  1. For what's its worth, my comment is that I absolutely adore my 220d SE, have had a few minor niggles, nothing major, always had excellent Lexus service, can't fault the experience BUT..........having driven a 250SE AUTO on loan whilst mine has been serviced, I'd swap mine ANY day for the petrol one - funds / allowances allowing, hopefully next company car will be a IS250 And I do 30,000+ miles a year so in theory an oil burner makes more sense but the type of driving I do I reckon you could get near enough the same MPG out of the petrol give or take a couple of mpg. Like you its just the tax (company car) I have to consider and do the sums. On the MPG front, I can get 40+ out of mine on a regular basis but you do have to drive it a certain way - if I let my wife loose in it, MPG is 25 if I'm lucky which is no better than you'd get out of a petrol (if not worse) Anyway, thats my comments - certainly do as the other well informed chaps suggest and try both out, you will be surprised at the difference!
  2. have had no problems at all with the car to be honest - was a complete bolt out of the blue. Only thing I've done differently of late is a few longer trips - 500miles+ with 250 mile journey at a time
  3. Knock me down with a feather - only a brand new ML320 Special Edition turned up!!! Very nice car indeed......... Well, knock me down with a feather too. An ML320!!!!. Lots of off roading potential there. might well just give it a go this evening.........will be the only time I ever get to drive a car that costs around the £40k mark
  4. well, got a call from Lexus this afternoon, not bad saying they only had the car mid-morning apparantly it is the cat, gaskets and some kind of pipes? Sounds major but they reckon it could even be ready tomorrow night if the parts arrive as they have already stripped it down...... Needless to say, I told them to take their time, no rush........
  5. Knock me down with a feather - only a brand new ML320 Special Edition turned up!!! Very nice car indeed.........
  6. Oh, forgot to mention, just had hire company on the phone......they are coming to pick me up shortly once they have collected my hire car from Mercedes Benz..... now is that a :D or is it going to be a :( ????
  7. Cheers Steve Now I have calmed down and cooled off, had a good look and appears fairly common plus it could be one of several things. Having now read the RAC report, it states 'Particulate Trap Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1 Ref to Lexus' Maybe the Cat???
  8. I know I've seen this on here before but cannot find it and am certainly not in the mood to look indepth so sorry for repeat post. Basically, driving along M11 this afternoon on a 250 mile trip home, all gong well for first 50 miles or so and all of a sudden feels like engine cut out and then I see the christmas tree lights and Check VSC on screen. Car obviously went into limp mode which is bloody well dangerous on a motorway with lorries screaming up the back of you - thought I could make a mile or 2 to the services but got to a hill and car virtually died its death. RAC attended in 30 minutes, knew straight away they couldn't fix nd then I had to wait over an hour for a flat bed to bring me all the way home - nearly 200 miles. Got the mandatory visit from the wannabee policemen (sorry, Highway Agency officers) - any reason you are stopped on the hard shoulder sir? Yes, I replied, I wanted to stretch my :tsktsk: legs........to be honest I was surprised that they didn't shut down lane one because my car was with 2 feet of the slow lane....... 9 :tsktsk: hours it has taken me to get home, most of which has been stuck in the breakdown trucks cab with no air con crawling along at 50 mph max. Therefore, not impressed at all! One good thing I suppose is I didn't realise I was still covered by Lexus breakdown even though car is nearly 2 years old? Much confusion has followed over who is dealing with car recovery and hire car arrangements - HSBC (Leased), RAC, Lexus Breakdown or even no one at all! Anyway, appears I am getting a hire car via someone tomorrow that will be, I quote, 'Lexus like' - probably a toyota avensis...... Anyway, rant over - Any ideas what exactly this error means and how long to fix????
  9. My is250 SEL Auto MM is over 3 years old. When I first got it, it was rattle free. Had to replace the windscreen after about a year and a rattle was added for free!! Lexus Hedge End resolved the problem at the next service so I was a happy bunny. Two months ago, another windscreen had to be put in and, hey ho, the courtesy rattle was thrown in... Service wasn't due for a while so I decided to apply some first aid. I had some stiff but flexible foam in the garage so, after some trial and error, manage to force a strip down between the console and the windscreen right in the centre in front of the speaker grill. It had to be tucked well down which also meant that it was not visible. No more rattle. Worth a try.... PS My last loan car was the diesel and I couldn't wait to get back to the super smooth automatic box that uses all the gears. From the opposite side I have the 220d SE, don't get me wrong, really like the car but after having a 250 SEL on loan during a 3 day warranty visit, what I would do to swap! Seriously looking at the sums at the moment - mine is a company car so car tax might be a problem but I reckon with the cheaper fuel and if you could get around 40mpg on a motorway run in a 250 (and motorways are my main form of travel), there would hardly be any difference in running costs - that's my dream anyway!
  10. had a call from Lexus Bristol yesterday - appears my 'new' alloys are now not in stock and will not be coming in until early May.......do they read this forum I wonder????????
  11. let's hope my latest set will be from the 'resolved' batch but I have my doubts seeing as it is in on Thursday of this week to have them replaced........ Also, anyone know where I stand on warranty with this set & how long warranty will be honoured on them seeing as I will be up to 60k on the car within 6 months........
  12. just back from 50k service.....getting another set of 4 alloys due to the corrosion again....... :winky:
  13. Question answered - booked in for a service today and asked question myself and no, my car not part of recall as 'it must have the modified parts already'
  14. anyone know if this recall is all variants & ages or is it specific to certain registrations? to date I have heard nothing but mine is a company lease car so it normally takes an extra couple of months for any paperwork to wing its way to my desk, including speeding tickets...... cheers
  15. Anyone got any pics of "bubbled" ones, have had a good look at mine and cant find anything but although it sounds daft want to know i am looking in the right nooks and crannys on the wheels, is it blatantly obvious or is it one of those things you really need to look for? i have found that the corrosion starts at the back of the spokes and creeps around to the front. just to be different, mine corrode all over the place, side of spokes, front of spokes, rims, will try and get some pics later uploaded......
  16. i have certainly never had any issues and haven't heard of anyone either Mind you, it is only really me who drives my IS so don't suppose the motors ever get used!
  17. cracking, shouldn't complain really I suppose......
  18. Know it's been covered before but looks like my 2nd lot of alloys will be needing to be replaced Had the originals replaced at 30,000 service (about 8 months ago I think), now new ones are corroding and bubbling at alarming rate, far worse than original set in fact Coming up for 50,000 service so am assuming Lexus will replace these still under warranty???? Must be costing them an absolute fortune........
  19. just add my feedback for what it is worth...... have driven nearly 700 miles in the last 2 days. 1st tank full - got my first ever 600 mile trip on a tank, average 47.5mpg, that included some town and motorway driving in heavy traffic 2nd tank - 120miles, 48.1mpg, mainly motorway both above I wasn't particularly driving like an old woman, around 75mph on motorways in 6th gear and a fair amount of acceleration when muppets try and be clever when you are on cruise control about my best ever trip above, so I, for 1, cannot complain at the moment......
  20. thanks for the tips / advice, appreciated must admit, when the beeper does go off I have tended to be going sideways amongst other things Will try the 2nd gear trick tomorrow as by the looks, there's going to be plenty more of that white stuff in the morning.... cheers
  21. Probably a stupid question, and yes, I'm extremely lazy in not going out in the cold to get the manual to investigate..... What is the high pitched beeping I have noticed of late in the icy conditions all about? The TC light is flashing and sometimes this beeping starts as well - not all the time I hasten to add As above, probably a stupid question but just interested to know Thanks ps. new IS still a nightmare to drive in the snow! Good fun though but plenty of spare kecks recommended.......
  22. There is a 56 plate IS for sale near me at a local garage, tad under £16995...........not sure if 220d or 250, SE spec as looks exactly like mine (same colour, wheels etc), so on that basis, they are looking for a very high profit return.......
  23. Matt - any ideas on what reg dates these recalls will impact on - I have a 57 plate (Sept 07 reg) Cheers
  24. i had the same problem in my 220d after having a 250 for a few days........kept forgotting to take the handbrake off........ seriously, if it is such a noticeable difference, I'd get it back to the dealership as soon as, assume it is still in warranty?
  25. I am probably biased but I just love the Messa Red - looks the dogs bits when nice and clean, cannot beat it and attracts loads of comments. However, as people have said, you see every tiny scratch and it gets very dirty extremely quickly Have seen a few white IS's of late and must admit, they do look very nice indeed - would be tempted if I have another one in a couple of years time.......
