people are seeing in exactly the same cars. What would be the ultimate test would be for you to get hold of someones 220D who state they get 'good' returns and see what you get out of it on your normal daily travels for a while - would prove if it is all 220D or certain (and probably quite a lot) of batches of them. I've also said it before on here but I reckon it would be superb if we could get a 'system' printout of ECU settings etc and compare to see what, if any, differences there are between the same model cars - makes me wonder if all Lexus garages are actually doing all the updates we think they are...... Anyway, I really do hope you get some light at the end of your long tunnel in the near future, whether it be with lexus or a rival brand.
  15. I'd agree with Valley Boy - my recall was done today and car feels smoother, can't quite put my finger on it but there is definitely a difference My MPG wasn't too bad prior to the recall to be honest, low to mid 40mpg each and every tank so any improvement will be added benefit Also got the 2 bottles of wine which is a very nice touch
  16. Took my 57 plate in today for a repalcement wheel (long story but some *&$6rd kerbed it when borrowing it) and they kindly did the recall for me and gave me the 2 bottles on the back seat. To be fair, I can't fault the service I get at Lexus Bristol even though my car is a company car which sometimes leads to reduced service levels from past experience
  17. Good afternoon........ Wondered if anyone has any advice about roof bars and roof boxes for the IS220D at all? Thinking of investing in some for forthcoming camping trip but wanted to check if anyone has any experience of such things on the IS range. Particulary concerned about possibly marking the car, how they fit, whether should go for Lexus accessories or just get from Halfords (Thule).....or simply not bother at all!! Any advice appreciated - thanks
  18. Did you have corrosion on all four wheels in such a short time? Service Manager at Bristol said they were replacing the wheels with new this time rather than refurbished (as was the case on the 200's) so would replace individually any that showed signs of corrosion. I only have it on two of the OEM's at the moment, so he's suggested leaving it until nearer the end of their warranty period (end of November this year) as it looks as if Lexus have eventually agreed to finally do something to prevent a recurrence of this problem. yeap, bubbles on all 4 - bit of a :tsktsk: if Lexus are improving the alloys as you suggest, mine was in Bristol but they never mentioned it......mind you, still have over 2 years of warranty left (or is it 60k if sooner???)
  19. What was wrong with the alloys that they needed replacing under warranty? the normal bubbling from corrosion on all 4
  20. Word of warning on this subject, speaking from experience...... Had my originals stolen with days of having the car so I purchased some from ebay that were being sold as suitable for lexus vehicles. They fitted OK, looked the part but the :tsktsk: things welded themselves onto the valves and there was no way of getting them off without ripping the whole valve off Therefore, went best part of 6 months without being able to check my tyre pressures until 'luckily' I needed 4 new alloys under warranty Now have 4 rubber caps, do not look as good but a) they don't get nicked and B) they dont weld themselves on solid!
  21. There is definitely something not right with your 220D - I am 99.99% sure that if I did above journey in mine, I would get 46+mpg no problems at all When I first had mine, I was very disappointed in the MPG to say the least, getting similar to you, took it in and got the same brush off as it sounds like you did. I then started driving like a monk for a couple of weeks, saw a huge difference but got fed up and started driving 'normally' again and found that I was still getting low to mid 40's mpg each and every tank now. I'm not fussy on fuel either, normally Total or Morrisons for me and don't use any additives mixed in with it. I'm sure something WAS done to my car without anyone admitting to it and I reckon not all of our 220Ds are having all of the recommended Lexus fixes applied to them. I'm now on 22k in a 9 month old car so it has had 2 services and only Lexus Bristol would know what really went on in those services behind the scenes....... Yes, diesals do improve with age but normally it is a gradual process, you don't see sudden huge jumps like I have. I'm not knocking Lexus or the car itself here (I am one of the lucky ones and am now very happy) just wish they (Lexus) would get their act together and ensure all of your cars are fully up to date with the latest mods etc - shame we cannot get a printout of the ECU version etc and then we could compare notes............
  22. Mine was in last week for what sounds exactly the same problem - no visible signs of a leak and as you say, they told me the oil is caught in the undertray Not sure if the whole engine had to come out of mine, they did have it 2 full days which they explained as having to reseal something or other and then letting it set and when I got it back everything electronic had been reset (Radio, Trip Computer etc etc)
  23. can you feel the scratches with your finger nail ,if so they will need filling with touch up clear coat and wet sanding with 2ooo grit wet&dry paper then use a polish to bring the gloss back to your paint.there is a very good guide on the autopia site in the how to section. Can feel them for sure - very 'scared' of touching up / sanding myself in case I make a right pigs ear of it! Think it proves just how soft the top layer of paint must be on these cars...... Might try the Maguires stuff first to see if that gives a good enough cosmetic look, if that fails will seriously think about touching up properly As ever, thanks for the excellent advice from everyone
  24. Can anyone advise please? I have various scratches appearing on my car thanks to our :tsktsk: cat (or should that be ex cat) and also some kids playing around it, bloody annoying to say the least. Scratches are not right down to the undercoat but have gone through at least 1 layer of paint and are fairly noticeable. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to the best way to try and remove them, I have seen posts about touch up paint and cocktail sticks but reluctant to go this far. Thinking more of a specialist polish maybe? Thanks in advance
  25. I've got the original Toyos on mine still, 22k so far and still have 5 to 6mm on all 4 which I reckon is pretty impressive??
